Hucknall station

Hucknall Town railway station was a railway station on the Great Northern Railway's Nottingham to Shirebrook line. It served the market town of Hucknall in Nottinghamshire, England.

The Hucknall Sixth Form Centre is a coeducational sixth form centre located in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, England.It opened in September 2016 and is home to the collaborative sixth form of The National Academy, The Holgate Academy and Queen Elizabeth's Academy.

Hucknall was an urban district in Nottinghamshire, England, from 1894 to 1974. It was created under the Local Government Act 1894 based on the Hucknall Torkard urban sanitary district. It was centred on the town of Hucknall. In 1935 it gained parts of Linby and Papplewick from the Basford Rural District. Its neighbours were the county borough of Nottingham to the south and the Basford Rural District to the north, east and west. Since 1974 the town of Hucknall has formed part of the Ashfield district, with Linby and Papplewick becoming part of Gedling.

It lies 7 miles north of Nottingham, 7 miles south-east of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, 9 miles from Mansfield and 10 miles south of Sutton-in-Ashfield. It is the second largest town in the Ashfield district after Sutton-in-Ashfield. Hucknall is 7 miles (11 km) north-west of Nottingham, on the west bank of the Leen Valley, on land which rises from the Trent Valley in the south and extends northwards to Kirkby-in-Ashfield. The Whyburn or Town Brook flows through the town centre. Farleys Brook marks its southern boundary. Due to the mass amount of housing and industrial estates along the southside of the town. Hucknall is contiguous with the wider City of Nottingham with the suburbs of Bulwell and Bestwood Village both to the south and southeast. The town's highest point is Long Hill, at 460 ft (140 m) above sea level, with views over the city and Trent Valley, which descends to 22–24 metres (72–79 ft) AOD, flowing just beyond most of the city centre.The town is surrounded by farmland or parkland. To the north-west lie Misk Hills and Annesley. To the north-east of the town are the villages of Linby and Papplewick, and beyond these two, Newstead Abbey and its grounds, once the residence of Lord Byron. To the west lies Eastwood, birthplace of D. H. Lawrence and an inspiration for many of his novels and short stories. To the east of the town is Bestwood Country Park. The contiguous settlements of Butler's Hill and Westville often appear as distinct entities on maps, but are generally seen as parts of Hucknall. They belong to its historic and present-day Church of England parish, although the town itself has no civil parish council. The identity is reinforced by being part of the post town and by being shared wards of Hucknall.

Butler's Hill railway station was a former station on the Great Northern Railway's Nottingham to Shirebrook line.The station should not be confused with the Butler's Hill tram stop of the Nottingham Express Transit (NET) system, which is some 250 metres (820 ft) to the south-east. The tram stop is situated on the alignment of the former Midland Railway route from Nottingham to Worksop, which is now shared between the NET and the Robin Hood railway line, but there was never a railway station at its location.

The Butler's Hill tram stop is adjacent to Butler's Hill, and is on the Hucknall branch of the Nottingham Express Transit.The former Butler's Hill railway station, was situated on the, now closed, Great Northern Railway's Nottingham to Shirebrook line. The former Midland Railway route from Nottingham to Worksop also passed through Butler's Hill, but the Midland never had a station there. The alignment of the Midland line is now shared by the Robin Hood railway line and Nottingham Express Transit.The footbridge over the tram stop links Butler's Hill with Bestwood Village via the Mill Lakes, part of Bestwood Country Park. The nearby Broomhill park was the former site of Sherwood Zoo, which went bankrupt in 1976.

Butler's Hill is a tram stop on the Nottingham Express Transit network, serving the suburb of Butler's Hill, Ashfield in Nottinghamshire, England. The station is situated on the long single line section between Bulwell and Hucknall, which runs alongside the Robin Hood Line. Like all the other intermediate stops on this section, the stop has a passing loop with an island platform situated between the two tracks of the loop.With the opening of NET's phase two, Butler's Hill is now on NET line 1, which runs from Hucknall through the city centre to Beeston and Chilwell. Trams run at frequencies that vary between four and eight trams per hour, depending on the day and time of day.The tram stop should not be confused with the former Butler's Hill railway station, which was situated on the, now closed, Great Northern Railway's Nottingham to Shirebrook line, some 250 metres (820 ft) to the north-west of the tram stop. The Robin Hood line that passes alongside the stop was originally the former Midland Railway route from Nottingham to Worksop, but there has never been a railway station at the stop's location.

Hucknall Central railway station, originally known as Hucknall Town, was a station in Hucknall on the Great Central Railway's main line from Manchester to London.

The Whyburn, or Town Brook is the main watercourse flowing through the town of Hucknall in the English county of Nottinghamshire. It rises in two separate springs at the foot of the Misk Hills by Whyburn Farm, and flows east into the town of Hucknall, past Whyburn Lane to which it also gives its name. The brook once drove several mills in Hucknall, the most notable example being close to the junction of Baker Street and Annesley Road near the town centre. In the History of Hucknall Torkard it is suggested that a mill pond once existed close to the former village green (now the Market Place). The name of the stream is thought to be derived from a Celtic word 'Wy' meaning 'water'. The Whyburn has a total length of around 2.5 miles (4.0 km), and terminates in a confluence with the River Leen immediately upstream of Bestwood Village Mill Lakes. A school used to take the name of 'Whyburn'.
