East Worthing

Worthing East is an electoral division of West Sussex in the United Kingdom, and returns one member to sit on West Sussex County Council.

Davison High School is a girls' Church of England secondary school serving pupils aged 11 to 16 in Worthing, West Sussex, England. In its last inspection the school was judged by OFSTED as Good. The school accommodates around 1080 girls across five year groups. The original Davison School was a boys' school, opened on Chapel Road in 1812 and named after the Reverend William Davison, the first chaplain of St Paul's Church, Worthing. The school moved to its current site off Selborne Road in 1960. The culverted Teville Stream flows under the school's playing fields. The school is the home of the Davison Worthing Youth Concert Band which gives opportunities to any age or ability to join.

East Worthing railway station is one of five stations serving the town of Worthing in the county of West Sussex. (The other stations being Worthing, West Worthing, Durrington-on-Sea and Goring-by-Sea). It is 9 miles 55 chains (15.6 km) down the line from Brighton. The station is operated by Southern. The unstaffed station has ticket issuing facilities through one Shere FASTticket self-service ticket machine on the eastbound platform. A Permit to travel machine is on the westbound platform. The station has one glass and metal shelter on each platform. In the early 1990s a small wooden ticket office building on the eastbound platform was demolished. The platforms can only accommodate 4-coach trains. Until 2014 they were 2.25 m (7 ft 5 in) wide, preventing the use of access ramps for disabled passengers; but in January of that year work began to widen them to 3.75 m (12.3 ft).

St George's Church is an Anglican church in the East Worthing area of the borough of Worthing, one of seven local government districts in the English county of West Sussex. Built in 1867–68 to serve new residential development in the southeast of the town, the Decorated Gothic-style structure was extended later in the 19th century, and expanded its reach further by founding three mission halls elsewhere in Worthing. English Heritage has listed it at Grade C for its architectural and historical importance.

Beach House Park is a formal garden in Worthing, a town and local government district in West Sussex, England. Opened by Worthing Borough Council in 1924, the 9.57-acre (3.87 ha) park has formal lawns and flowerbeds, bowling greens of international standard, and a war memorial commemorating war pigeons. A café in the grounds was destroyed by fire in 2009.

Beach House in Worthing, England is a Regency beach-side villa, built in 1820 to designs by John Rebecca. It was originally known as Marino Mansion. It was built for a man named Robert Cary Elwes. .

The Brighton and Hove Built-up area or Brighton/Worthing/Littlehampton conurbation has a population of 474,485 (2011 census), making it England's 12th largest conurbation. This was an increase of around 3% from the 2001 population of 461,181. Named the Brighton/Worthing/Littlehampton conurbation by the Office for National Statistics for the 2001 census and Brighton and Hove Built-up area for the 2011 census, the area has also been known as Greater Brighton, although the Greater Brighton City Region that was created in 2014 from seven local authorities in Sussex covers a much larger area. The conurbation dominates West and East Sussex, with around one in three of Sussex's population living within its boundaries. It is also the second largest conurbation in the South East region of England and the second largest conurbation on the English Channel coast, in either England or France. In both of these cases the Brighton conurbation trails the Southampton and Portsmouth conurbation. The Brighton/Worthing/Littlehampton conurbation was the largest on the Channel before Portsmouth and Southampton's conurbations were combined for much official data analysis after the 2011 census. This conurbation is also the UK's most densely populated major conurbation outside London with 5,304 inhabitants per square kilometre (13,740/sq mi). This is due to its tight boundaries between the South Downs national park to the north, and the English Channel to the south together with less land devoted to domestic gardens in English seaside towns than in inland towns. It is a multi-centred conurbation and the eastern part, the city of Brighton and Hove, has approximately half of its population.

Sompting is a village and civil parish in the coastal Adur District of West Sussex, England between Lancing and Worthing. It is half grassland slopes and half developed plain at the foot of the South Downs National Park. Twentieth-century estates dovetail into those of slightly larger Lancing.

The Dome Cinema, Worthing, West Sussex, England, is a grade II* listed building owned by PDJ Cinemas Ltd. The Dome Cinema, which has three screens and a Projectionist's Bar is run by PDJ Cinemas, while Alfresco Services run two function rooms and the cafe at the front of the building. It has closed for refurbishment several times, most recently between December 2005 and July 2007. The name derives from the distinctive dome on top of a three-storey tower over the entrance. The Dome is an Edwardian building and one of the oldest working cinemas in England, and was opened in 1911 (Brighton's Duke of York's Picture House was opened in 1910). It was opened by Swiss impresario Carl Adolf Seebold. It was originally named The Kursaal — a German word translating as "cure hall". The Kursaal was used as a health centre and entertainment complex by visitors to the seaside town. At the time it contained the Coronation Hall, which was used for roller skating, exhibitions, concerts and events, and the Electric Theatre, the first cinema run for paying audiences in West Sussex. Following the outbreak of World War I leading residents of the town objected to the German name and after a competition with a prize of £1, the Cinema was renamed "The Dome".

The Thieves' Kitchen (formerly Vintner's Parrot and before that Thieves Kitchen) is a pub in the centre of the town and borough of Worthing, West Sussex. Established as a public house in the late 20th century, it occupies two early 19th-century listed buildings in the oldest part of the town: a Greek Revival-style former wine merchants premises, and a Neoclassical chapel built for Wesleyan Methodists in 1839. The main part of the pub is in the wine merchants building facing Warwick Street, while the old chapel (usually called Bedford Hall), facing Bedford Row, serves as its function room. Both buildings have been designated separately as Grade II Listed Buildings.
