Hucknall, formerly Hucknall Torkard, is a market town in the Ashfield district of Nottinghamshire, England. It lies 7 miles north of Nottingham, 7 miles south-east of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, 9 miles from Mansfield and 10 miles south of Sutton-in-Ashfield. It is the second largest town in the Ashfield district after Sutton-in-Ashfield. Hucknall is 7 miles (11 km) north-west of Nottingham, on the west bank of the Leen Valley, on land which rises from the Trent Valley in the south and extends northwards to Kirkby-in-Ashfield. The Whyburn or Town Brook flows through the town centre. Farleys Brook marks its southern boundary. Due to the mass amount of housing and industrial estates along the southside of the town. Hucknall is contiguous with the wider City of Nottingham with the suburbs of Bulwell and Bestwood Village both to the south and southeast. The town's highest point is Long Hill, at 460 ft (140 m) above sea level, with views over the city and Trent Valley, which descends to 22–24 metres (72–79 ft) AOD, flowing just beyond most of the city centre.The town is surrounded by farmland or parkland. To the north-west lie Misk Hills and Annesley. To the north-east of the town are the villages of Linby and Papplewick, and beyond these two, Newstead Abbey and its grounds, once the residence of Lord Byron. To the west lies Eastwood, birthplace of D. H. Lawrence and an inspiration for many of his novels and short stories. To the east of the town is Bestwood Country Park. The contiguous settlements of Butler's Hill and Westville often appear as distinct entities on maps, but are generally seen as parts of Hucknall. They belong to its historic and present-day Church of England parish, although the town itself has no civil parish council. The identity is reinforced by being part of the post town and by being shared wards of Hucknall.

Hucknall Urban District

Hucknall was an urban district in Nottinghamshire, England, from 1894 to 1974. It was created under the Local Government Act 1894 based on the Hucknall Torkard urban sanitary district. It was centred on the town of Hucknall. In 1935 it gained parts of Linby and Papplewick from the Basford Rural District. Its neighbours were the county borough of Nottingham to the south and the Basford Rural District to the north, east and west. Since 1974 the town of Hucknall has formed part of the Ashfield district, with Linby and Papplewick becoming part of Gedling.

It is located on the Robin Hood railway line 5 miles (8 km) north of Nottingham and is also the northern terminus of the Nottingham Express Transit (NET) tram system. The station has park and ride facilities, with nearly 450 parking spaces for use by both tram and train passengers.TrentBarton Connect Red/Blue bus services connect passengers to the town centre and the western estates, stopping adjacent to the tramstop. TrentBarton 141 service connect passengers to the town centre, the eastern estate and the surrounding villages, stopping on the roadbridge above the station, or adjacent to the Tesco Extra.The Tesco Extra and the Ashgate Retail Park (Argos, Home Bargains and Kennelgate) are located close to the station.

Butler's Hill

Butler's Hill is a residential area near to the town centre of Hucknall. It is approximately seven miles north-west of Nottingham, England. The Butler's Hill tram stop is adjacent to Butler's Hill, and is on the Hucknall branch of the Nottingham Express Transit.The former Butler's Hill railway station, was situated on the, now closed, Great Northern Railway's Nottingham to Shirebrook line. The former Midland Railway route from Nottingham to Worksop also passed through Butler's Hill, but the Midland never had a station there. The alignment of the Midland line is now shared by the Robin Hood railway line and Nottingham Express Transit.The footbridge over the tram stop links Butler's Hill with Bestwood Village via the Mill Lakes, part of Bestwood Country Park. The nearby Broomhill park was the former site of Sherwood Zoo, which went bankrupt in 1976.

Butler's Hill railway station was a former station on the Great Northern Railway's Nottingham to Shirebrook line.The station should not be confused with the Butler's Hill tram stop of the Nottingham Express Transit (NET) system, which is some 250 metres (820 ft) to the south-east. The tram stop is situated on the alignment of the former Midland Railway route from Nottingham to Worksop, which is now shared between the NET and the Robin Hood railway line, but there was never a railway station at its location.

Linby railway station

Linby railway station was a station on what is now the Robin Hood Line. It was used predominantly to serve Linby Colliery. It shut in 1964. When the line was re-opened in the 1990s it was decided not to re-open Linby station, or the nearby Annesley railway station.

Linby is a small village and civil parish in Nottinghamshire, England. The nearest town is Hucknall which is immediately to the south-west. The village grew up around the mills on the River Leen, from which Linby's name is derived. Small streams known as Linby Docks run on both sides of the main street. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 232.
