The Episcopal Burying Ground and Chapel (also known as the Old Episcopal Burying Ground (OEBG)) is located at 251 East Third Street, in Lexington, Kentucky. The land was purchased in 1832 by Christ Church as a burial ground for its parishioners. The cemetery became extremely important during the 1833 cholera epidemic, during which one-third of the congregation died. The burial ground also contains a small chapel that was built around 1867 and is thought to have been designed by notable Lexington architect John McMurtry. The small Carpenter Gothic chapel later became a sexton's cottage. In 1976, the burying ground and former chapel were added to the National Register of Historic Places.The only person of color buried in the OEBG, is Rev. London Ferrill, a former enslaved man who came to Kentucky in 1811 after the death of his enslaver. In 1821, he was ordained by the Elkhorn Baptist Association. Rev. Ferrell ministered to the black population of Lexington at the First African Church, now the First African Baptist Church. It was founded by Rev. Peter Durrett, also known as "Uncle Peter" and "Old Captain", an enslaved man of Rev. Joseph Craig, who came to Kentucky with the Baptist members of The Travelling Church from Upper Spotsylvania, Virginia in 1781. The cemetery is not regularly open to the public, but private tours can be given by appointment.

Kinkeadtown is a historically African American section of Lexington, Kentucky. It was established near the home of George Blackburn Kinkead (former Secretary of State of Kentucky), several years after the American Civil War. The land was subdivided by Kinkead in 1870 and sold exclusively to African Americans. In 1880 it was populated by about 20 families and grew to include over 300 residents. Cities had growing populations of African Americans during the era. Kinkead's home is now the Living Arts and Science Center. An archaeological report on the area was published in 1996.Many of the original homes in Kinkeadtown were destroyed in a redevelopment effort during the 1990s. Lilia Garrison (born 1908), a resident of the area, was interviewed for an oral history project. Mary Edna Berry, another resident, was also interviewed in 1989. Goodloetown was another area of Lexington developed for African Americans and named for the developer, a nephew of Cassius Clay.

The United States Post Office and Court House is a courthouse of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky located in Lexington, Kentucky. Built in 1934, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Sayre School is an independent, private, co-educational school in Lexington, Kentucky, US. The school enrolls 610 students from age two through twelfth grade. It has 68 full-time faculty members.

The Russell School (1895–2003) is a former public school located in the Northside neighborhood of Lexington, Kentucky. From 1895 until roughly the mid-1960s, the school was segregated and served African American students. It is a listed as a National Register of Historic Place since April 5, 2006, for its association with African American education in Lexington, Kentucky, between 1953 and 1956.

Transylvania University is a private university in Lexington, Kentucky, United States. It was founded in 1780 and is the oldest university in Kentucky. It offers 46 major programs, as well as dual-degree engineering programs, and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Its medical program has graduated 8,000 physicians since 1859.Transylvania's name, meaning "across the woods" in Latin, stems from the university's founding in the heavily forested region of western Virginia known as the Transylvania Colony, which existed briefly between 1775 and 1776 in south and western Kentucky.It is the alma mater of two U.S. vice presidents, two U.S. Supreme Court justices, 50 U.S. senators, 101 U.S. representatives, 36 U.S. governors, 34 U.S. ambassadors, and the Confederate president, making it a large producer of U.S. statesmen.

The Abraham Barton House in Lexington, Kentucky, is a 2+1⁄2-story Greek Revival structure dating from 1795. The house was constructed in multiple stages, and the original dwelling faced Second Street. Architect Gideon Shryock is credited both for the Greek Revival expansion and remodel in the early 1830s and for changing the front exposure to face North Upper Street. The House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

Goodlowtown is a historically African American section of Lexington, Kentucky. It was named for William Cassius Goodloe.It is located in a bottomland area.Horse jockey Isaac Burns Murphy was a resident.

Northside is a neighborhood in northern Lexington, Kentucky, United States. Its boundaries are Loudon Avenue to the north and east, Short Street, Midland Avenue, and Winchester Road to the south, and Newtown Pike to the west.

The Central Christian Church in Lexington, Kentucky, is a historic church at 205 E. Short Street, and an active congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The church was founded by Barton Stone and was the place where the Stone and Campbell movements united to form in 1832 as part of the Restoration Movement. The church was previously known as Hill Street Christian Church and Main Street Christian Church. The current building is part of the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

First African Baptist Church is a Baptist church at 264-272 E. Short Street in Lexington, Kentucky. The congregation was founded c. 1790 by Peter Durrett and his wife, slaves who came to Kentucky with their master, Rev. Joseph Craig, in 1781 with "The Travelling Church" of Baptists from Spotsylvania, Virginia. First African Baptist of Lexington is the oldest black Baptist church in Kentucky and the third oldest in the United States; it is the oldest black congregation west of the Allegheny Mountains. In 1850 under its second pastor, it had more than 1,800 members, the largest congregation of any in the state. The nineteenth-century Italianate church was constructed in 1856; by 1861 the congregation at this building numbered 2,223 members. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. Today the first African Baptist congregation worships at a newer church at 635 Price Road.

The Lexington Herald Building, also known as the Nunn Building, in Lexington, Kentucky, is a 4-story commercial structure designed by Leon K. Frankel of Frankel & Curtis and constructed in 1917 as headquarters of the Lexington Herald. F. Paul Anderson, dean of the College of Engineering at University of Kentucky, where Frankel was also a professor, consulted on the steel frame of the brick building. The building's ornamentation is minimal, and it includes a denticulated cornice above the fourth floor windows and a parapet. There is a gable in the parapet in the front center holds a decorative scroll displaying an "H" (for Herald). The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.John L. Nunn purchased the Lexington Herald in the 1930s, and the Lexington Herald Building is now more associated with Nunn than with the Herald. The building functioned as office space for various clients until 2006, when it was renovated and expanded as a condominium development.The building address had been 121 North Walnut Street, but Walnut was renamed Martin Luther King Boulevard, and the address is currently 121 N Martin Luther King Blvd.
