The Government of Amsterdam consists of several territorial and functional forms of local and regional government. The principal form of government is the municipality of Amsterdam, Netherlands. The municipality's territory covers the city of Amsterdam as well as a number of small towns. The city of Amsterdam is also part of several functional forms of regional government. These include the Waterschap (water board) of Amstel, Gooi en Vecht, which is responsible for water management, and the Stadsregio (City Region) of Amsterdam, which has responsibilities in the areas of spatial planning and public transport. The municipality of Amsterdam borders the municipalities of Diemen, Abcoude, Ouder-Amstel and Amstelveen in the south, Haarlemmermeer and Haarlemmerliede en Spaarnwoude in the west, and Zaanstad, Oostzaan, Landsmeer and Waterland in the north.

Morsink Icon Gallery (previously called Jan Morsink Ikonen) is an international gallery in Amsterdam specializing in Russian and Greek icons dating from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century. Huis Marseille, Museum for Photography is the oldest photography museum in Amsterdam, opened in 1999. Huis Marseille was the first photography museum in the Netherlands when it opened in 1999; the Nederlands Fotomuseum in Rotterdam, the Fotomuseum Den Haag in The Hague, and FOAM in a nearby building have opened since. The museum is housed in a residence built around 1665 for a French merchant, and contains 13 exhibition spaces and a restored room in Louis XIV style; the building was restored and the museum extended into the adjacent building in 2007–2013.Exhibitions generally use the entire space and have mostly featured documentary photography. They have included Rob Hornstra's Sochi Project, photographs of Kyoto by Jacqueline Hassink, Sarkis' Ring Portraits, work by Juul Kraijer, and various photographers' works portraying dance.

Auberge was a restaurant in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in 1980 and 1981.Head chef of Auberge was John Halvemaan.John Halvemaan and his wife Esther (as restaurant-manager) opened the restaurant in 1976. It was closed down in 1981, due to problems with the rent.

The Leidsepoort is a former landmark city gate in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, formerly located at what today is the Leidseplein. It was built in 1664 after a design by the city architect Daniël Stalpaert in 1664. It was torn down for traffic purposes in 1862.

Leidseplein (English: Leiden Square) is a square in central Amsterdam, Netherlands. It lies in the Weteringschans neighborhood (Centrum borough), immediately northeast of the Singelgracht. It is located on the crossroads of the Weteringschans, Marnixstraat and Leidsestraat.

The Sugarfactory was a music venue and night club in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was located on the Lijnbaansgracht, near the Leidseplein in the centre of Amsterdam.

The Passeerdersgracht is a short canal in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, that connects the Prinsengracht with the Lijnbaansgracht. The canal is the southernmost in the Jordaan neighbourhood and borders the west part of the Grachtengordel (Canal District).

In the evening of 6 July 2021, Dutch investigative journalist and crime reporter Peter R. de Vries was shot in the head after leaving the television studio of RTL Boulevard in Amsterdam where he had appeared as a guest. Several bullets were fired at him in the Lange Leidsedwarsstraat, near the Leidseplein, while he was walking to his car. He was taken to the VU University Medical Center in critical condition. The hospital came under heavy police protection that same evening. De Vries died of his injuries on 15 July 2021.

Against the Tide (Dutch: Tegen alle stromen in), sometimes referred to by its more literal translation as Against All Currents, by Rini Hurkmans, is a memorial sculpture honoring murdered Dutch journalist Peter R. de Vries who was shot on July 6, 2021, and died on July 15, 2021. It was unveiled on July 15, 2024. The sculpture is located in Leidseplein, which is a square in central Amsterdam, Netherlands. De Vries was the third person slain in connection to the Marengo trial. The unveiling took place exactly three years after his death and just months after De Vries' shooter and several collaborators were sentenced. The sculpture is located just meters from Lange Leidsedwarsstraat, where the shooting took place. The unveiling was presided by Femke Halsema, Mayor of Amsterdam and included four people who had been helped by de Vries' journalistic efforts. Hurkmans was inspired by a hand gesture in Pietà by the Virgin Mary who was cradling the lifeless body of her son, Jesus. During the unveiling, his daughter, Kelly de Vries, noted that the sculpture symbolized her father by connecting those who engage with it to the rules her father lived by. The sculpture bears the words "be who you are, stand up for minorities and the less fortunate, speak your mind honestly, and listen to your sense of justice." in 41 languages. The quote came from messages de Vries has relayed to his two children. The creation of the sculpture is the subject of a Dutch language documentary film by Nederlandse Publieke Omroep, the Dutch Foundation for Public Broadcasting.

Rotown is a music venue and a bar-restaurant in Rotterdam, Netherlands. It is located close to the city centre, on the Nieuwe Binnenweg. It is housed in a former Chinese restaurant and has been, although a small one, Rotterdam's main venue for rock and indie music concerts after the demise of Nighttown.

Melkweg (Dutch for "Milky Way") is a popular music venue and cultural centre in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is located on Lijnbaansgracht, near Leidseplein, a prime nightlife square of Amsterdam. It is housed in a former dairy and is divided into a number of spaces of varying sizes. Besides four halls for varying genres of music concerts, the venue houses a cinema, a restaurant and an exhibition space. Melkweg is run by a nonprofit organisation founded in 1970.
