St John the Baptist's Church, Kirby Wiske is a Grade II* listed parish church in the Church of England: 212  in Kirby Wiske, North Yorkshire.

Kirby Wiske is an English village and civil parish in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire. It lies beside the River Wiske, about 4 miles (6.4 km) north-west of Thirsk.

The River Wiske is a tributary of the River Swale in Yorkshire, England. The Wiske gives its name to several villages it passes through. The name Wiske is derived from an Old English word wisca meaning a water meadow. It was once known as the Foulbroke, a name for which some writers commented that it was well deserved.The river was maintained by the River Wiske Internal Drainage Board, which was part of the Shires Group of IDBs. It is within the national character areas (NCAs) of the Vale of Mowbray and the Tees Lowlands.

Newsham with Breckenbrough is a civil parish in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire, England and lies on the A167. The population of the parish at the 2011 census was 128.The parish has two Grade II* listed buildings – the West Lodge to Thornton Stud and its gateway.Anne of Denmark with Prince Henry and Princess Elizabeth stayed at Breckenbrough Castle on 10 June 1603 as guests of Thomas Lascelles while on their way to London. The castle has been demolished and only earthworks remain. In 1618 there were two brick towers with a hall between, with two wings from the towers forming a courtyard.

Breckenbrough School is a private registered charitable trust school in Sandhutton, North Yorkshire, England. Breckenbrough School was founded in 1934 by Arthur Fitch, a Quaker psychiatrist, at Dunnow Hall, Slaidburn. It moved to Ledston Hall near Castleford in 1948, and has been at Breckenbrough Hall, Sandhutton, since 1958. It is one of seven Quaker schools in England. A 2013 Ofsted social care inspection report judged the school to be overall Grade 2 (good), and a report in 2021 stated that the school "requires improvement".

Sandhutton is a small village and civil parish in Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England. It lies about 3 miles (5 km) west of Thirsk on the A167. It has been referred to as Hutton, Hutton (Sand), and Sand Hutton. The name derives from Old English sand-hōh-tūn which translates as a sharply projecting piece of sandy ground with an enclosure, farmstead or village upon it.East of the village, on the road to Carlton Miniott, is the Sand Hutton Cross which is now a listed monument. The cross marked the point at which three parishes met and is designated due to the fact that it has survived despite intensive arable farming in the area.In 2017, a 45-acre (18 ha) solar farm was installed to the east of the village. The scheme involved the placing of 20,000 photovoltaic panels that would generate up to 5 MW and would have a life expectancy of 25 years.Sandhutton is the location of Breckenbrough School, an independent special school.

Royal Air Force Skipton-on-Swale or more simply RAF Skipton-on-Swale is a former Royal Air Force station operated by RAF Bomber Command during the Second World War. The station was located at Skipton-on-Swale 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Thirsk (near the present-day junction of the A61 and A167), North Yorkshire, England. The village of Sandhutton is located just to the east. RAF Skipton-on-Swale was a sub-station of RAF Leeming.

Maunby is a village and civil parish in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire, England, about six miles south of Northallerton and on the River Swale. The population is estimated at around 150.The parish church is St Michael & All Angels. In the churchyard is the grave of Victoria Cross-holder Alan Richard Hill-Walker who lived at Maunby Hall. The hall is still owned by the Hill-Walker family. There is also a Methodist church close to the village green. Village features include the village green, two churches, and the war memorial on the green.

Holme (or Holme on Swale) is a small village and civil parish in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England. It is located near Pickhill, Sinderby and Ainderby Quernhow, on the west bank of the River Swale. The population of the civil parish was estimated at 60 in 2014.Hambleton Ales is a small brewery which started life in Holme. It has now moved to Melmerby. Holme was historically a township in the ancient parish of Pickhill with Roxby in the North Riding of Yorkshire. At the time of the Domesday Book in 1086 it belonged to the Bishop of Durham as part of his manor of Hutton Conyers and Howgrave. The township formed a detached part of the wapentake of Allertonshire, and retained a detached part at Howgrave, 3 miles (5 km) west of the village, apparently only a single farm, into the 19th century. The township was for that reason referred to as Holme cum Howgrave. Holme became a separate civil parish in 1866.
