St Peter's Church, Twineham

Twineham is a village and civil parish in the Mid Sussex District of West Sussex, England. It is located eight kilometres (5 miles) to the west of Burgess Hill. The civil parish covers an area of 784 hectares (1,940 acres) In the 2001 census 271 people lived in 100 households, of whom 139 were economically active. The 2011 Census population was 306.The village centre has no pub, post office or shop. There is only the church and the school. The hamlet of Hickstead lies at the eastern end of the parish, on the A23 road, 2.7 mi (4.3 km) west of Burgess Hill.

The All England Jumping Course at Hickstead, known widely as Hickstead, is an equestrian centre in West Sussex, England, principally known for its showjumping. It hosts two international competitions, the Al Shira'aa British Jumping Derby Meeting and the Longines Royal International Horse Show. The course was the first permanent showground for equestrian sport in the country, opening in 1960. The first Hickstead Derby was held in 1961. Hickstead is best known as the home of British showjumping, though its major fixtures also feature other disciplines such as showing, carriage driving, scurry driving, side-saddle and arena eventing. Over the years, the venue has expanded its operations to include other equestrian sports like dressage and arena polo, as well as hosting functions and conferences all year round.It is located adjacent to the hamlet of Twineham, to the west of Burgess Hill and next to the main A23 road from London to Brighton.

Wineham is a hamlet mainly in the Shermanbury civil parish (and the same ecclesiastical parish) of the Horsham district of West Sussex, England. It is south of the A272 road, and approximately 2.5 miles (4 km) northeast of Henfield. Historically called Wyndham the settlement has one public house, the Royal Oak.At Wyndham, usually called Wineham in the 20th century perhaps by assimilation to neighbouring Twineham, the houses are strung out on both sides of the road but mostly on the west, those on the east being in Twineham parish. Wyndham hospital, founded in the 13th century, may have been near that road 0.25 miles (0.40 km) north of Frylands Lane, where the site was recorded in the 1870s, or the same stretch further north, where hospital field lies behind the Royal Oak; no trace of the building has been found. The hospital had a church and a graveyard, and was presumably the place in Wyndham where an inquisition was held in about 1300.Wyndham Pool, Wineham, is a small house of the late 16th century with a smoke bay into which a chimney was later built.

Sayers Common is a village in the Mid Sussex District of West Sussex, England. With Hurstpierpoint it forms one of the Mid Sussex parishes. It is located two miles (3.2 km) north-west of Hurstpierpoint. Situated until the 1990s on the main London to Brighton A23 road it has become a more popular residential village since being partially bypassed by the new A23 road. It has some very old cottages at its heart, and also contains the Priory of Our Lady, previously a residential retreat, now a specialist school for children with autism. The parish has an area of 2,029.88 square kilometres (501,590 acres) and a population of 6264 persons (2001 census). The village has become well known in recent years as the location for one of the south easts largest car boot sales open most Sundays from March to October. It is in the civil parish of Hurstpierpoint and Sayers Common.

Bolney is a village and civil parish in the Mid Sussex district of West Sussex, England. It lies 36 miles (58 km) south of London, 11 miles (18 km) north of Brighton, and 27 miles (43 km) east northeast of the county town of Chichester, near the junction of the A23 road with the A272 road. The parish has a land area of 1479.41 hectares (3654 acres). In the 2001 census there were 1209 people living in 455 households of whom 576 were economically active. At the 2011 Census the population had increased to 1,366. Nearby towns include Burgess Hill to the southeast and Haywards Heath to the east. The majority of the village sits between the A23 to the east, and the A272 to the south and consists of a main north/south road called The Street and towards the top of the village by Top Street, Cherry Lane and Ryecroft cutting east/west. Outside of this area the village extends south of the A272 down Bolney Chapel Road and to the East of the A23 in Crossways. The Bolney crossroads of the A23 and A272 has always been an accident black spot, and even with the building of the A23 flyover the area still has a high level of accidents and incidents on its stretch of the A23.

St Mary Magdalene's Church is an Anglican church in the village of Bolney in Mid Sussex, one of seven local government districts in the English county of West Sussex. The parish church, which is dedicated to Jesus' companion Mary Magdalene, serves a large rural parish centred on a village straddling the ancient London–Brighton road and apparently dates from about 1100, and an older origin has been suggested. Many structural additions have been made over the centuries—including a tower built solely using the labour of villagers—and at the entrance to the churchyard is a "magnificent" 20th-century lychgate made of local materials including Sussex Marble. The church is protected as a Grade I Listed building.

Albourne is a village and civil parish in the Mid Sussex district of West Sussex, England. It lies just off the A23 road three miles (4.8 km) east of Henfield. The parish has a land area of 772.9 hectares (1909 acres). In the 2001 census 600 people lived in 234 households, of whom 321 were economically active. The population at the 2011 Census was 644. The name comes from an alder-lined stream, which is likely to have been the Cutler's Brook.English inventor and father of the bicycle industry, James Starley, was born in Albourne in 1831. The village has a golf course, a riding school and a country club. During World War II a bomb fell in the village and did blast damage to the local school. The parish council appealed to raise £200 for immediate repairs to the school and £600 for future repairs. The bomb also damaged the Rectory of the Church and left it without electric lighting or a functioning bath.

Wykehurst Place (or Park) is a Gothic Revival mansion in Bolney, West Sussex, England, resembling more the châteaux of the Loire than an English manor house. It was designed in 1871 by architect Edward Middleton Barry for the banker of German extraction, Henry Huth, MP (1815–1878), a bibliophile and collector of paintings. At the time of construction (1871–74) it cost £35,000. Its turrets, arches, conical roofs, and many architectural devices give it the appearance of a fairytale mansion. The East lodge fronts the main London-Brighton road. The large black entrance gates are fashioned in wrought iron. Massive griffins with spread wings perch on either side of the gates. The entrance to the property leads down a pebble drive to a grassed patio surrounding the house, descending from a 280-foot terrace to a garden and lawn at the back. The mansion's exterior— "decaying at the time of writing" Nicholas Pevsner observed in 1965— and grounds have appeared in a number of films dating back to the late 1960s, including Oh! What a Lovely War, All the Colors of the Dark, Demons of the Mind, The Legend of Hell House, The Eagle Has Landed, and Holocaust 2000, among others.The Iranian writer and filmmaker Ebrahim Golestan has owned and lived in Wykehurst Place since 1984.
