Houlgate

Houlgate is the railway station for the town of Houlgate, Calvados department, Normandy, northwestern France. The station is built in Ouest architecture. It's located on the Côte Fleurie branchline from Trouville-Deauville and to Dives-Cabourg. The line from Mézidon opened in 1879 and extended to Houlgate in 1882. The line from Trouville-Deauville to Villers-sur-Mer and Houlgate opened two years later but the station was then called Beuzeval-Houlgate, followed by Houlgate-Beuzeval and finally Houlgate. A goods yard was in use until the mid-1990s as well as the station building (until 1996), the station is now only used as a stop by regional trains and tickets must be bought on-board trains. The trains between Trouville-Deauville and Dives-Cabourg only run in summer. The station building was renovated during Spring 2007. The station building was repainted and the main room reopened as a waiting room. The period clock on the station front was repaired.

The Dives (French pronunciation: [div]; also Dive) is a 105 km long river in the Pays d'Auge, Normandy, France. The river also flows through the area known as the Plaine d'Argentan. It flows into the English Channel in Cabourg. The source of the Dives is near Exmes, in the Orne department. The Dives flows generally north through the following departments and towns: Orne: Trun Calvados: Morteaux-Coulibœuf, Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives, Troarn, Dives-sur-Mer, Cabourg The Dives is officially navigable up to the bridge at Putot-en-Auge although height restrictions apply. No yachts or fishing boats navigate the Dives further than the Pont de la Dives linking Dives-sur-Mer to Cabourg, 1 km from the river's estuary on the English Channel. The last kilometre of the Dives is a large meander encircling a man-made harbour and the holiday resort of Port Guillaume (William's harbour). The river is prevented from reaching the English Channel by a kilometre long sand dune called Le cap Cabourg. The estuary of the Dives was the site of one of William the Conqueror's most decisive victories in the year 1057, over the combined armies of France and Anjou. Later, in 1066, Duke William assembled his army and fleet for the invasion of England at the same location as the earlier victory.

The Houlgate battery (also called the Battery de Tournebride) was a World War II German artillery battery constructed close to the French village of Houlgate in the Calvados department in the Lower Normandy region. Built into the top of a 300 ft (91 m) cliff, the bunker complex was created to protect the western bank of the mouth of the River Seine and was 10 mi (16 km) east of the Normandy landing beach Sword which it shelled. The former fire control post has been turned into an orientation table. The battery is 8 km west of the Mont Canisy battery.

The Port of Dives-sur-Mer, Port de Dives-sur-Mer, is the harbour of the Norman town of Dives-sur-Mer, France. It is from this harbour that William the Conqueror left for England to claim the throne.

Notre-Dame de Dives-Sur-Mer church is a Catholic building in the French commune of Dives-sur-Mer, in the Calvados department of the Normandy region. It was the site of a major pilgrimage that lasted until the Wars of Religion and the destruction of a devotional object, a Christ Saint-Sauveur, found by fishermen in the 11th century. The pilgrimage then resumed until the French Revolution. Although the current building still contains elements dating back to the 11th century, and has suffered severe damage over the centuries, it is in relatively good condition thanks to successive restoration campaigns, the most recent dates from the early 21st century. According to Arcisse de Caumont, it is "the most remarkable monument in Dives". It has been listed as a historic monument since 1888. A number of furniture items have also been listed. Few of the church's old stained-glass windows have survived, although at the end of the 20th century, a stained-glass panel from the 14th century was found and purchased by the commune with the help of the French government. The building has also preserved some remarkable marine graffiti on its walls, dating from the 15th to the early 20th centuries: the collection of graffiti, exceptional since there are over 400 of them, makes it possible to study both marine and river ships, as well as many aspects, including religious ones of the life of the community present in the commune for over more than five centuries.

Dives-sur-Mer (French pronunciation: [div syʁ mɛʁ] , literally Dives on Sea; Norman: Dives sus Mé) is a commune in the Calvados department in Normandy in northwestern France.

From 1892 to 1932, the station was served by the 600 mm (1 ft 11+5⁄8 in) narrow gauge railway of Chemins de fer du Calvados, linking it to Caen's Saint-Pierre station. On Wednesday 12 May 2010, the goods yard building caught fire. The fire was noticed early on and extinguished, saving the building.

Normandie-Cabourg-Pays d'Auge is the intercommunal structure centered on the town of Dives-sur-Mer. It is located in the Calvados Department in the region of Normandy, northwestern France. It was created in 2016 and its seat is Dives-sur-Mer. Its area is 276.40 square kilometers. As of 2021 its population was 31,397 people with 5,174 people living in Dives-sur-Mer proper.

Cabourg (French pronunciation: [kabuʁ] ; Norman: Cabouorg) is a commune in the Calvados department, region of Normandy, France. Cabourg is on the coast of the English Channel, at the mouth of the river Dives. The back country is a plain, favourable to the culture of cereal. The town sits on the Côte Fleurie (Flowery Coast) and its population increases by over 40,000 during the summer.

The canton of Cabourg is an administrative division of the Calvados department, northwestern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Cabourg.

Périers-en-Auge (French pronunciation: [peʁje ɑ̃.n‿oʒ] , literally Périers in Auge) is a commune in the Calvados department in the Normandy region in northwestern France.
