Llangyndeyrn

Banc y Betws or Betws Castle, is a motte and scheduled ancient monument in Wales. It is located in Llangyndeyrn, in the Gwendraith Valley in Carmarthenshire, Wales. All that is visible of the structure nowadays is a mound capped with trees and the remains of the ditch that surrounded it.

Coedydd Capel Dyddgen is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Carmarthen & Dinefwr, Wales. Coedydd Capel Dyddgen is a mosaic of Ash-Hazel woodland, scrub and grassland. The site is important for bats, particularly Rhinolophus ferrumequinum (Greater Horseshoe bat) that use the large cave Ogof Capel Dyddgen and the adjoining woodland and pasture provide important feeding areas. Muscardinus avellanarius (Common dormouse) and several noteworthy invertebrates also inhabit the site.

Coed Gwempa is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Carmarthen & Dinefwr, Wales. It is managed by the Woodland Trust, who describe it as mixed native woodland and ancient trees with abundant floral species like bluebell, meadowsweet and dog violet. Dormice have also been observed.

Nantycaws or Nant-y-caws is a rural settlement in the community of Llangunnor, Carmarthenshire, Wales. 'Nant y caws' is Welsh for 'River of the cheese' and probably refers to the rich dairy farmland in the area. The Welsh word for 'milk' has been used in other place names to refer to fertile land. Though plausibly 'Nant y caws' could refer to a cloudy stream, or one with an unpleasant smell.Nantycaws lies largely on the old A48 road to Carmarthen (5 miles away) which was replaced in the 1980s with a dual carriageway, running close to the village. There is a petrol station and restaurant on the A48 and the Nant-y-caws Recycling Centre, located to the east of the village. The Philadelphia Independent Chapel lies on the Llangynnor Road (old A48) and dates from 1809.

Mynydd Llangyndeyrn is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in Carmarthen & Dinefwr, Wales, and a hill reaching 263 metres (863 feet), which is a Marilyn. Mynydd Llangyndeyrn and the SSSI are located west of Drefach and north of Pontyberem. The SSSI is approximately 1.3 miles (2.1 km) east-west and 0.3 miles (0.48 km) north-south, taking the approximate shape of a horns downwards shallow crescent.The SSSI citation for Mynydd Llangyndeyrn specifies that it is "notable as one of the larger upland semi-natural areas left in south-west Wales which, unlike most others, remains lightly grazed." The site features marshy grassland, wet heath, and dry heath, and hosts the marsh fritillary butterfly (Euphydryas aurinia).

Allt Penycoed Stream Section is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (or SSSI) in Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is protected by law and has been designated as an SSSI since April 1985 in an attempt to protect rare or unique features or species within it. The site has an area of 1.62 hectares and is managed by Natural Resources Wales. This site is designated due to its geological qualities. In Wales, geological sites range from quarries to rocky outcrops and massive sea-cliffs. 30% of SSSIs in Wales are notified for geological and geomorphological features. This stream section provides valuable information of dense turbidite/shale sequence, demonstrating the base of the member and good sections in the underlying Pibwr mudstones, which shows trilobite faunas representative of major ecological changes related to water depth and oxygenation around 500 million years ago. Trilobites are the fossilized remains of a new extinct group of sea-living arthropods, which have been recorded from this site and helped geologists understand conditions of the sea bed during the accumulation of sediment. The rich fossil assemblage has also enabled geologists to compare this section with rocks of a similar age all through South wales and the rest of the British Isles.

Ynys Uchaf is a section of floodplain of the River Gwendraeth that is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Carmarthen & Dinefwr, Wales.

Ponthenry railway station was opened in 1909 It continued to serve the inhabitants of the Pont-henri area and hinterland between 1909 and 1953; it was one of several basic stations opened on the Burry Port and Gwendraeth Valley Railway in Carmarthenshire, Wales.

Pont Henri (or Ponthenri) is a small rural village in Wales, located in the centre of the Gwendraeth Valley, halfway between the towns of Carmarthen and Llanelli. Most of the village comes under the Parliamentary constituency of Llanelli and the jurisdiction of Llanelli Rural Council. The rest of the village is represented by Carmarthen East and Dinefwr constituency and Llangendeirne Community Council. The electoral boundary in Pont-Henri follows the course of the Gwendraeth Fawr river. There are now no shops, although the village has one pub (The Baltic Inn) and a social club. Other facilities include a take-away, a community hall, a play area, a football pitch, a Baptist chapel and an industrial estate. Ponthenry railway station opened in 1909 and closed in 1953. Some of the village's famous residents include former Wales goalkeeper Ron Howells and former Wales Darts Captain Eric Burden. BBC Rugby correspondent Gareth Charles is also from Pont-Henri. Former Dragons professional Rugby Union player and Wales Under 20's international Nic Cudd is also from Ponthenri. In June 1989, a Westland WS-61 Sea King Helicopter encountered an issue and was forced to make an emergency landing on the village green, it then crashed onto the village green scattering debris in the vicinity and within 70 meters of the village school. One of the Rotor blades hit a nearby house, but nobody was injured in the incident.

For the river which flows into the River Loughor see Afon Gwili (Loughor)The River Gwili (Welsh: Afon Gwili) in Carmarthenshire, is a tributary of the River Towy, the longest river entirely in Wales. Its headwater is found east of Llanllawddog, in the Brechfa Forest. It runs west, through Llanpumsaint, to its confluence with the River Duad, just south of Cynwyl Elfed village. Here its course turns to the southeast, running through Bronwydd before joining the River Towy at Abergwili. The River Gwili gives its name to a number of settlements, as well as the Glangwili General Hospital. The Carmarthen Aberystwyth Line once followed the course of the river between Abergwili and Llanpumsaint and the dismantled railway line can still be seen right along the valley. In 1978 a section of the line was reopened in Bronwydd as a heritage railway and was given the name Gwili Railway. The River Gwili is popular with both anglers and canoeists.

Cwmffrwd is a village in Carmarthenshire, Wales, located around two miles (3.2 km) south of Carmarthen. Cwmffrwd is mainly a 20th-century settlement dominating the small river Nant Cwmffrwd, with some 19th-century elements. Its main access road, Heol Nantyglasdwr, connects the village to the A484 and leads directly into the main residential street, Maesglasnant. The stone bridge over the river Nant Pibwr north of Cwmffrwd, at the old highway leading to Carmarthen, may have been built on remains of Roman foundations.
