Winterslow Hut was a late 17th-century coaching inn on the London to Exeter stagecoach route at Winterslow, Wiltshire, England. Its isolated location on Salisbury Plain between Salisbury and Andover, with a spring close by, made it a useful resting place for drovers, and later for stage and mail coaches.The quiet surroundings and solitude, interrupted only by the arrival of the coaches, also drew the critic and essayist William Hazlitt to the inn in the early 19th century, where he regularly rented a room and produced some of his greatest writing, including Lectures on the English Comic Writers (1819) and the first volume of Table-Talk (1821). Winterslow Hut was brought to national attention when an escaped lioness attacked the horses of the London-bound Quicksilver mail coach as it drew up outside the inn during the night of 20 October 1816.During World War II, the inn was used as off-base officers' accommodation for Royal Air Force night fighter crews stationed at RAF Middle Wallop.

Porton Down is a science and defence technology campus in Wiltshire, England, just north-east of the village of Porton, near Salisbury. It is home to two British government facilities: a site of the Ministry of Defence's Defence Science and Technology Laboratory – known for over 100 years as one of the UK's most secretive and controversial military research facilities, occupying 7,000 acres (2,800 ha) – and a site of the UK Health Security Agency. Since 2018, part of the campus has housed Porton Science Park, which is owned and operated by Wiltshire Council and has private sector companies in the health, life science and defence and security sectors.

Winterslow is a civil parish with a population of around 2,000, about 6 miles (10 km) northeast of Salisbury in Wiltshire, England, and lying south of the A30 London Road. It is sited on the Roman road between Old Sarum and Winchester. Settlements in the parish are the villages of West Winterslow and Middle Winterslow, and the hamlets of East Winterslow and The Common.

Newton Tony (formerly Newton Toney) is a rural English village and civil parish in the county of Wiltshire, close to the border with Hampshire. Situated in the Bourne Valley, Newton Tony is about 9 miles (14 km) north-east of its post town, Salisbury. Wilbury House, a Grade I listed 17th-century mansion, stands in parkland in the north of the parish.

Ashley's Copse is the site of an Iron Age hillfort, about 8 miles (13 km) northeast of the city of Salisbury, England, straddling the border between the counties of Wiltshire and Hampshire. The site is a scheduled monument.Half the site is wooded, and here can be found the best preserved earthworks, but there is also visible evidence of some of the earthworks on the eastern spur of the hill. To the southeast of the fort lies a steep valley, forming a natural defence. The flanks to the north and east are also tightly contoured but the ground on the other aspects slopes less steeply. The fort site is not on the summit of the (unnamed) hill, but lies slightly to the east of the 166m AOD summit, at between 155m and 160m AOD.

Wilbury House or Wilbury Park is an 18th-century Neo-Palladian country house in the parish of Newton Tony, Wiltshire in South West England, about 8.7 miles (14 km) northeast of Salisbury. It is a Grade I listed building, and the surrounding park and garden are Grade II listed.The park is immediately north of Newton Toney village, on both banks of the River Bourne, and extends north beyond the house into Cholderton parish.

Firsdown is a civil parish in Wiltshire, England, 5 miles (8.0 km) northeast of Salisbury. Before the 1950s the area was sparsely populated downland within the parish of Winterbourne. By 1976 housing estates had been built on both sides of Firs Road, which links Winterslow with the A30. The civil parish of Firsdown was created in 1986.The parish includes the Figsbury Ring, a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest which contains prehistoric earthworks.

Idmiston Halt railway station served Porton Down military camp in Idmiston, Wiltshire, England, from 1943 to 1968 on the West of England line.

St John the Baptist's Church in the village of Allington, south-east of Amesbury in Wiltshire, England, is a redundant Anglican parish church which was rebuilt in 1851. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a Grade II listed building and has been in the care of the Friends of Friendless Churches since 2011.

Boscombe is a small village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Allington, Wiltshire, England. It lies about 3 miles (5 km) southeast of Amesbury on the banks of the River Bourne, on the A338 road which follows the Bourne on its way from Salisbury to Tidworth and beyond. In 1931 the parish had a population of 117. On 1 April 1934 the parish was abolished and merged with Allington, its upstream neighbour.

Allington is a village and civil parish in Wiltshire, England, about 3 miles (5 km) southeast of Amesbury and 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Salisbury. The parish includes the village of Boscombe; both villages are on the River Bourne and the A338 road. Most of the west boundary of the parish is also the county boundary with Hampshire.

Cholderton, or more properly West Cholderton, is a village and civil parish in the Bourne Valley of Wiltshire, England. The village is about 4 miles (6 km) east of the town of Amesbury. It is on the A338, about 1 mile (1.6 km) south of the A303 trunk road and 9 miles (14 km) northeast of Salisbury. East Cholderton is part of Amport parish, over the county border in Hampshire. Local attractions include Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm, a Rare Breeds Survival Trust approved farm park.
