The James H. Quillen College of Medicine is a medical school and a part of East Tennessee State University, which is located in Johnson City, Tennessee. It is one of two public medical schools in Tennessee, the other being the University of Tennessee College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. It was named for Congressman Jimmy Quillen, who led the fight to open a second public medical school in Tennessee. The school was originally named the ETSU Quillen-Dishner College of Medicine, but Dr. Paul Dishner's name was removed in 1989. In the 2011 edition of U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Graduate Schools," the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University is ranked sixth in the nation for excellence in rural medicine education. For several consecutive years, ETSU has been ranked within the top 10 schools in the country for rural medicine. Additionally, Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University was recognized in the 2011 edition of U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Graduate Schools" for ranking 20th in the nation for family medicine education. Quillen has also been recognized by the American Academy of Family Physicians as one of the top 10 schools in the nation for producing family physicians. ETSU was also ranked in the top 25% of medical schools for primary care education by U.S. News & World Report.A study published in the June 15, 2010 edition of Annals of Internal Medicine by a professor of health policy, Fitzhugh Mullan, ranked East Tennessee State University's James H. Quillen College of Medicine as the top school in the nation for producing primary care physicians and 12th among U.S. medical schools on a “social mission” scale.

East Tennessee State University (ETSU) is a public research university in Johnson City, Tennessee. It was historically part of the State University and Community College System of Tennessee under the Tennessee Board of Regents, but since 2016, the university has been transitioning to governance by a separate institutional Board of Trustees. As of May 2017, it is the fourth largest university in the state and has off-campus centers in nearby Kingsport, Elizabethton, and Sevierville. ETSU is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity." It hosts the James H. Quillen College of Medicine which is often ranked as one of the top schools in the United States for rural medicine and primary care education; the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, the College of Nursing, the College of Public Health, and the recently formed College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences. Unique programs include an accredited program in Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music, America's lone master's degree in Storytelling, and the Appalachian Studies programs, focused on the surrounding Appalachian region.

ETSU/Mountain States Health Alliance Athletic Center, previously known as the Memorial Center, and popularly referred to as the "Mini-Dome", is an 8,539-seat multi-purpose arena on the campus of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. Until 2014, it hosted ETSU's men's and women's basketball teams. It also serves as the indoor venue for tennis and track. At one time, the facility also hosted ETSU's football team, but the school discontinued its football program at the end of the 2003 season as a cost-cutting measure. The football team was reinstated in 2015, but did not return to the facility; the Buccaneers played the 2015 and 2016 seasons at Kermit Tipton Stadium, a local high school facility, before opening the new William B. Greene Jr. Stadium in 2017. It was the host of the 2006 and 2007 Atlantic Sun Conference men's basketball tournaments, and the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships from 2001 to 2011. The Mini-Dome has also hosted non-athletic events that could not be housed in an indoor setting on most American college campuses, such as national indoor championships for free flight model aircraft. In December 2009, the Tennessee Board of Regents approved the renaming of Memorial Center to ETSU/Mountain States Health Alliance Athletic Center, adding the name of the hospital system headquartered in Johnson City to the official name of the Mini-Dome.On October 16, 2010, the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center hosted an NBA exhibition game between the New Orleans Hornets and Atlanta Hawks.

Thomas Stadium is a baseball venue in Johnson City, Tennessee, United States. It is home to the East Tennessee State Buccaneers baseball team of the NCAA Division I Southern Conference. Opened in 2012, the facility has a listed capacity of 1,000 spectators. Features of the stadium include an LED video board, a FieldTurf playing surface, stadium lighting, berm seating, concessions, and restrooms. The stadium replaced Howard Johnson Field as the home of East Tennessee State's baseball program.The playing field at Thomas Stadium opened on February 17, 2012, when East Tennessee State defeated Eastern Kentucky 8–3 in front of 327 spectators. The stadium itself opened on February 15, 2013 with a 6–4 loss to Penn State with 910 in attendance. The largest crowd to fill the stadium occurred on April 9, 2013, when 1,752 fans attended the Bucs' game versus Tennessee.

William B. Greene Jr. Stadium is a football stadium on the campus of East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in Johnson City, Tennessee. The stadium is named after businessman and longtime ETSU supporter William B. Greene Jr. Located on the southwestern corner of campus at the foot of Buffalo Mountain, the new stadium is expected to have a seated capacity of over 7,000, plus standing room for an additional 3,000, and cost roughly $26.615 million. The stadium is home to the newly resumed East Tennessee State Buccaneers football team, which played their 2015 and 2016 seasons at Kermit Tipton Stadium on the campus of Science Hill High School.

Mountain Home, zip code 37684, is a separate postal zone consisting of the grounds of the James H. Quillen VA hospital and Mountain Home National Cemetery, which also includes classrooms and administrative buildings of the East Tennessee State University James H. Quillen College of Medicine. It is entirely contained inside the city of Johnson City.

The Mountain Branch, National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers was an old soldiers' home opened in 1904 in Mountain Home, Johnson City, Tennessee. Its site has since been taken over by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, and is home to the Mountain Home National Cemetery and the James H. Quillen VA Center. Also known as the Mountain Home, its campus was designated a National Historic Landmark District in 2011, as a well-preserved example of an early 20th-century veterans care facility.

Summers-Taylor Stadium is a college soccer-specific stadium located on the campus of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, in the United States. The stadium is home to the East Tennessee State Buccaneers men's and women's soccer programs. The stadium opened in 2008 and sits 2,000 spectators.The stadium hosted a semifinal match in the 2020 Southern Conference Men's Soccer Tournament.

Mountain Home National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located at Mountain Home, within Johnson City in Washington County, Tennessee. Administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, it encompasses 99.7 acres (40.3 ha), and as of 2018, had over 17,000 interments.

Johnson City Medical Center is a hospital in Johnson City, Tennessee. It is a Level I Trauma Center and one of three major tertiary referral hubs of regional provider Ballad Health. It has 445 beds, plus 86 in the attached Niswonger Children's Hospital. It is also a teaching hospital for numerous institutions, including the adjacent East Tennessee State University James H. Quillen College of Medicine. Physician and author Abraham Verghese described his experiences treating HIV in the 1980s at Johnson City Medical Center, as well as the neighboring Mountain Home VA Medical Center, in his memoir My Own Country. Since 2018 the facility has been operated by Ballad Health.

Princeton Free Will Baptist Church, formerly Thankful Baptist Church, is a historic church building at 104 Water Street in Johnson City, Tennessee. The brick church was built in 1912 to serve Thankful Baptist Church, an African-American congregation. Thankful Baptist Church moved to a new location on Watauga Avenue in 1975. In 1977, the congregation sold the Water Street church property to Princeton Free Will Baptist Church.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
