Cadney cum Howsham

Howsham is a village in the civil parish of Cadney in North Lincolnshire, England. It lies on the B1434 road, 3.5 miles (6 km) south from Barnetby and 3 miles (5 km) south-east from Brigg.

Howsham railway station was a station in Howsham, Lincolnshire on the line between Grimsby and Lincoln, England. The station opened in 1848 closed on 1 November 1965 as were many neighbouring stations, however the line it stood on remains open.

Somerby (also known as Somerby juxta Bigby or Somerby by Brigg) is a hamlet and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated approximately 4 miles (6 km) east from the town of Brigg and in the ecclesiastical parish of Somerby. Somerby lies in the Lincolnshire Wolds, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, between the villages of Bigby and Searby.

Bigby is a village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The village is situated about 10 miles (20 km) south from the Humber Bridge, and 4 miles (6 km) east from the town of Brigg. The village lies in the Lincolnshire Wolds, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the administrative border with North Lincolnshire. The hamlets of Kettleby and Kettleby Thorpe lie within the parish, and that of Somerby almost immediately to the south. According to the 2001 census Bigby had a population of 234, increasing to 347 at the 2011 census.

Wrawby Junction is a busy railway junction located a short distance west of Barnetby, North Lincolnshire, England and controls the confluence of the Network Rail routes from Lincoln, Retford and Scunthorpe towards Immingham and Cleethorpes. The junction was controlled by a large signal box of part-brick, part-wooden, construction and is now controlled from York Rail Operating Centre (ROC).

The Wrawby Junction rail crash was a train crash which occurred on 9 December 1983, at Wrawby Junction, near Barnetby station, North Lincolnshire, England. It happened when a British Rail freight train collided at low speed with the side of a local passenger train. The first carriage of the passenger train was derailed and turned over onto its side, and one passenger was killed instantly. In the subsequent inquiry, the accident was deemed to have been caused by a signalman failing to secure a set of points that he had operated manually after an equipment failure.

On 17 October 1898 at Wrawby Junction, on what was the Great Central Railway near Brigg in Lincolnshire, England, a passenger train collided with a derailed goods train; killing 8 people and injuring 26 more. The passenger train was the 16:45 from Cleethorpes to Manchester consisting of a brake van, three passenger carriages and a rear guard's van. The goods train which had left Grimsby earlier in the day for Doncaster consisted of 44 waggons loaded with larch tree trunks, three trunks to a load secured with chains. The length of the trunks (up to 42 ft (13 m)) necessitated the close coupling of the waggons. The goods train was being shunted on a curve at low speed adjacent to the main line when five trucks derailed just as the passenger train approached. One truck toppled over; its load of timber projecting over the main line. The brake van 'was carried away with the exception of the offside and roof'. The next two carriages were 'clean swept away' above the floor level; the first compartment of the third passenger carriage was also destroyed. The investigation admitted that it was not possible to stop shunting operations from occurring on lines parallel and close to passenger running lines.

Cadney is a village and civil parish in the North Lincolnshire district, in the county of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the parish at the 2011 census was 459. It is situated 3 miles (5 km) south from the town of Brigg. Cadney's Grade I listed Anglican church is dedicated to All Saints. It is chiefly Norman, with an Early English tower and chancel, and a Norman font. The parish was created on 1 April 1936 through the abolition of Cadney cum Howsham and Newstead. The parish boundary is defined by water on all sides, by the Old River Ancholme, Kettleby Beck and North Kelsey Beck. Within the parish, at Newstead on the River Ancholme, lies the site of the Gilbertine Holy Trinity Priory, founded by Henry II in 1171, and endowed with the island of Ancholme, and lands around Cadney and Hardwick. The priory was limited to 13 canons and lay brothers. It was surrendered in 1538 under the act of suppression. On the site of the priory stands Newstead Priory Farmhouse, which retains the remains of a Norman vaulted room and a Perpendicular window. The farm is Grade I listed.

Pingley POW (prisoner of war) camp is one of the few remaining POW camps in the United Kingdom in good condition. Unlike the nearby Eden Camp which is preserved as a Second World War museum, Pingley Camp lies in a semi derelict state in the grounds of Pingley Farm. It is situated on the outskirts of Brigg, Lincolnshire. The camp was used to house mainly Italian prisoners of war, though Germans were also held there. After the war the camp was used as an emergency sheltered housing under the name Pingley Farm Hostel. The original buildings used (and constructed) by the prisoners are situated towards the rear of the site entrance and remain in bad condition. The brick buildings at the front of the site are in fairly good condition, and have post war modifications dating from around 1950–1980. The camp has been demolished as of January 2009, and the site was redeveloped as housing. The area has been developed with ten luxury executive houses and is now known as the Pingley Park estate. The first was started in July 2010.

St Mary's Church is a redundant Anglican church in the village of Barnetby, Lincolnshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.

Wrawby Postmill is a windmill at Wrawby near Brigg, in North Lincolnshire, England. The mill is the last post mill in the north of England, and was built between 1760 and 1790 to serve the Elsham Hall estate. Originally it had four common sails, but through most of its working life had a more usual combination of two common and two spring sails, providing power with flexibility. It was working until the 1940s, when it had four spring sails, before becoming derelict. Following the possibility of its demolition, it was acquired and restored in 1962 by Wrawby Windmill Preservation Society. It was returned to working order in 1965 with new sails and a new set of stones. Maintenance work in 2008, which returned the mill to mixed sail types, was funded by the SPAB Mill Repairs Fund and local residents. The mill is the last working post mill in Northern England, and is open to the public. The mill also contains a small museum of milling tools, and holds milling demonstrations. The windmill was Grade II* listed in 1951.

Wrawby is a village in North Lincolnshire, England. It lies 2 miles (3 km) east of Brigg and close to Humberside Airport, on the A18. The 2001 Census recorded a village population of 1,293, in around 600 homes, which increased to 1,469 at the 2011 census. Wrawby is noted for its postmill.
