Silveira (Torres Vedras)

Santa Cruz Airfield (ICAO: LPSC) is an aerodrome located in Santa Cruz, some 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) west-northwest of Torres Vedras, Portugal. It accommodates light aircraft.

Santa Cruz is a locality in the Silveira parish, part of the municipality of Torres Vedras, Portugal. It is mostly known for its extensive quality beaches. The beach of Santa Cruz served as inspiration for several poets, including Antero de Quental, João de Barros and Kazuo Dan. In June 2016, an official route was inaugurated, crossing places that were once crossed by the poets. This exhibition aims to honor and immortalize the three great poets, portraying their passage and experiences through Santa Cruz.

Penafirme Convent was an ancient Augustinian monastery located on the border of Póvoa de Penafirme, in the parish of A dos Cunhados e Maceira, Lisbon District, Portugal. Although the convent is largely in ruins as a result of the 1755 earthquake that affected large parts of Portugal, parts of the church and monks’ cells remain intact. Close to the sea, the ruins are slowly being overtaken by sand dunes.

A dos Cunhados (Portuguese pronunciation: [ɐ ðuʃ kuˈɲaðuʃ]) is a former civil parish in the municipality of Torres Vedras in the central Oeste subregion of Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish A dos Cunhados e Maceira. Covering an area of approximately 43.98 square kilometres (16.98 sq mi), its population in 2001 was 6936 resident inhabitants.

In the Battle of Vimeiro (sometimes shown as "Vimiera" or "Vimeira" in contemporary British texts) on 21 August 1808, the British under General Arthur Wellesley (who later became the Duke of Wellington) defeated the French under Major-General Jean-Andoche Junot near the village of Vimeiro (Portuguese pronunciation: [viˈmɐjɾu]), near Lisbon, Portugal, during the Peninsular War. This battle put an end to the first French invasion of Portugal.Four days after the Battle of Roliça, Wellesley's army was attacked by a French army under General Junot near the village of Vimeiro. The battle began as a battle of manoeuvre, with French troops attempting to outflank the British left, but Wellesley was able to redeploy his army to face the assault. Meanwhile, Junot sent in two central columns but these were forced back by sustained volleys from troops in line. Soon afterwards, the flanking attack was beaten off and Junot retreated towards Torres Vedras, having lost 2,000 men and 13 cannon, compared to 700 Anglo-Portuguese losses. No pursuit was attempted because Wellesley was superseded by Sir Harry Burrard and then Sir Hew Dalrymple (one having arrived during the battle, the second soon after).

A dos Cunhados e Maceira is a civil parish in the municipality of Torres Vedras, Portugal. It was formed in 2013 by the merger of the former parishes A dos Cunhados and Maceira. The population in 2011 was 10,391, in an area of 52.72 km².

Vimeiro (Portuguese pronunciation: [viˈmɐjɾu]) is a freguesia (civil parish) in the municipality of Lourinhã in west-central Portugal. It is in the District of Lisboa. The population in 2011 was 1,470, in an area of 7.08 km².Vimeiro was the site of the 1808 Battle of Vimeiro, where British forces under the Duke of Wellington defeated the French, ending the first French invasion of Portugal. A monument was dedicated in Vimeiro on August 21, 1908, the 100th anniversary of the battle, by Manuel II of Portugal.

The Castro of Zambujal (Portuguese: Castro do Zambujal) is a Chalcolithic age archeological site in the municipality of Torres Vedras in the western litoral area of the Centro Region, Portugal. The Zambujal Castro is one of the most important Copper Age settlements in the peninsula of Lisbon, and whose culture lasted until the beginning of the agrarian periods of Iberian history. Apart from being the most northerly discovered Copper Age site in Portugal, it went through two main building phases: an import-oriented phase and the second associated with the Beaker culture. Most of the artefacts discovered at the site are stored and displayed in the Leonel Trindade Municipal Museum, Torres Vedras.

The Fort of Olheiros (also known as the Fort of Canudo) was a small fort in the town and municipality of Torres Vedras, in the Lisbon District of Portugal. Situated at 105 metres above sea level, it was the most northerly of all the forts and other military facilities built in 1809-10 under the orders of the Duke of Wellington during the Peninsular War, and commonly known as the Lines of Torres Vedras.

Porto Dinheiro (or Praia de Porto Dinheiro) is a locality in the civil parish (freguesia) of Ribamar, municipality of Lourinhã, in Portugal. It is known as a rich fossil locality, from where were found many Late Jurassic dinosaurs and mammals. A few even received the locality name, like the Dinheirosaurus lourinhanensis and Jurassic mammals like Portopinheirodon asymmetricus and the multituberculates family Pinheirodontidae. The second one is the based for a new family of mammals, the Pinheirodontidae. An diverse ichnofauna is known in that site. This locality was once considered to be early Cretaceous in age, but it is Tithonian (Late Jurassic).

The Fort of São Vicente (St. Vincent) is located in the town and municipality of Torres Vedras, in the Lisbon District of Portugal. In 1809 it was the first of 152 forts, redoubts and other defences to be developed as part of three defensive lines between the Atlantic Ocean and the River Tagus that were designed by the Duke of Wellington to protect the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, from possible invasion by French troops during the Peninsular War. These came to be known as the Lines of Torres Vedras. Together with the Fort of Alqueidão, it is considered the most important fortress of those constructed for the Lines.

Torres Vedras (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈtoʁɨʒ ˈvɛðɾɐʃ] ) is a municipality in the Portuguese district of Lisbon, approximately 40 kilometres (25 mi) north of the capital Lisbon in the Oeste region, in the Centro of Portugal. The population as of 2011 was 83,075, in an area of 407.15 square kilometres (157.20 sq mi).
