The Carteret School District is a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade from Carteret, in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States.As of the 2021–22 school year, the district, comprised of five schools, had an enrollment of 3,882 students and 305.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.7:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "B", the second-lowest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.

Carteret is a borough in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 25,326, an increase of 2,482 (+10.9%) from the 2010 census count of 22,844, which in turn reflected an increase of 2,135 (+10.3%) from the 20,709 counted in the 2000 census.

Yeshiva Gedola and Mesivta of Carteret (Hebrew: ישיבה תפארת יהודה אריה) informally, "YGOC", also called Yeshiva Tiferes Yehuda Aryeh, is a yeshiva and non-profit organization located in Carteret in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States.

Prall's Island is an uninhabited island in the Arthur Kill between Staten Island, New York, and Linden, New Jersey, in the United States. The 89-acre (0.36 km2) island is one of the minor islands that are part of the borough of Staten Island in New York City. The island is named for a descendant or descendants of early Staten Island settler Arendt Jansen Prall Van Naarden (c. 1647–1725) (in Dutch, Praal), probably his grandson Abraham Prall (1706–1775), a local farmer. It was originally known as Dongan's Island, after New York Governor Thomas Dongan (1634–1715), who took the office in 1688. The name was later corrupted to Duncan's Island. Prall's Island did not take hold until the late 19th century. Around 1910, the water between Staten Island and the island was known as Prall's River but was eventually returned to Arthur Kill. The island is now owned by the City of New York and is maintained by New York City Department of Parks and Recreation as a bird sanctuary.

Carteret High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from Carteret in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, as the lone secondary school of the Carteret School District. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1929 and is accredited through January 2027.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,009 students and 80.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.5:1. There were 562 students (55.7% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 83 (8.2% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch. In 2019, 18% of students achieved proficiency in mathematics and 44% in reading. The graduation rate was 82%.Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered in AP Biology. The Project Acceleration Program allows students to receive college credit from Seton Hall University and over 200 other colleges and universities. Schedule permitting, students may also earn college credits by attending classes at Middlesex County College.

Piles Creek is a stream in Union County, New Jersey. It empties in the Arthur Kill tidal strait in Linden on the Chemical Coast between the mouth of Morses Creek and the mouth of the Rahway River just below the Linden Generating Station, a power plant. It is one of several tributaries of the Arthur Kill along with other rivers and streams including the Elizabeth River, Rahway River, Morses Creek, Fresh Kills, and, via Newark Bay, the Passaic River and the Hackensack River. Rutgers University ecology scientists have documented the bizarre transformations to Piles Creek marine species caused by contamination and toxicity. The creek was extended as part of wetlands mitigation project for the expansion of the New Jersey Turnpike. GAF Materials Corporation was once located along the creek. Public Service Enterprise Group (PSE&G) opened a solar farm on a brownfield site along the shore of the creek in 2014.

Chrome is an unincorporated community located within Carteret in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The neighborhood's main street was once a bustling shopping district. The Chemical Coast rail line passes through the area.

West Carteret is an unincorporated community located within Carteret in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. Joseph Medwick Park is a greenway of parkland along the banks the Rahway River.

Chelsea is a small neighborhood located on the West Shore of Staten Island in New York City. It is bordered on the north by South Avenue, on the east by the William T. Davis Wildlife Refuge, on the south by Meredith Avenue, and on the west by the Arthur Kill.The area was originally named Pralltown after a family that was granted land there in 1675. During the Revolutionary period it was called Peanutville due to the storage there of quantities of peanuts for the passengers using the ferries to travel between New York and New Brunswick. In the 1950s, there were plans for Consolidated Edison to build a massive electric plant on 100 acres (40 ha) of land that it owned in Chelsea.Chelsea is mostly open marsh and is relatively undeveloped, although there are some businesses and one-family houses. It borders on the Teleport and is the site of Staten Island's West Shore Plaza and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Meredith Avenue Bus Depot. Chelsea is served by the S46, S96, S62 and S92 local buses and the SIM32 express bus.

Linden Airport (IATA: LDJ, ICAO: KLDJ, FAA LID: LDJ) is a mile southeast of downtown Linden, in Union County, New Jersey. Also known as Linden Municipal Airport, it is next to U.S. Route 1&9. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 categorized it as a general aviation reliever airport.

Hawk Rise Sanctuary is a 95-acre (38 ha) ecological preserve and wetland complex in Linden, New Jersey, bordering the Rahway River. It is at the lower reaches of the Rahway River Parkway. It was created in 2012 on a former landfill through the combined efforts of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the city of Linden and the New Jersey Audubon Society. The natural area was once hidden behind a variety of industrial land uses. A boardwalk and scenic walking trail system winds through the Hawk Rise forest, continues along the edge of the former Linden Landfill, and leads to an overlook viewing of the Rahway River and adjacent marshes. The site contains a surprising diversity of habitats for its relatively small size and urban location. These include forested wetlands, vernal pools, grasslands, shrublands, salt marsh, mudflats, a large pond, and the tidal Rahway River. 163 bird species have been spotted there.In 2022, a solar farm opened on the site.

Isle of Meadows is a 100-acre (0.40 km2) uninhabited island in the New York City borough of Staten Island in the United States. It is located along the western side of Staten Island, where Fresh Kills empties into the Arthur Kill. The island is owned by the city of New York. It is now a nature preserve providing important meadow and salt marsh nesting habitat for herons, ibises, and egrets, and is not open to the public.
