Thorpe Abbotts

The 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum, located in the original control tower and other remaining buildings of the RAF Thorpe Abbotts airfield east of Diss in Norfolk is named after the 100th Bomb Group and is dedicated to the American soldiers and members of the US 8th Air Force who fought with the Allies in Norfolk in World War II. The area also became known as the "Fields of Little America" due to the number of Americans stationed there. The entire former control tower is now museum space that highlights documents, photographs, uniforms and service equipment, plus a recreation of the original teleprinter room. The museum's collection includes a number of maps and other war-related artefacts from World War II's effects on the soldiers stationed there and how the group eventually came to be called the "Bloody Hundredth". The roof of the control tower is known as the glasshouse, from where the remaining airstrips are visible. It remains as it was when the airfield was operational with the addition of a model of the airbase in the 1940s.

Brockdish is a village and civil parish in the South Norfolk district of Norfolk, England. The village is situated on the River Waveney (south of which is Suffolk), and is about 3 miles (5 km) south-west of Harleston.

The River Dove is a river in the county of Suffolk. It is a tributary of the River Waveney starting near Bacton going through Eye to the Waveney.

Syleham is a small parish, next to the River Waveney in Suffolk, England, about six miles east of Diss. Its church, St Margaret, is one of 38 existing round-tower churches in Suffolk. The windmill was one of the casualties of the Great Storm of 1987.

Hoxne ( HOK-sən) is a village in the Mid Suffolk district of Suffolk, England, about five miles (8 km) east-southeast of Diss, Norfolk and 1⁄2 mile (800 m) south of the River Waveney. The parish is irregularly shaped, covering the villages of Hoxne, Cross Street and Heckfield Green, with a 'tongue' extending southwards to take in part of the former RAF Horham airfield. In geology, Hoxne gives its name to the Hoxnian Stage, a British regional subdivision of the Pleistocene Epoch.

St Edmund's Memorial, Hoxne is a memorial which claims to mark the spot where St Edmund was killed by the Vikings in the Suffolk village of Hoxne. The monument is a Grade II listed building located in a field 95m east of Abbey Hill. The monument refers to an oak tree which fell under its own weight in the mid nineteenth century.

Hoxne Priory was a Benedictine priory at Hoxne in Suffolk, England. It was founded as a religious house around the year 950, with a chapel at the supposed site of the martyrdom of Saint Edmund, king of East Anglia. The chapel was given in 1101 to Norwich Cathedral by Herbert de Losinga, and the priory became dependent on the cathedral. It was rebuilt by 1130 by Maurice of Windsor and his wife Edigia, being completed in 1226.At the time of the Dissolution of the Monasteries, William Castleton, who would be the first Dean of Norwich, disposed of the priory's property around 1538 to Sir Richard Gresham. The site of the priory is now occupied by the Abbey Farmhouse.

Hoxne manor is an estate in Hoxne, Suffolk, England. It was originally a manor house belonging to East Anglian bishops. However following the dissolution of the monasteries, the land was handed over to favourites at the court of Henry VIII.

RNAS Pulham (later RAF Pulham) was a Royal Navy Air Service (RNAS) airship station, near Pulham St Mary 18 mi (29 km) south of Norwich, UK. Though land was purchased by the Admiralty in 1912 the site was not operational until 1915. From 1918 to 1958, the unit was a Royal Air Force establishment. The land today is in private ownership, and little remains above ground. However, the Pennoyer Centre in Pulham St Mary holds an extensive archive of photographs and memorabilia relating to the Air Station.

Syleham Windmill was a Grade II listed post mill at Syleham, Suffolk, England which was built in 1730 at Wingfield and moved to Syleham in 1823. It was blown down on 16 October 1987. The remains of the mill survive today, comprising the roundhouse and trestle.

Chickering is a place in the civil parish of Hoxne, and the Mid Suffolk district of Suffolk, England. It is on the B118 Hoxne to Stradbroke road, and approximately 20 miles (30 km) north from the county town of Ipswich. Chickering is listed in the Domesday Book (1086) as 'Ciccheli (n) ga'/'Cikelinga'/'Citiringa'. The entry shows Chickering in the Bishop's Hundred of Suffolk, with 13 households, 4 freemen, 0.5 men's plough teams, a meadow of 2 acres (0.01 km2), and 20 pigs, with a tax revenue of 1.8 geld units. The freemen in 1066 were the lords of the manor, with their overlord being Edric of Laxfield. In 1086, after the Conquest, lordship was given to Walter son of Grip, under Robert Malet who was Tenant-in-chief to William the Conqueror.At Chickering is the seventeenth-century 'Chickering Hall' and farm; the hall is a Grade II listed building within Wingfield parish, with its farm partly extending into Hoxne. The water features at Chickering Hall have largely been filled in. In 1900 Chickering Hall and its farm, one of two farms, was trade directory listed in the parish of Hoxne. No other Chickering trades or occupations were listed at the time in Hoxne or Wingfield.

Hoxne Brick Pit is a 1.3-hectare (3.2-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Hoxne in Suffolk, England. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.In 1797, John Frere found flint hand axes, now known to date back 400,000 years, in a deposit twelve feet deep, and commented that "the situation in which these weapons were found may tempt us to refer them to a very remote period indeed; even beyond that of the present world". This is the earliest recognition that hand axes were made by early humans, and was over sixty years before the antiquity of humanity was widely appreciated. One of Frere's hand axes, which was probably a general cutting tool, is held in the British Museum. The site also provides the type deposits of the Hoxnian Stage, an interglacial between around 474,000 and 374,000 years ago, which is named after the site.The site is on private land with no public access. It has been filled in and there is a house on part of it.
