Killcare Heights, New South Wales

Killcare is a south-eastern suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia, located on the Bouddi Peninsula. It is part of the Central Coast Council local government area. Prior to the arrival of European Settlement, Aboriginals from the coastal Guringai (Ku-ring-gai) tribe lived in and around Hardys Bay area. Evidence is to be found today in rock carvings and middens found in numerous locations around the area. After British settlement the area was established as a fishing and farming community. The name probably originated later as it was subdivided early last century as "killing one's cares". The Killcare area encompasses both the beach and bay side of the Bouddi Peninsula and is flanked by the Bouddi National Park. Killcare retains a small fishing village atmosphere centred on the Killcare Store. The village has an unusually broad variety of shops including yacht charters, art gallery, hairdresser, fashion boutique, restaurant and cafes and real estate agents. Killcare Marina has permanent moorings. The area has a strong community with many associations including the new Pretty Beach Community Pre-School and Pretty Beach Public School at neighbouring Pretty Beach. The neighbouring suburb Hardys Bay encompasses the south sector of the bay where the Community Church and the Hardys Bay RSL Club are located. The RSL hosts a series of local clubs including the Hardys Bay Hackers Golf Club and the Fridget Digits winter swimmers. Killcare is also home to the Killcare Rural Fire Service. The volunteer brigade services the surrounding suburbs and the Bouddi National Park, conducting controlled hazard reduction burning and a wide variety of other safety and hazard prevention activities. Killcare beach is a beautiful south facing beach that looks over to the northern beaches of Sydney. The beach is home to Killcare Surf Lifesaving Club, built in the 1930s, rebuilt in 1973, and then completely demolished and built again in 2009 as a modern state-of-the-art facility, and conducts beach patrols during weekends and public holidays in the summer season. The club has memberships for patrolling adults, children's nippers, youth rookies and associate supporting members. Putty Beach is the Northern end of the beach.

Hardys Bay is a south-eastern suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia on the Bouddi Peninsula. It is part of the Central Coast Council local government area.

Fletchers Glen is a small but mature temperate rainforest in Bouddi National Park in New South Wales, Australia. It provides habitat for two threatened plant species — the Magenta Lily Pilly (Syzygium paniculatum) and the Paperbark (Melaleuca biconvexa) as well as the only locally known population of Snowwood (Pararchidendron pruinosum). Fletchers Glen contains three waterfalls with a creek flowing into Brisbane Water. The reserve has a wide diversity of flora and fauna.

Pretty Beach is a south-eastern suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia on the Bouddi Peninsula. It is part of the Central Coast Council local government area. The beach itself does not face the sea directly but is part of Brisbane Water, making it a safe place for both children and the mooring of boats. Pretty Beach is surrounded by the Bouddi National Park. The main institution in the area is the Pretty Beach Public school, established in 1928, which services the greater Bouddi Peninsula community. The school had a major overhaul between 2007 and 2009 and now is entirely new. In 2010 a new community pre-school was opened immediately behind the school. In October 2006 a 'revamped' boat ramp with floating pontoon was opened to the public that allows small and mid-sized trailer-launched boats to access Brisbane Water and beyond. The population of the suburb recorded at the 2016 census was 352; an increase from the 249 recorded in 2006.

Hazard was an Australian sloop wrecked in 1809. Hazard was of unknown tonnage, probably built in Sydney in 1800. It was owned by Thorley & Griffiths and had been chartered to Lusk.In March 1809, three ships, Argument, Experiment, and Hazard left Pittwater, New South Wales, bound for Sydney with a cargo of wheat. A squall arose and Hazard was driven onto Box Head, 2 miles (3.2 km) north of Barrenjoey, New South Wales. Her master, Andrew Lusk, got into the ship's boat but was unable to persuade his single crew member, a boy, to join him. The boy was washed overboard and was dragged from the surf by some Aborigines. Lusk attempted to make it to shore but the boat capsized and Lusk drowned.

Box Head is a coastal locality, not a suburb, of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia, in the Central Coast Council local government area.It is within Bouddi National Park in close proximity to several beaches, including Iron Ladder Beach, Lobster Beach and Tallow Beach. The headland itself marks the northern entrance to Broken Bay from the Tasman Sea. Box Head refers to the large headland that viewed from the ocean resembles a box. This part of the coastland was first sighted by Europeans under James Cook, who named features of the area such as Cape Three Points and Broken Bay following his discovery of Botany Bay.

Wagstaffe is a south-eastern suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia on the Bouddi Peninsula. It is part of the Central Coast Council local government area. It was named after Captain Wagstaffe, one of the first settlers in the area. It has a general store, which is also the local post office. It is a thin slither of around 200 houses between the bay and the bush(Bouddi National Park). Historically it was also known as Wagstaffe Point. In aboriginal dialect the point is called Kourang Gourang. A ferry service operates between Wagstaffe and Palm Beach(via Ettalong). Travel time is 30 minutes.

PSS Maitland was a Scottish built iron paddlesteamer, used in Australia as a passenger vessel. On the sixth of May 1898 the Maitland was wrecked at Broken Bay in a storm. On board were 32 crew including Captain Richard James Skinner and 30 passengers. One of the survivors was a baby, Daisy Hammond, who lived to the age of 90, dying in 1988. Her ashes were scattered at the wreck site. Reports suggest between 21 and 29 people were killed. The "Maitland Gale" was responsible for the wreckage of other ships. Maitland Bay was named after the shipwreck.

Booker Bay is a suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales Australia south-east of Woy Woy on Brisbane Water, about 80 kilometres (50 mi) north of Sydney. It is part of the Central Coast Council local government area.

Brisbane Water is a wave-dominated barrier estuary located in the Central Coast region, north of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Brisbane Water has its origin at the confluence of the Narara and Coorumbine Creeks, to the south–east of Gosford and travels for approximately 18 kilometres (11 mi) in a southerly direction to its mouth at Broken Bay, about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) from the Tasman Sea, at Barrenjoey Head. A number of towns and suburbs surround the shores of Brisbane Water, including Blackwall, Booker Bay, Davistown, Empire Bay, Erina, Ettalong Beach, Gosford, Green Point, Hardys Bay, Kilcare, Kincumber, Koolewong, Phegans Bay, Point Frederick, Point Clare , Saratoga, Tascott, Wagstaffe, and Woy Woy. Contained within Brisbane Water is St Huberts Island, Rileys Island, Dunmar Island and Pelican Island; and adjoining the estuary is Brisbane Water National Park to the west and Bouddi National Park to the east. Forming part of the same tidal estuary system is a separate but connected basin, the Kincumber Broadwater, lying to the east of Davistown. The total catchment area of the river is approximately 165 square kilometres (64 sq mi). The land adjacent to the Brisbane Water was occupied for many thousands of years by Australian Aboriginal peoples, the Darkinjung and Kuringgai, who used the estuary and foreshore areas for cultural purposes.Brisbane Water was named in 1825 in honour of Sir Thomas Brisbane, a Governor of New South Wales, serving between 1820 and 1825.

Bouddi is a coastal south-eastern suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. It is in the Central Coast Council local government area. Bouddi is the Aboriginal word for the heart.The Bouddi area locally refers to the Bouddi Peninsula and the associated suburbs of Killcare, Killcare Heights, Hardys Bay, Pretty Beach, Wagstaffe and Macmasters Beach. All of these suburbs/villages fringe the wonderful Bouddi National Park that includes Maitland Bay.
