Lorient Agglomération (Breton: An Oriant Tolpad-kêrioù) is the communauté d'agglomération, an intercommunal structure, centred on the city of Lorient. It is located in the Morbihan department, in the Brittany region, northwestern France. It was created in January 2014. Its area is 738.7 km2. Its population was 205,765 in 2020, of which 57,412 were in Lorient proper.

Redon Agglomération is a French intercommunal structure centred on the city of Redon. It is located in the departments Morbihan, Ille-et-Vilaine and Loire-Atlantique, in the regions Brittany and Pays de la Loire, northwestern France. It was created in April 1996. Its area is 990.9 km2. Its population was 66,478 in 2018, of which 9,151 in Redon proper.

Lorient (French: [lɔʁjɑ̃] ; Breton: An Oriant) is a town (commune) and seaport in the Morbihan department of Brittany in western France.

The Hôtel de Ville (French pronunciation: [otɛl də vil], City Hall) is a municipal building in Lorient, Morbihan, western France, standing on Place de l'Hôtel de Ville.

The raid on Lorient was a British amphibious operation in the region around the town of Lorient from 29 September to 10 October 1746 during the War of the Austrian Succession. It was planned as an attempt to force the French to withdraw their forces from Flanders to reinforce their own coast. At the same time, as Lorient was used by the French East India Company as a base and supply depot, its destruction would serve British objectives in the East Indies. Around 4500 British soldiers were embarked, but the ships carrying them had to wait off the Lorient coast several days, allowing the town to organise its defences and call in reinforcements from other towns in the region. The British troops only arrived in the outskirts of the town on 3 October and negotiations for the town's surrender were ended by the bombardment of 5–7 October. On 7 October the British force was ordered to retreat. The British engineers' incompetence and losses to disease and fatigue forced the commander to stop his offensive. At the same time, the French commander originally planned to surrender, believing his enemy to have an overwhelming numerical superiority and knowing the weakness of his defences and the poor training and weaponry of his own troops. He made a surrender offer on 7 October, shortly after the enemy's departure, and never received a reply. The raid is notable for its military results, such as forcing the French to develop fortifications in southern Brittany, but also for its cultural consequences, such as starting a controversy between David Hume and Voltaire and giving rise to a cult of the Virgin Mary in the town along with several songs describing the siege.

The Hôtel Gabriel is a group of 18th-century buildings located in the Peristyle in Lorient, France. Designed by Jacques Gabriel, it was commissioned by the Compagnie Perpetuelle des Indes to build an auction house for its merchandise. The two pavilions are built symmetrically and in a classical style. They are located on either side of a main courtyard, surrounded to the south by a two-hectare French garden, and to the north by a parade ground. Destroyed by Allied air action during World War II, it was rebuilt identically between 1956 and 1959. Reclaimed by the Royal Navy in 1770 after the dissolution of the Compagnie perpétuelle des Indes, it was used by its staff for almost two centuries. In 2008, the municipality of Lorient bought the buildings and installed its archives and architecture and heritage services.

Lorient is a railway station in Lorient, Brittany, France. The station was opened on 26 September 1862 is located on the Savenay–Landerneau railway. Today, the station is served by TGV (high speed), Intercités (long distance) and TER (local) services operated by the SNCF.

The Stade du Moustoir - Yves Allainmat, known as the Stade du Moustoir (French pronunciation: [stad dy mustwaʁ]), is a multi-use stadium in Lorient, France. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of FC Lorient. The stadium can hold up to 18,110 with the new south stand.

The Port of Kergroise is a commercial port located in the district of Kergroise, Lorient, on the south coast of Brittany, France. It is owned by the Region of Brittany since 2007 and managed by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Morbihan. Based on the annual tonnage processed, it is ranked as the 14th most important commercial port in France.

The Scorff (French pronunciation: [skɔʁf]; Breton: Skorf) River flows from central Brittany and enters the Atlantic Ocean on the south coast in Lorient. The Scorff rises north of Langoëlan, in the Morbihan department, and flows through the towns of Guémené-sur-Scorff and Pont-Scorff. From there its bed enlarges to form a ria, submitted to the tides. It joins the Blavet in Lorient, where it enters the Ocean in the roadstead of Lorient. It is 78.6 km (48.8 mi) long and its basin area is 483 km2 (186 sq mi).
