North Wollongong, New South Wales

The City of Wollongong is a local government area in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. The area is situated adjacent to the Tasman Sea, the Princes Motorway and the Illawarra railway line. Located 80 kilometres (50 mi) south of Sydney, the City of Wollongong covers 714 square kilometres (276 sq mi) and occupies a narrow coastal strip bordered by the Royal National Park to the north, Lake Illawarra to the south, the Tasman Sea to the east and the Illawarra escarpment to the west. The Lord Mayor of the City of Wollongong Council is Councillor Gordon Bradbery, an independent politician.

Gwynneville is an inner city suburb of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia located approximately 2 km north-west of the city centre. It was originally named Gwynne Ville after the Gwynne family who owned the property. It was sold in two large lots, both of which were subdivided. The first area, owned by Mr John Gwynne, consisted of 86 allotments, and went to auction on 3 March 1886. The second section, being bordered by Northfields Avenue, Gipps Rd and Murphy's Lane, was auctioned in 47 allotments by Mr William J Gwynne on 27 November 1886.It has an area of bush heritage land on its southern side, located in and around Wiseman Park. There are two schools, Gwynneville Public School and Saint Brigid's Primary School. A neighbourhood shopping centre is located at the eastern end of Gipps Road and includes a post office, petrol station and food shops. Also in the area is the Wiseman Park Bowling Club and the Beaton Park Leisure Centre, a major sporting and fitness venue for the city. Gwynneville is divided by the Princes Motorway and its interchange with Wollongong's Memorial Drive. However, being both centrally located and bordering the University of Wollongong to the north it remains a popular suburb for students seeking accommodation.

Wollongong Hospital is the major tertiary referral hospital located in the Wollongong Metropolitan area, New South Wales, Australia. It provides services to the entire Illawarra and Shoalhaven Region, encompassing population of approximately 350,000.Wollongong Hospital has the capacity to treat complex and specialist cases. It provides all medical specialties including 24/7 cardiac intervention, aged care, Pediatrics, and all surgical specialties except cardio-thoracic surgery. The emergency Department in Wollongong Hospital is also one of the busiest in New South Wales, with around 50000 case presentations annually.Wollongong Hospital is also the principal teaching hospital for Wollongong University Graduate School of Medicine and School of Nursing and Midwifery. The hospital is also closely affiliated with the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute, providing research opportunities to address regional health issues and to improve clinical practice and health service delivery in the region and beyond.The hospital is currently undergoing $100 million worth of capital works enchantments which include a new elective surgical center consisting of seven new operation theaters and 60 new surgical beds. Wollongong Hospital will also receive a new 24 bed Intensive Care Unit/ High Dependency Unit, along with a multi-deck car park to accommodate 600 additional car park spaces. The project is set to be completed in 2015.

Elouera House is a heritage-listed former nurses' home at Darling Street, Wollongong, City of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. It was designed by Cobden Parkes in his capacity as New South Wales Government Architect and built in 1937–39. It is also known as Wollongong Hospital Nurses Home and Eloura House. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

North Wollongong railway station is located on the South Coast railway line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the Northern Wollongong suburb of North Wollongong, opening on 19 July 1915. It is the primary station for the University of Wollongong.

The Wollongong Botanic Garden is located in the Wollongong suburb of Keiraville at the foot of Mount Keira in New South Wales, Australia. It is the local botanical gardens of the Illawarra and was established in 1964. It was opened in September 1970. The garden is co-located with the historic Gleniffer Brae house, used for functions and the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music. A number of annexes are managed by the garden - Puckeys Estate Reserve in Fairy Meadow, the Korrongulla Wetlands in Primbee and the Mount Keira Summit Park.

International House was the oldest residential college of the University of Wollongong, and is an affiliate of the 16 International Houses Worldwide. The establishment is now known as iHouse and provides accommodation to approximately 222 students who are attending the University of Wollongong.

SMART Infrastructure Facility (SMART) is a research institution in Wollongong, Australia. SMART is an acronym for "simulation, modelling, analysis, research and teaching". It opened in 2011 as Australia's first multi-disciplinary applied infrastructure research and training facility.

Keira High School (abbreviated as KHS) is a government-funded co-educational comprehensive secondary day school, located in Lysaght Street, North Wollongong, in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. Established in 1917 as the Wollongong Junior Secondary Technical School at a different location, the school enrolled approximately 900 students in 2018, from Year 7 to Year 12, of whom five percent identified as Indigenous Australians and forty percent were from a language background other than English. The school is operated by the New South Wales Department of Education.

The Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts is a government-funded co-educational comprehensive and specialist secondary day school with speciality in performing arts, located in Fairy Meadow, a suburb of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. Established in 1916, the school enrolled approximately 1,190 students in 2018, from Year 7 to Year 12, of whom five percent identified as Indigenous Australians and 25 per cent were from a language background other than English. The school is operated by the NSW Department of Education. Approximately one-third of students gain entry through auditions.

Smith's Hill High School, also known as Smiths Hill High School, is a government-funded co-educational academically selective secondary day school, located in Wollongong, in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. Established in 1916, the school enrolled approximately 730 students in 2018, from Year 7 to Year 12, of whom 32 percent were from a language background other than English. The school is operated by the NSW Department of Education; the principal is David Deitz.
