Arcadia Vale is a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, Australia between the town centres of Toronto and Morisset on the western shore of Lake Macquarie. It had a population of 1,381 down from 1,518 in 2006.

Lake Macquarie (Awabakal: Awaba) is Australia's largest coastal lagoon. Located in the City of Lake Macquarie and Central Coast Council local government areas in the Hunter and Central Coast regions of New South Wales, Australia, it covers an area of 110 square kilometres (42.5 sq mi) and is connected to the Tasman Sea by a short channel. Most of the residents of the City of Lake Macquarie live near the shores of the lagoon. Lake Macquarie is twice as large as Sydney Harbour and is the largest coastal salt water lagoon in the Southern Hemisphere. It is slightly smaller than Port Stephens, which is about 43 kilometres (27 mi) to the northeast of the lagoon.

Wangi Power Station is a heritage-listed former coal-fired power station at Wangi Wangi, City of Lake Macquarie, New South Wales on Lake Macquarie. The power station operated between 1956 and 1986 and supplied electricity to New South Wales. It was once the largest in the state. The 12,000 square-metre building was listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area is a 761-hectare (1,880-acre) conservation area in New South Wales Australia, approximately 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Newcastle. It is made up of six separate land sections around the coastal saltwater Lake Macquarie, covering 16 kilometres (10 mi) of the lake's foreshore. Though most of the area was declared in 1996 one section, the Morisset area, was added in January 1999.Part of the 250 km Great North Walk passes through the conservation area. The conservation area, and adjacent Pulbah Island Nature Reserve, protect some of Lake Macquarie's little remaining natural bushland, and vegetation communities that are not present elsewhere in the state's park system.

The Rathmines is a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, Australia on the western shore of Lake Macquarie between the towns of Toronto and Morisset. The Aboriginal people, in this area, the Awabakal, were the first people of this land.Rathmines was first settled by Europeans at around 1840. It was named after the town of Rathmines in Ireland. Orchards, vineyards and cattle were the early industries. The first school opened in 1941. A RAAF base operated in Rathmines from 1939 to 1963. The artist Sir William Dobell was at one time responsible for the camouflage of the base. Rathmines is home to many sporting teams, most notably Westlakes Wildcats FC who play out of Rathmines Oval. Rathmines is home to Lake Macquarie's first disc golf course, located in park lands at Styles Point.

RAAF Base Rathmines is a heritage-listed former RAAF Second World War seaplane base and now used as community venues, sports venues and a visitor attraction at Dorrington Road, Rathmines, City of Lake Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia. It was in use as an RAAF base from 1939 to 1961. It is also known as Rathmines Park, former RAAF Seaplane Base, Flying Boat Base, Rathmines Aerodrome and Catalina Base. The property is owned by Australian Christadelphian Bible School, Disability Life Enrichment, Don Geddes Nursing Home and Lake Macquarie City Council. The remains of the former air base was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 25 November 2005.RAAF Base Rathmines was established in 1939 and was the RAAF's main flying boat base during the Second World War and the early 1950s. During the war, aircraft based at Rathmines conducted anti-submarine patrols along the Australian east coast and the base was home to the RAAF's main seaplane training units. In addition, detachments from squadrons based at Rathmines flew numerous offensive mine laying missions into Japanese-held territory (due to Rathmines' distance from the front line, these aircraft staged through bases in Northern Australia when travelling to and from their targets). Rathmines was also the RAAF Maritime Section's main training base.

Ebenezer Colliery was a coal mine located at Coal Point, New South Wales, Australia. Reverend Lancelot Edward Threlkeld began mining at the south west point of Coal Point near Toronto in 1840, after the failure of his aboriginal mission. The mine was worked by hand and the skips run on wooden rails. The coal was loaded into vessels from a large wooden jetty. Due to the shallow channel at Swansea the coal was taken to a coal loading and storage depot at the head of Lake Macquarie, known as Reid's Mistake, where it was loaded upon oceangoing vessels. Threlkeld's mine pre-dated the Australian Agricultural Company (AA Co) monopoly on coal mining, however Threlkeld found it difficult to attract miners, to compete against the AA Co monopoly and the Governor of New South Wales George Gipps refused to supply convicts. Threlkeld's estate was sold at auction to the mortgagee in 1844 to repay outstanding debts. The mine was worked further under lease by Henry R. Whittell and later by Ralph M. Robey, although it was often not worked. It was worked as South Hetton Colliery as late as 1906. The South Hetton Colliery was advertising coal for sale with delivery at Sydney, Newcastle "or at our own wharves at Lake Macquarie" as late as the end of April 1910.
