Alphington, Victoria

The APM Siding was a 1.125-kilometre (0.7 mi) long private railway siding in the suburb of Alphington, Melbourne, Australia, that served the Australian Paper Manufacturers paper mill (later becoming the Amcor Fibre Packaging, before being closed in 2012). The siding branched from Fairfield station, on the Hurstbridge line, and ran south-east, passing through the intersection of Chandler Highway, Grange and Heidelberg Roads, and entering the factory.

Fulham Grange was a railway station on the Outer Circle located in the suburb of Alphington, Melbourne, Australia. Located near the Grange and Heidelberg Road intersection, it was a quarter mile (0.4 km) from Fairfield Park station. Opened to serve the speculative housing estate after which it was named, it was provided with 2 side platforms, one located on a loop to the north of the main line. The station was opened with the line on 24 March 1891, and closed with it on 12 April 1893. The line through it reopened on 29 July 1919, as part of the APM Siding, closing again in the 1990s.

The Fairfield Industrial Dog Object (FIDO) is a huge sculpture in hardwood of a canine in the inner northern Melbourne suburb of Fairfield, Victoria, Australia. It was part of the Darebin City Council's Public Art Program, and is located beside the Fairfield railway station.

Alphington Paper Mill, which was located in Alphington, Victoria, Australia, was constructed in two years for Australian Paper Manufacturers and opened in 1921, with the Boiler House added in 1954. In 2008, the plant was closed and in 2012, the property was sold to a consortium that planned to redevelop it into a residential area.

Darebin Creek Bridge is a bluestone masonry arch and concrete road bridge on Heidelberg road Alphington over Darebin Creek. It was built for Heidelberg Road Trust to a design of John C Climie CE and constructed by contractor O. H. Willison in 1864, to replace an earlier 1852 timber bridge which had fallen into a poor state of repair. The bridge was made possible as a result of funds obtained from a toll gate, established on the east side of the Darebin Creek by the Heidelberg Road Trust. The toll keeper was Henry Holloway, and the charges included one farthing for every pig that crossed the bridge and up to eighteen pence for a carriage with four horses.It was subsequently widened by the Country Roads Board (CRB) in 1937-8 probably to a design of W.A. (Allan) Ozanne. the bridge is one of the largest stone arch bridges in Victoria and among the oldest surviving bridges in Melbourne.

Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital, originally known as Queens Memorial Infectious Diseases Hospital, operated from 1904 to its closure in 1996. Perched high on the banks of the Yarra River at Yarra Bend in the inner Melbourne suburb of Fairfield, it developed an international reputation for the research and treatment of infectious diseases. When it closed, it was the last specific infectious diseases hospital in Australia. Initially the hospital was devoted to the treatment of patients with fevers. Diseases treated included typhoid, diphtheria, cholera, smallpox, poliomyelitis and scarlet fever, and in its final years, HIV/AIDS became very prominent.

Thomas Embling Hospital is a high-security forensic mental health hospital located in Fairfield, an inner Melbourne suburb in Victoria, Australia. The facility is operated by the Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health, known as Forensicare, who are responsible for providing adult forensic mental health services in Victoria.The hospital provides acute and continuing care for patients from the criminal justice system who are in need of psychiatric assessment, treatment or care (security or forensic patients) as well as patients from the Victorian public mental health system who need specialised management (compulsory patients). Purpose-built with 116 secure beds, the hospital opened in April 2000. The hospital is named after mental health reformer Dr Thomas Embling, who was appointed as Yarra Bend Asylum's first Resident Medical Officer.Patients are usually admitted from the criminal justice system, either via prison transfer or from a court order for psychiatric treatment.
