The Park railway in the Neckarauen (dt. Parkbahn in den Neckarauen) is a Park railway operated by the Club Dampfbahner Plochingen with 127 mm (5 inches) and 184 mm (7.25 inches) gauges, which was built in 1998 on the Neckarauen, the place where the Landesgartenschau Baden-Württemberg took place at that time. The track is 1.5 kilometers long in total, of which 1.2 kilometers are regularly used. The travel time is about 10 minutes. In contrast to most other park railways, which only have a simple track oval, the park railway in the Neckarauen region has several interlocking circuits. The operating association Dampfbahner Plochingen e.V., founded in 1980, owns eight steam locomotives, of which the 1:3 scale and the locomotive Plochingen, a replica of the locomotive of the "Heilbronn" type, regularly pull the visitor trains, which run every weekend from Easter Monday to October.

Fils (river)

The Fils is a 63-kilometre-long (39 mi) river in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, a right tributary of the Neckar. Its source is in the Swabian Alb hills near Wiesensteig. It flows through Geislingen (Steige) and Göppingen to join the Neckar east of Stuttgart, in Plochingen. Due to the contribution of the Fils, the Neckar is navigable from there.

Railway depot Plochingen

The Railway depot Plochingen (dt. Bahnbetriebswerk Plochingen) (short form: Bw Plochingen) is a depot of the DB Regio AG in Plochingen. The depot is located west of the railway station next to the railway tracks leading to Stuttgart and can be reached from the road via the access road to the Neckarharbor. It is responsible for the maintenance of the Trains of the S-Bahn Stuttgart. Furthermore, it also looks after multiple units of the Regionalverkehr Württemberg. The current depot with the Stuttgart S-Bahn was opened in 1978, after the roundhouse of the old Plochingen depot had been located at about the same place.

Altbach Power Station

Altbach Power Station is a coal-fired power plant owned and operated by EnBW at Altbach, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It has an output capacity of 1,036 MWe, 783MW being coal fired divided amongst two 420-30MW units and 253MW of gas fired capacity divided amongst four units ranging from 53-85MW. The power station is also connected to the Mittlerer Neckar district heating system.The first power plant on the Altbach site was built in 1899. The precursors of the current power plant went into service in 1950 (unit 1) and in 1956 and 1958 (units 2 and 3). Unit 1 was shut down in 1982 and demolished in 1985. Units 2 and 3 were shut down and demolished in 1993.Unit 1 was replaced by a new unit in 1985 and units 2 and 3 by a new unit in 1997. Both units have 250 metre tall chimneys.Unit 1 from 1985 received architectural landmark status in November 2021. Like the visitor center and the new Unit 2, it is the work of the German Architect Gerhard Feuser of the group Angerer & Feuser.The power station also features a forced draft cooling tower which is used to cool the remaining water not used in the heating system.

Wendlingen

Wendlingen is a town in the district of Esslingen in Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. It is situated on the Neckar and Lauter rivers, 27 km southeast of Stuttgart. The town grew in size, officially, on 1 April 1940, when three separate communities of Wendlingen, Unterboihingen and Bodelshofen merged. The town also is the headquarters of the tool company Festool.
