Our Lady of the Snows Parish Church

The Church of Our Lady of the Snows (Hungarian: Havas Boldogasszony-templom or Krisztinavárosi plébániatemplom) is a Roman Catholic parish church located in the Krisztinaváros neighborhood of Budapest, Hungary. It belongs to the Archdiocese of Esztergom–Budapest and stands on Krisztina tér in District I, on the Buda side of the city.

Krisztinaváros (English: Krisztina town) (German: Christinenstadt) is a neighborhood in central Budapest, situated just west of Castle Hill, north of Tabán. It is named after Archduchess Maria Christina, daughter of Maria Theresa, who interceded for buildings to be erected in this area. The history of Krisztinaváros is inseparable from that of the neighboring old Tabán, Naphegy and Gellérthegy.The central features are Krisztina tér and the entrance to the Castle Hill tunnel. It is also home to the Tabán Cinema, a small cinema that presents art films and documentaries. (Despite its name, this cinema belongs to Krisztinaváros, not Tabán.)

This organization is the legal successor to Magyar Távirati Iroda.

Archduke Joseph's Palace (Hungarian: József főhercegi palota) is a former royal residence located on Castle Hill (Várhegy) in Budapest, Hungary. It was located next to Buda Castle. Currently, it is being reconstructed as part of a revival programme of the Buda castle hill. The site was occupied before by the Teleki Palace. The building was the property of Archduke Joseph Karl of Austria, second son of Archduke Joseph of Austria (Palatine of Hungary).

The Church of the Assumption of the Buda Castle (Hungarian: Nagyboldogasszony-templom), more commonly known as the Matthias Church (Hungarian: Mátyás-templom), more rarely the Coronation Church of Buda, is a Roman Catholic church located in the Holy Trinity Square, Budapest, Hungary, in front of the Fisherman's Bastion at the heart of Buda's Castle District. According to church tradition, it was originally built in Romanesque style in 1015, although few references exist. The current building was constructed in the florid late Gothic style in the second half of the 14th century and was extensively restored in the late 19th century. It was the second largest church of medieval Buda and the seventh largest church of the medieval Hungarian Kingdom. It is a historic building with an important history. Two Kings of Hungary were crowned within its walls: Franz Joseph I of Hungary and Elisabeth, and Charles IV of Hungary and Zita of Bourbon-Parma.The church was also the location of the "Marian Miracle" of Buda. In 1686, during the siege of Buda city by the Holy League, a wall of the church - used as a mosque by the Ottoman occupiers of the city - collapsed due to cannon fire. It turned out that an old votive Madonna statue was hidden behind the wall. As the sculpture of the Virgin Mary appeared before the praying Muslims, the morale of the Muslim garrison collapsed and the city fell on the same day.

The siege of Buda (4 May – 21 August 1541) ended with the capture of the city of Buda, the historical capital of the Kingdom of Hungary, by the Ottoman Empire, leading to about 150 years of Ottoman rule in parts of Hungary. The siege, part of the Little War in Hungary, was one of the most important Ottoman victories over the Habsburg monarchy during Ottoman–Habsburg wars (16th to 18th century) in Hungary and the Balkans.
