Lake Allison was a temporary lake in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, formed periodically by the Missoula Floods from 15,000 to 13,000 BC. The lake is the main cause of the rich and fertile soil that now characterizes the Willamette Valley.

Oregon's 5th congressional district stretches from the Southeast suburbs of Portland through the eastern half of the Willamette Valley and then reaches across the Cascades to take in Sisters and Bend. It includes a sliver of Multnomah County, the majority of Clackamas County, the rural eastern portion of Marion County, all of Linn County, a very small section of southwest Jefferson County, and the populated northwest portion of Deschutes County. It was significantly redrawn when Oregon gained a 6th congressional district after the 2020 census. The district is currently represented by Republican Lori Chavez-DeRemer, who was elected in 2022 to replace Kurt Schrader, who lost renomination to attorney Jamie McLeod-Skinner in the Democratic primary. Kurt Schrader's election marked the first time in the district's history that a new representative had the same party affiliation as the outgoing representative. It was one of 18 districts that would have voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election had they existed in their current configuration while being won or held by a Republican in 2022. With the exception of Chavez-DeRemer, every single representative from this district since its creation after the 1980 census has been divorced while in office.

Chemawa was an unincorporated community north of Salem, Oregon, in Marion County in the United States. Chemawa was also the name of a station on the Southern Pacific railroad, originally the Oregon Electric Railway. Chemawa Indian School was named after the Chemawa post office at this locale.

Chemawa Indian School is a Native American boarding school in Salem, Oregon, United States. Named after the Chemawa band of the Kalapuya people of the Willamette Valley, it opened on February 25, 1880 as an elementary school. Grades were added and dropped, and it became a fully accredited high school in 1927, when lower grades were dropped. In 2005, it continued to serve ninth through twelfth grades. It is sometimes referred to as Chemawa High School. It has primarily served students of tribes from the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. The second Indian boarding school to be established, Chemawa Indian School is the oldest continuously operating Native American boarding school in the United States. Its graduates number in the thousands. Former names for the school include Forest Grove Indian and Industrial Training School, United States Indian Training and Normal School, Salem Indian Industrial and Training School and Harrison Institute. At its peak of enrollment in 1926, it had 1,000 students. New buildings were constructed in the 1970s on a campus near the original one, where at one time 70 buildings stood, including barns and other buildings related to the agricultural programs.

Jane Goodall Environmental Middle School (JGEMS) is a public charter school serving grades six through eight that focuses on environmental science and community service. It is housed in the same building as the Oregon School for the Deaf in Salem, Oregon, and is named after English primatologist Jane Goodall. It is part of the Salem-Keizer School District.

Early College High School is a high school in Salem, Oregon, United States that allows high school students to pursue college education early, similar to dual enrollment programs. When the students begin their junior year, they enter a phase when they are allowed to take part-time college classes. By the time the student is in their senior year, they are expected to be a full-time college student. Early College High School is located on the campus of Chemeketa Community College, building 50.

Oregon School for the Deaf (OSD) is a state-funded school in Salem, Oregon, United States. It serves deaf and hard of hearing students from kindergarten through high school, and up to 18 years of age.

Keizer () is a city located in Marion County, Oregon, United States, along the 45th parallel. As of the 2020 United States Census, its population was 39,376, making it the 14th most populous city in Oregon. It lies in the Willamette Valley, and is part of the Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was named after pioneer Thomas Dove (T. D.) Keizur and his family, who arrived in the Wagon Train of 1843, and later filed donation land claims.

Chemeketa Community College is a public community college in Salem, Oregon, with a campus in McMinnville, and education centers in Dallas, Brooks, and Woodburn. In addition, the college has a Center for Business and Industry in downtown Salem that houses the Small Business Development Center. It operates classes and programs benefiting area businesses. Chemeketa serves nearly 30,000 students each year in a district that covers 2,600 square miles (6,700 km2) in Marion, Polk, most of Yamhill, and part of Linn counties.

The Oregon State Fair is the official state fair of the U.S. state of Oregon. It takes place every August–September at the 185-acre (0.75 km2) Oregon State Fairgrounds located in north Salem, the state capital, as it has almost every year since 1862. In 2006, responsibility for running the fair was delegated to the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department, and the division is now known as the Oregon State Fair & Exposition Center (OSFEC), which holds events on the fairgrounds year-round.

Lansing is a neighborhood in Salem, Oregon, United States, located in the northeast part of the city. The neighborhood is bordered on the north by Silverton Road, on the south by Market Street, on the east by Hawthorne Avenue, and on the west by Evergreen Avenue. The Lansing neighborhood contains two City of Salem Parks: East Gate Basin Park located at 3203 Hawthorne Avenue NE, and Livingston Park located at 2751 Hawthorne Avenue NE. The Lansing neighborhood contains two Salem-Keizer Public Schools: Washington Elementary School located at 3165 Lansing Avenue NE, and Waldo Middle School located at 2805 Lansing Avenue NE. Lansing Area Neighbors and Community Partners are currently holding Partnership Meetings on the second Thursday of each month from 10 to 11:00 am at La Casita/Little House, 3032 Sunnyview Road, NE. All who are interested in the livability of the Lansing Area are welcome to participate. The Lansing Neighborhood Association meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm at Waldo Middle School, 2805 Lansing Avenue NE. All are welcome. Anyone who lives, works, or owns property in the Lansing Neighborhood is a member.

The L. B. Day Amphitheatre (formerly the L. B. Day Comcast Amphitheatre) is an outdoor concert venue in Salem, Oregon, United States, within the Oregon State Fairgrounds. It was completed in 1987 with 9,000 seats, and named for L. B. Day, an Oregon State Senator and longtime supporter of the State Fair. In 1991, the venue was expanded to 14,000 seats to make it the largest arena of its type in Oregon at that time. The amphitheatre serves as the main stage when the State Fair is held in late August through Labor Day, and also hosts concerts at other times of the year. Bands and performers that have played at the venue include ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cinderella, Queensrÿche, Heart, Ted Nugent, Charley Pride, and Ricky Skaggs. In 2005, the Oregon State Fair chose not to book national acts on the amphitheatre stage. Since 2013 major national acts have returned to the L. B. Day Amphitheatre.
