Berga Naval Base

Berga is partly an estate and partly an associated castle in Västerhaninge socken in Haninge Municipality, in Södertörn in Södermanland and in Stockholm County, Sweden.

The Hårsfjärden, or Horsfjärden (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈhɔ̂ʂːˌfjæːɖɛn]), is a fjard off the Baltic Sea near Stockholm, Sweden. About 20 kilometres (12 mi) long, it has surface area of 61.5 square kilometres (23.7 sq mi). It is the location of three Swedish naval bases: Märsgarn, Muskö, and Berga. It was the location of the Hårsfjärden incident, during October 1–13, 1982, in which Swedish forces appeared to have trapped a foreign submarine, believed to be Soviet, but the submarine escaped.Three Swedish destroyers were sunk in the Hårsfjärden in an explosion on 17 September 1941, during World War II. The three destroyers sunk at a naval base on the fjord were Göteborg, Klas Horn and Klas Uggla. Göteborg and Klas Horn were later salvaged and returned to service, while Klas Uggla was scrapped.

National Road 73 (Riksväg 73), Nynäsvägen, is a Swedish national road in Sweden between Stockholm and Nynäshamn. The length is 57 km (35 mi). National road 73 begins at the Johanneshov junction at Gullmarsplan in Stockholm with connections from the bridges Johanneshovsbron and Skanstullsbron and county road 226 (Huddingevägen), passing above Södra länken and continues southwards. At Gubbängen junction goes beneath county road 229 (Örbyleden/Tyresövägen), continues past Farsta, passing the municipal border of Huddinge where then county road 271 (Magelungsvägen) joins. Continues past Trångsund and Skogås. In Handen it goes above the end point of county road 260 (Gudöbroleden), continues past Jordbro, Västerhaninge, Landfjärden and Ösmo to Nynäshamn, where national road 73 comes to an end at the railway station and the Gotland quay. The road is a motorway between Stockholm and Västerhaninge. The stretch between Västerhaninge (Fors junction) and Nynäshamn (Älgviken junction) has been built to a motorway as well. Construction began on September 1, 2005 and was finished in 2009. The bridges for road 73 between Fors and Nynäshamn were designed by Erik Andersson (architect).

The Stockholm Sweden Temple (Swedish: Templet i Stockholm) is the 34th operating temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As of 2024, the temple is closed for reconstruction, which is expected to last three years. The temple sits on a 6-acre (24,000 m2) lot with six spires rising above the pines of the nearby forest. A cobblestone path leads to its doors. Prior its current, major reconstruction, the temple had a total of 14,508 square feet (1,347.8 m2), four ordinance rooms, and three sealing rooms. The temple serves Latter-day Saints from the countries of Sweden, Norway, and Latvia.

Österhaninge (Swedish pronunciation: [œstɛrˈhânːɪŋɛ]) is an urban area located within Haninge Municipality in Stockholm County, Sweden. It is the birthplace of former Prime Minister of Sweden Fredrik Reinfeldt, black metal frontman and vocalist Dead (Per Yngve Ohlin) hockey player Kristian Huselius.

Årsta Castle (Swedish: Årsta slott) in Haninge Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden, is a castle built in the 17th century. The Årsta estate is mentioned in 1308, when it was the base for the Swedish property of the Teutonic Order. It was sold to the nobleman Erik Axelsson Tott in 1467. There are still remains of the medieval ruins at the land close to Årsta Castle. The present Årsta Castle was constructed between 1660 and 1667 by Claes Hansson Bielkenstierna and his spouse Barbro Åkesdotter Natt och Dag. It was inherited through marriage by the noble families Kurck, Soop and Fleming until it was bought in 1805 by Carl Fredrik Bremer, the father of Fredrika Bremer. She died on the estate in 1865. In 1898–1910, it was owned by a stock holding company, and in 1910-1919 by telephone engineer Gustaf Cedergren, who modernized it internally. Årsta Castle was acquired by Österhaninge Municipality in 1966 and is today used by the restaurant Årsta Slott Gastronomi and the society Årstasällskapet.

Jordbro is a suburban locality situated in Haninge Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden with 10,291 inhabitants in 2010.The suburb is separated in two by the Stockholm commuter rail. Route 73 (Nynäsvägen), passes just east of Jordbro and connects Stockholm and Nynäshamn. East of the railway lies a housing area built as part of the Million Programme, in the 1960s and 1970s. The housing area is made up of blocks of flats, with single family homes to the north and to the south. To the west of the housing area and the railway lies a relatively large industrial area, containing the main offices and production plant of The Coca-Cola Company in Sweden. Dagab, Lagena, Osram and Åhlens also have distribution warehouses in the industrial area. Just to the south, between Jordbro and Västerhaninge is Jordbro Grave Field, a burial ground, thought to have been used somewhere between 500 BC and 500 CE. Jordbro has three schools, Kvarnbäcksskolan, Höglundaskolan and Fredsduvan, which are lower primary schools with preschools. Starting in 1973, filmmaker Rainer Hartleb has made a series of documentaries focusing on the lives of a number of Jordbro residents, collectively known as the Jordbro suite.

Nedre Rudasjön is a lake in Stockholm County, Södermanland, Sweden. Its maximum dimensions are approximately 590 metres by 200 metres. Nedre Rudasjön, or Nedre Rudan, is a lake in Haninge municipality in Stockholm which is part of the Tyresån's main catchment area. The lake is 14.5 meters deep, has an area of 0.0686 square kilometers, and is 39.3 meters above sea level. About 400 meters north of Nedre Rudan is Övre Rudasjön. The name Ruda is said to originate from the Old Swedish word for "clearing", but according to another theory, the name comes from the fact that there used to be plenty of carp fish ruda in the two lakes.

Västerhaninge (Swedish pronunciation: [vɛstɛrˈhânːɪŋɛ]) is a locality situated in Haninge Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden. It had 15,134 inhabitants in 2010. It is connected to Stockholm by commuter rail. Västerhaninge borders the large Hanveden forest to the north, the Jordbro locality to the east, an agricultural region to the south, and the Tungelsta area to the west. The locality lies 22 km from Stockholm and 6 km from Handen. Districts of the locality include Åbylund, Norrskogen, and Jägartorp in the north, and Ribbyberg and Nedersta in the south. The Stockholm-Nynäs railway runs through the town, and the original station building was demolished to make way for a new one in 1997. The nearby Tungelsta station is the only one in the region to survive from the railway's original construction.

Haninge Municipality (Haninge kommun) is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in Handen, a part of the Stockholm urban area. Haninge Municipality was formed in 1971 when Västerhaninge and Österhaninge were united. The municipal coat of arms depicts a capercaillie from which the name Haninge is believed to have been derived (the German word hahn means capercaillie), while the anchor symbolizes the naval base in the municipality. The German word usage is supposedly from the old German Hansa traders who operated in the area.

Handen (also known as Haninge Centrum) is a part of Metropolitan Stockholm and the seat of Haninge Municipality (Haninge Kommun) in Stockholm County in eastern Sweden. Handen had around 15 092 inhabitants in 2018. Geographically and statistically Handen is a part of the Stockholm urban area. Handen has a station on the Stockholm commuter rail system and a large bus station serving great areas of Södertörn. Handen is where the municipality seat of Haninge is located. Haninge's major shopping center, Haninge Centrum, and the joint campus of KTH and Södertörns Högskola are also located here. The Övre Rudasjön lake is located just west of the commercial center.

Övre Rudasjön (Swedish for "Upper Crucian carp Lake"), or Övre Rudan for short, is a lake in Haninge Municipality, 18 km (11 mi) south of central Stockholm, Sweden. Forming part of the Tyresån Lake System, its major inflow comes from lakes Nedre Rudasjön ("Lower Crucian carp Lake") and Trylen to the south, while its outflow passes over Dammträsk into Drevviken to the north. The tall buildings of Handen commercial centre along the eastern shore of the lake contrast the dense forest of the Rudan Open-air Area on the opposite shore. The proximity to the commuter rail station at Handen, makes the lake easily accessible to a large number of people, while the forests surrounding it makes it attractive to open-air lovers. It is used for bathing in summers and cross-country skiing in winters.Compared to other lakes in the Tyresån Lake System, levels of phosphorus in the lake are moderate. With are 28 species of vascular plants by the lake and 1 species of Stoneworth in it, the lake fauna is considered relatively rich in species.
