St John's Church, Poxwell

Poxwell (; sometimes written Pokeswell) is a hamlet and civil parish in the county of Dorset in southwest England. It is located 6 miles (9.7 km) east of Weymouth. The current population of the parish is around 50.

Osmington Mills is a coastal hamlet in the English county of Dorset. It lies within the civil parish of Osmington 5 miles (8.0 km) northeast of Weymouth.

West Ringstead is a deserted medieval village located on the coast in Dorset, southern England. The village lies on the Jurassic Coast and is located west of the modern village of Ringstead. This medieval village with a church is located in a field to the west of the current Ringstead settlement. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book. It was most likely abandoned after the arrival of the Black Death at Weymouth in 1348. All that can be seen now are variations in the ground level. The site is listed on the National Heritage List for England as a Scheduled Monument (no. 1019393), listed on 15 January 1960.What remains of the village church now forms part of Glebe Cottage, immediately north of the main village site. It has walls consisting of local rubble and the roof covered with modern tiles. Only the chancel and its arch survive from the original medieval church building. The village site is in the parish of Osmington. There was a separate parish of Ringstead until at least the late 15th century. There are four different Ringsteads listed in the Domesday Book, each apparently a separate settlement. One was later given the name "West Ringstead". Another, later known as "Up Ringstead", may have been at the site of the present Upton House to the east above Ringstead Bay towards White Nothe. The location of "Middle Ringstead" is not known. The name of "East Ringstead" survived as a field name on an 1829 Tithe Map in the east of the parish. The location of West Ringstead is just inland from the South West Coast Path. To the east are Ringstead Bay and the headland of White Nothe. To the west are Bran Point and the village of Osmington Mills.

Bran Point is a small headland on the Dorset coast in southern England, about halfway between the small villages of Ringstead to the east and Osmington Mills to the west. There is a picturesque cliff-top path between the two villages via Bran Point. The name derives from the brown colouring of the rock forming the cliffs of the headland, caused in part by residual oil deposits. The geology of the area is particularly interesting. The coastline in the area is formed from rocks and shingle with exposed cliffs behind. The Middle White Oolite of the Osmington Oolite more visible to the west has descended to beach level here. At the middle of the cliff, there is nodular rubble consisting of calcitized sponge spicules. Higher in the cliff are reddish brown beds containing Trigonia clavellata fossils.

Perry Ledge is a reef west of Ringstead in Dorset, England.The ledge consists of limestone dating from the Jurassic period and is exposed at low tide. It is located close to Bran Point.

Osmington is a village and civil parish within Dorset, England, situated on the Jurassic Coast 4 miles (6.4 km) north-east of Weymouth. In the 2011 census the parish—which includes the small settlements of Upton, Ringstead and Osmington Mills—had a population of 673.

St Osmund's Church is a Church of England parish church in Osmington, Dorset, England. It is a Grade II* listed building.

Broadmayne is a village in the English county of Dorset. It lies two miles south-east of the county town Dorchester. The A352 main road between Dorchester (from Sherborne) and Wareham passes through the village. In the 2001 Census the population of the village was 1,864, reducing to 1,204 at the 2011 Census. There is an electoral ward of the same name whose population at the above census was 1,870. Village facilities and services include a post office, a clinic (closed since 2014) and a public house (The Black Dog). There are two churches in the village, both of which were redesigned by Thomas Hardy, who was an architect before he became a novelist. The parish church of St Martin dates from the 13th century and has a notable south tower.

Black Head a headland on the south coast of England, to the east of Weymouth in Dorset. It lies on the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape known for its geology. Fossils can be found in the area.The headland faces out over to the Isle of Portland. It is so-called because of the black colouring of the cliffs at this point. To the west along the coast are Redcliff Point and Bowleaze Cove. To the east are the coastal village of Osmington Mills and beyond that Bran Point.

Mayne Preceptory was a medieval house of Knights Hospitaller in Dorset, England, which caused the name of the settlement to change from Domesday-era Maine (one of two manors named Maine in Cullifordtree Hundred) to Friar Mayne by the mid-14th century. It was located formerly in West Knighton parish, now in modern Broadmayne parish. The preceptory was established between 1290 and 1338. It declined in activity until 1533, where it began leasing its bailiwick to provide stipends for rectories, vicarages and the larger preceptories in other locations. Its lands were forfeited to the crown at the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the early 16th century and were eventually sold. The preceptory also owned a property at Kingston in Stinsford, given to the Hospitallers by Thomas del Boys, sometimes described as the 'camera' of Kingston (camera meaning in this context an estate with no community and farmed out to a tenant). In 1338 it comprised a house (messuagium) and garden, 68 acres of arable land, an acre and a half of meadow, pasture for 6 oxen, 8 cows and 100 sheep, and the church of Stinsford. The preceptory also owned further property at Waye (i.e., somewhere in Upwey or Broadwey).

RAF Ringstead is a former Royal Air Force radar station at Ringstead Bay, Dorset, England. It is notable for having served three separate functions: first as a Chain Home early-warning radar station during WWII and then, during the Cold War, as a Rotor station and then, finally, as a USAF Tropospheric scatter station. The first of these functions commenced in 1942; the last of the functions ceased in 1974. The structural remains were Grade II listed in 2020.
