Gibeon (ancient city)

Al Jib or al-Jib (Arabic: الجيب) is a Palestinian village in the Jerusalem Governorate of the State of Palestine, located ten kilometers northwest of Jerusalem, partially in the seam zone of the West Bank. The surrounding lands are home to Al Jib Bedouin. Since 1967, Al Jib has been occupied by Israel and about 90% of its lands are classified as Area C. About a quarter of the land is seized by Military Orders for the establishment of Israeli settlements. Al Jib's Al Khalayleh neighborhood was separated from the rest of the city by the West Bank barrier. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, Al Jib had a population of approximately 4,700 in 2006.

The Pool of Gibeon is a site in Gibeon mentioned a number of times in the Hebrew Bible. Archeological evidence locates the historical site of the pool in the village of Jib, in the West Bank Palestinian territories.

Ramathaim-Zophim (Hebrew: רמתיים־צופים), also called Ramah (רָמָה‎) and Ramatha in the Douay–Rheims Bible translation (Ramathaimsophim in the Vulgate), is a city from the Hebrew Bible, the home town and resting place of prophet Samuel. The name of the town means "the heights of the views."

An-Nabi Samwil, also called al-Nabi Samuil (Arabic: النبي صموئيل an-Nabi Samu'il, translit: "the prophet Samuel"), is a Palestinian village of nearly 220 inhabitants in the Quds Governorate of the State of Palestine, located in the West Bank (Area C), four kilometers north of Jerusalem. The village is built up around the Mosque of Nabi Samwil, containing the Tomb of Samuel; the village's Palestinian population has since been removed by the Israeli authorities from the village houses to a new location slightly down the hill. A tradition dating back to the Byzantine period places here the tomb of Prophet Samuel. In the 6th century, a monastery was built at the site in honor of Samuel, and during the early Arab period the place was known as Dir Samwil (the Samuel Monastery). In the 12th century, during the Crusader period, a fortress was built on the area. In the 14th century, during the Mameluk period, a mosque was built over the ruins of the Crusader fortress. The purported tomb itself is in an underground chamber of the mosque, which has been repurposed after 1967 as a synagogue, today with separate prayer areas for Jewish men and women.

Route 436 is a regional arterial road in Israel and the West Bank between Jerusalem and Givat Ze'ev. The southern portion begins as a major urban artery in Jerusalem's predominantly Hareidi neighborhoods leading to Highway 50 (Begin Boulevard), to Highway 1 and to the northern neighborhood of Ramot. Further north, the road runs alongside portions of Israel's West Bank Barrier as it approaches Givat Ze'ev. It crosses Route 443 to the Tel Aviv area and Highway 45 to Atarot and ends at the Beitunia section of the security barrier. The speed limit begins at 50 km/h along its urban section becoming 70 km/h as it passes through Ramot and then becoming 90 km/h as it leaves the Jerusalem municipality northwards. The road officially ends at the Beitunya cargo transfer terminal.

Bir Nabala (Arabic: بير نبالا; Hebrew: ביר נבאלא) is a Palestinian enclave town in the West Bank located eight kilometers northeast of Jerusalem. In mid-year 2006, it had an estimated population of 6,100 residents. Three Bedouin tribes — Abu Dhak, Tel al ‘Adassa and Jahalin — live in Bir Nabala. Bir Nabala has a built-up area of 1,904 dunams, which combined with nearby al-Jib, Beit Hanina al Balad and al-Judeira form an enclave in the Seam Zone, walled in by the Israeli West Bank barrier.The enclave as a whole is home to approximately 15,000 Palestinians. It is linked to Ramallah by underpasses and a road that is fenced on both sides. From the Biddu enclave, residents travel along a fenced road that passes under a bypass road to Bir Nabala enclave, then on a second underpass under Bypass Road 443 to Ramallah.Prior to the construction of the barrier, Bir Nabala was a commercial center linking Jenin and Tulkarm with the Jerusalem area and the town contained about 600 shops and six tyre factories. In 2007, there were 180 shops and two tyre factories.

Al-Judeira (Arabic: جديره) is a Palestinian village in the Jerusalem Governorate of the State of Palestine, in the central West Bank. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the town had a population of 2,121 in 2006.

Giv'at Ze'ev (Hebrew: גִּבְעַת זְאֵב) is an urban Israeli settlement in the West Bank, five kilometers northwest of Jerusalem. The settlement was founded in 1977 on the site of the abandoned Jordanian military camp, adjacent to the site of ancient Gibeon. While it lies within the borders of the Matte Binyamin Regional Council, it is a separate municipal entity. In 2021 it had a population of 20,034. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.

Highway 45 is the official designation of a 3.3 km stretch of road forming a continuous connection between Route 443 from the Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area and Highway 50 (Begin Boulevard) to central Jerusalem and a 1.4 km spur serving the Atarot Industrial Park.

On 10 February 2023, three Israelis were killed and four more were injured when a Palestinian man rammed his car into a bus stop in Ramot, an Israeli settlement in East Jerusalem. The assailant was shot dead at the scene by a police officer. The fatalities included two children aged 6 and 8 and a 20-year-old man. Police labeled the attack as an act of terrorism.

Rafat (Arabic: رافات) is a Palestinian town, located approximately 4 km (2.5 mi) southwest of the city of Ramallah in the central West Bank in the northern Jerusalem Governorate. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, it had a population of 2,941 in 2017. Its total land area consists of 3,773 dunams.

Giv'on HaHadashah (Hebrew: גִּבְעוֹן הַחֲדָשָׁה, lit. New Gibeon) is an Israel settlement in the West Bank, built over land expropriated from the neighboring Palestinian villages of Biddu, Beit Ijza, and Al Jib. It falls under the jurisdiction of Mateh Binyamin Regional Council. In 2021 it had a population of 1,020. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.
