The Durham police mast (officially the County Police Communications Tower) was a structure that stood in the city of Durham in northern England. It was designed by county architect J. L. Parnaby and structural engineer Ove Arup and Partners. It was erected in 1968 and stood 162 feet (49 m) tall, providing radio communications to Durham Constabulary police officers. It was built to a tripod design in reinforced concrete to satisfy a requirement for a rigid mast that was slender enough to minimise impact on views of Durham Cathedral. The structure was dismantled in 2017 as part of a redevelopment of the police headquarters but was required, by a planning condition, to be re-erected. In 2022 Durham Constabulary applied for permission to dispose of the mast.

Durham is a railway station on the East Coast Main Line, which runs between London King's Cross and Edinburgh Waverley. The station, situated 14 miles 3 chains (14.0 miles; 22.6 kilometres) south of Newcastle, serves the cathedral city of Durham in County Durham, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by London North Eastern Railway. It is managed and served frequently by London North Eastern Railway (as a stop on the East Coast Main Line). It is also served by CrossCountry, TransPennine Express and Northern trains. Durham is a through station with two platforms, located north of the city centre, on a hill. South of the station, the railway line approaches the station via the eleven arched Durham Viaduct; a major local landmark. After a renovation between 2006 and 2008, the original stone station building is now the ticket hall and main concourse.

Rushford Court is a student hall and former hospital in Durham, England. It opened in 1853 as County Hospital, and closed as a hospital in 2010 after services were moved to Lanchester Road Hospital on the outskirts of the city. In 2018, after extensive work to demolish later additions to the hospital building and construct new accommodation blocks, Unite Students reopened the site as a privately-operated hall for Durham University students under the name Rushford Court. In 2019-20, the university used the site as a temporary home for its John Snow College, and in 2023 announced that it would be using it as a temporary home for Hild Bede College, and afterwards founding a new college on the site.

Durham Viaduct is a grade II* listed railway viaduct in the City of Durham in County Durham, in North East England. The viaduct is an important local landmark, and carries the East Coast Main Line railway, it is immediately south of Durham railway station. The viaduct is 790 feet (240 m) long, and 100 feet (30 m) tall, and consists of eleven arches. It is made from sandstone with ashlar dressings, and brick soffits.The viaduct dates from 1857, and was probably built by Thomas Elliot Harrison for the North Eastern Railway. It was originally part of a branch line, the Durham to Bishop Auckland Line, however it was later incorporated into what became the East Coast Main Line, when two new lines were opened to Gateshead to the north, in 1868, and from Durham to Tursdale Junction and Darlington to the south in 1872.The viaduct became grade II* listed in 1970.

Redhills is Grade II listed headquarters building of the Durham Miners' Association (DMA) in Durham, England. Officially called Miners' New Hall, it is known as Redhills from its location on Redhills Lane in the City of Durham. Redhills was designed by H. T. Gradon in Edwardian Baroque style and opened in 1915 to replace the former Miners' Hall building in North Road. Its debating chamber was known as the "Pitman's Parliament", which was featured in Historic England's 100 Places: Power, Protest & progress listIn March 2020 the National Lottery Heritage Fund awarded a grant for restoration and renovation work, with the aim of restoring Redhills as a centre of culture and education. In October 2021, as part of the grant agreement, Durham Miners Association transferred ownership of the site to the Redhills Charitable Incorporated Organisation.In 2022, Redhills stated publicly its intention to join a transnational serial nomination bid for UNESCO World Heritage status, coordinated by The Workers Museum in Copenhagen. As of 2023, restoration and renovation works are underway.The Redhills Charity, which operates Redhills Durham Miners Hall, is run by Nick Malyan who is the Chief Executive of the charity and was appointed in February 2022. University Hospital of North Durham is an acute care hospital built to replace the older Dryburn Hospital on the same site. It is managed by the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.

It was created under the Local Government Act 1894 based on the Durham rural sanitary district and covered an area around the City of Durham, which was a municipal borough. It was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 and went to form part of the new City of Durham district.
