Handen railway station

Haninge Municipality (Haninge kommun) is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in Handen, a part of the Stockholm urban area. Haninge Municipality was formed in 1971 when Västerhaninge and Österhaninge were united. The municipal coat of arms depicts a capercaillie from which the name Haninge is believed to have been derived (the German word hahn means capercaillie), while the anchor symbolizes the naval base in the municipality. The German word usage is supposedly from the old German Hansa traders who operated in the area.

Handen (also known as Haninge Centrum) is a part of Metropolitan Stockholm and the seat of Haninge Municipality (Haninge Kommun) in Stockholm County in eastern Sweden. Handen had around 15 092 inhabitants in 2018. Geographically and statistically Handen is a part of the Stockholm urban area. Handen has a station on the Stockholm commuter rail system and a large bus station serving great areas of Södertörn. Handen is where the municipality seat of Haninge is located. Haninge's major shopping center, Haninge Centrum, and the joint campus of KTH and Södertörns Högskola are also located here. The Övre Rudasjön lake is located just west of the commercial center.

Övre Rudasjön (Swedish for "Upper Crucian carp Lake"), or Övre Rudan for short, is a lake in Haninge Municipality, 18 km (11 mi) south of central Stockholm, Sweden. Forming part of the Tyresån Lake System, its major inflow comes from lakes Nedre Rudasjön ("Lower Crucian carp Lake") and Trylen to the south, while its outflow passes over Dammträsk into Drevviken to the north. The tall buildings of Handen commercial centre along the eastern shore of the lake contrast the dense forest of the Rudan Open-air Area on the opposite shore. The proximity to the commuter rail station at Handen, makes the lake easily accessible to a large number of people, while the forests surrounding it makes it attractive to open-air lovers. It is used for bathing in summers and cross-country skiing in winters.Compared to other lakes in the Tyresån Lake System, levels of phosphorus in the lake are moderate. With are 28 species of vascular plants by the lake and 1 species of Stoneworth in it, the lake fauna is considered relatively rich in species.

Nedre Rudasjön is a lake in Stockholm County, Södermanland, Sweden. Its maximum dimensions are approximately 590 metres by 200 metres. Nedre Rudasjön, or Nedre Rudan, is a lake in Haninge municipality in Stockholm which is part of the Tyresån's main catchment area. The lake is 14.5 meters deep, has an area of 0.0686 square kilometers, and is 39.3 meters above sea level. About 400 meters north of Nedre Rudan is Övre Rudasjön. The name Ruda is said to originate from the Old Swedish word for "clearing", but according to another theory, the name comes from the fact that there used to be plenty of carp fish ruda in the two lakes.

Dammträsk (Swedish for "Pond Swamp") is a small man made lake within the Tyresån Lake System, located in Haninge Municipality, south of central Stockholm, Sweden. The lake receives water from Övre and Nedre Rudasjön south of the lake and empties into Drevviken north of it. Located just south of the residential area Kvarntorp, and north of the densely populated central Haninge, the wetland lake receives considerable amount of nutritive salts.

Jordbro is a suburban locality situated in Haninge Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden with 10,291 inhabitants in 2010.The suburb is separated in two by the Stockholm commuter rail. Route 73 (Nynäsvägen), passes just east of Jordbro and connects Stockholm and Nynäshamn. East of the railway lies a housing area built as part of the Million Programme, in the 1960s and 1970s. The housing area is made up of blocks of flats, with single family homes to the north and to the south. To the west of the housing area and the railway lies a relatively large industrial area, containing the main offices and production plant of The Coca-Cola Company in Sweden. Dagab, Lagena, Osram and Åhlens also have distribution warehouses in the industrial area. Just to the south, between Jordbro and Västerhaninge is Jordbro Grave Field, a burial ground, thought to have been used somewhere between 500 BC and 500 CE. Jordbro has three schools, Kvarnbäcksskolan, Höglundaskolan and Fredsduvan, which are lower primary schools with preschools. Starting in 1973, filmmaker Rainer Hartleb has made a series of documentaries focusing on the lives of a number of Jordbro residents, collectively known as the Jordbro suite.

Vega is a station on the Stockholm commuter train network, located in the neighbourhood of Vega within Haninge municipality on the Nynäs line.The station opened in April 2019, and was built in conjunction with the development of the surrounding area. It is located between the stations Skogås and Handen, and has a central island platform. The ticket hall is located at the southern end of the station and preparations have been made for an entrance also at the northern end. The station has a normal weekday about 1700 boarding passengers, and it is anticipated that once Vega district is fully developed, there will be approximately 4200 boarding passengers each day. About 90 parking spaces for have been created, and bicycle parking is available, opposite the station entrance. Travel time between Vega station and Stockholm City is approximately 25 minutes. At the station there is an artistic decoration Flos Solis Maior by artist Ulla Fredriksson.

Vega is a town district in Haninge Municipality, in Sweden. As of 2017, Vega has a population of 6,033 people. It is located north of Handen and is part of Stockholm. As of 2019, Vega is being redeveloped with more than 3,000 planned homes. Vega station on the Stockholm commuter rail system opened on 1 April 2019.

Trylen is a small lake 17 km (10 mi) south of central Stockholm, Sweden. Shared by Huddinge Municipality and Haninge Municipality, it forms part of the Tyresån Lake System.

The Brandbergen Mosque, officially the Islamic Association in Brandbergen was a mosque located in an apartment in Brandbergen, Haninge Municipality, south of Stockholm, Sweden. In the 1990s the mosque supported the extremist Armed Islamic Group of Algeria during the Algerian Civil War. According to the Jamestown Foundation, the mosque "has been repeatedly linked to Salafist-Jihadist terrorism since the early 1990s, when it served as a propaganda hub for the Algerian Groupe Islamique Armé (GIA)."In 2004 an Arabic-language manual, which carried the logo and address of the Brandbergen Mosque, was spread on the internet. The manual described the construction of simple chemical weapons, including how to build a chemical munition from an ordinary artillery round. On December 7, 2006, the Swedish citizen Mohamed Moumou, who is described by the United States Department of the Treasury as an "uncontested leader of an extremist group centered around the Brandbergen Mosque in Stockholm", was put on the United Nations Security Council Committee 1267 list of foreign terrorists.The mosque closed in 2008.

As of September 2017, the population is estimated to be around 10,000.Most of the buildings are dense apartment blocks that were built during the 1960s and 1970s. Some of the nearby amenities include supermarkets, restaurants, a post office, a shopping center, and Tyresta National Park. The commute to central Stockholm is generally facilitated via bus and commuter rail services, with options for walking, biking, and driving.

Vendelsömalm is part of Metropolitan Stockholm, located in the Haninge Municipality (kommun) in Stockholm County in eastern Sweden. As of 2020 it has a population of 7,192. Geographically, the urban area is incorporated into Stockholm urban area.
