Holton Wood

Holton is a village and civil parish in South Oxfordshire about 5.5 miles (9 km) east of Oxford. The parish is bounded to the southeast by the River Thame, to the east and north by the Thame's tributary Holton Brook, to the south by London Road and to the west by field boundaries with the parishes of Forest Hill with Shotover and Stanton St John.

Wheatley Park School (WPS) is a co-educational state secondary school of approximately 1,150 pupils situated in Holton, Oxfordshire, England about 8 miles (13 km) east of Oxford. The school has been an academy since May 2014. The school is most notable for producing the United Kingdom's former Prime Minister, Theresa May and the alternative rock band Supergrass.

Waterperry Wood is a 137-hectare (340-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) east of Oxford in Oxfordshire. It is a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade I, and is owned and managed by the Forestry Commission.This wood has been designated an SSSI because it contains a diverse and important insect fauna, with many nationally uncommon and rare species. There are nineteen species of nationally uncommon hoverflies, including five which are listed in the British Red Data Book of Insects, many nationally uncommon beetles, thirty butterfly species and several rare moths.

Lyehill Quarry is a 2.8-hectare (6.9-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Oxford in Oxfordshire. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.This disused quarry exposes rocks dating to the Wheatley Limestone member of the Stanford Formation, approximately 160 million years ago during the Middle Jurassic. The deposits are limestones in an unstable reef substrate, and the only fossils are of oysters.The site is private land with no public access.

Forest Hill is a village in the civil parish of Forest Hill with Shotover, in the South Oxfordshire district, in Oxfordshire, England, about 4.5 miles (7 km) east of Oxford. The village which is about 330 feet (100 m) above sea level is on the northeastern brow of a ridge of hills. The highest point of the ridge is Red Hill, which rises to 440 feet (130 m) just south of the village. The 2011 Census recorded Forest Hill with Shotover's population as 856.

Stanton Great Wood is a 58.2-hectare (144-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north-east of Oxford in Oxfordshire.This coppice with standards wood is traditionally managed. The dominant trees are pedunculate oak, ash and hazel, and there is a rich flora and diverse insects. Moths include the buff footman, poplar lutestring, blotched emerald, maiden's blush and the nationally uncommon small black arches.The site is private land with no public access.

Bullingdon Rural District was a rural district in Oxfordshire, England from 1932 to 1974, covering an area to the south-east of the city of Oxford. The district was created on 1 April 1932 under a County Review Order, as a merger of Wheatley Urban District, Culham Rural District, Thame Rural District, part of Crowmarsh Rural District, part of Headington Rural District, and part of Henley Rural District. The district was named after the hundred of Bullingdon, which had covered part of the area. Bullingdon Rural District Council held its first meeting on 4 April 1932 at County Hall, Oxford, when George Parker, 7th Earl of Macclesfield, was appointed the council's first chairman. He had previously been the chairman of the Thame Rural District Council. For most of the district's existence its council was based in Oxford rather than in the district itself. In 1971 the council moved to offices on London Road in Wheatley.The district was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972, becoming part of South Oxfordshire district on 1 April 1974. The new council continued to use the former Bullingdon Rural District Council offices in Wheatley until new purpose-built offices were opened at Crowmarsh Gifford in 1981. The site of the old offices in Wheatley was later redeveloped for housing, with a road called Fairfax Gate now occupying the site.

The Church of St Mary the Virgin is a parish church in Wheatley, Oxfordshire, in the Church of England Diocese of Oxford. The church was designed by George Edmund Street and built in 1855–57 in the Gothic Revival style. It is listed at Grade II*.A past vicar of the church was the Reverend Hubert Brasier, father of former British Prime Minister Theresa May, who was married at the church.The churchyard contains three Commonwealth war graves, of a Wiltshire Regiment soldier of World War I, and a Royal Navy sailor and Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry soldier of World War II.

Wheatley is a village and civil parish in Oxfordshire, about 5 miles (8 km) east of Oxford. The parish includes the hamlet of Littleworth, which is immediately to the west of Wheatley village. The 2011 census recorded the parish population as 3,913.

Wheatley railway station was on the Wycombe Railway and served the village of Wheatley in Oxfordshire. It was opened in 1864 as part of an extension from Thame to Oxford. The steep road of Ladder Hill crossed the railway by a bridge, with the station on the east side of Ladder Hill. In January 1963 British Railways withdrew passenger services between Princes Risborough and Oxford, and closed all intermediate stations including Wheatley. The station and route were included in the 1963 Beeching Report, even though passenger services had already ended. Some goods services and diverted passenger trains continued along the line until the track was closed between Thame and Morris Cowley in 1968. Kelham Hall Drive and Kimber Close have been built on the site of Wheatley station. The former “Railway Hotel” public house in Wheatley had a bar decorated with many items of railway memorabilia, some of which related to the former railway through Wheatley station.

Shotover Park (also called Shotover House) is an 18th-century country house and park near Wheatley, Oxfordshire, England. The house, garden and parkland are Grade I-listed with English Heritage, and 18 additional structures on the property are also listed. Shotover House, its gardens, parkland and the wider estate (known as Shotover Estate) are privately owned by the Shotover Trust. Shotover Park which lies on the north and east slopes of Shotover hill should not be confused with the more recently named Shotover Country Park, which is a public park and nature reserve on the southwest slopes of Shotover hill managed by Oxford City Council.

Holly Wood is a 25.6-hectare (63-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north-east of Oxford in Oxfordshire.This ancient wood is a small remnant of the medieval Royal Forest of Shotover. It is coppice with standards on Oxford Clay with a varied invertebrate fauna. There are several uncommon butterfiles such as the black hairstreak and purple emperor.
