East Foothills is a census-designated place (CDP) in Santa Clara County, California, United States and a neighborhood of San Jose. The population was 8,269 at the 2010 census and it is located about 4 miles east of downtown San Jose.

Alum Rock () is a district of San Jose, California, located in East San Jose. Formerly an independent town, it has been a neighborhood of San Jose since the 1950s, though some portions are still unincorporated as a census-designated place. Alum Rock is one of San Jose's most notable and historic Chicano/Mexican-American districts. It is home to Alum Rock Park, the oldest municipal park in California and one of the largest in the country.

James Lick High School is a public high school in San Jose, California, US, located in the Alum Rock district of East San Jose. The school is part of the East Side Union High School District.

Alum Rock Airport was an early airport in the former town of Alum Rock, now within the city limits of San Jose, California, near the intersection of Alum Rock Avenue and Capitol Avenue. The airport was established in 1919 by Reserve Lieutenant Johnny Johnston after returning from World War I. Much of the early aerial photography of the then-rural Santa Clara Valley was taken on flights from the Alum Rock Airport.A 1936 edition of the federal Airport Facility Directory (A/FD) described the Alum Rock Airport as having one runway of 1,800 feet (550 m), a hangar with "San Jose" painted on the roof (to help pilots navigate), and facilities to service aircraft.The events in the decline of the airport are not clearly documented. A lawsuit by neighbors in 1928 eventually led to relocation of the operation. Johnston was killed in a crash of an air mail flight in 1932 at age 34. The airport was still listed as existing in the Alum Rock location in the 1936 A/FD.Today reminders of the airport are visible in suburban city streets of San Jose's Alum Rock district. A minor residential street called Pala Avenue is located approximately at the original runway. The oddly-named cross streets, Avenues A, B and C, are believed to be named for lettered airport Taxiways A, B and C upon which they were constructed.Air transportation for that vicinity today is served by Reid–Hillview Airport, established in 1937, and San Jose International Airport, established as San Jose Municipal Airport in 1945.

The National Hispanic University (NHU) was a small, private university located in San Jose, California, founded by Stanford-educated Dr. B. Roberto Cruz. National Hispanic University ceased operations on August 23, 2015. It was the first four-year Latino university in the United States. NHU's vision was to foster "a caring learning environment where students have felt valued and supported at every step in their academic journey. Embracing diversity and multiple perspectives as guiding principles."

McKee is a light rail station operated by Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA). This station is served by VTA's Orange Line. The station was opened on June 24, 2004, as part of VTA's Capitol light rail extension.

Alum Rock Transit Center (or simply Alum Rock Station) is an at-grade intermodal transit center located at the intersection of South Capitol Avenue and Nuestra Castillo Court in the Alum Rock district of San Jose, California. The light rail station is located in the center median of South Capitol Avenue and is the current eastern terminus for the Orange Line of the VTA light rail system. VTA buses serve the transit center both on South Capitol Avenue and in a nearby bus plaza located adjacent to the light rail station. The transit center is the transfer point between the Orange Line and VTA's Rapid 522 bus rapid transit route which offers service south to the Eastridge Transit Center or west to Downtown San Jose, San Jose Diridon station, and the Palo Alto Transit Center.

The Messina Orchard is a historic orchard, located in San Jose, California, US. The 4.96 acres (2.01 ha) tract of land has two residences associated with the Messina family. It holds significance in the realm of agriculture for its connection to the agricultural growth of the Santa Clara Valley, as well as for its architectural value due to the presence of two period-revival family homes. The Messina Orchard was officially recognized and listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 9, 2018.

Rancho Pala was a 4,454-acre (18.02 km2) Mexican land grant in present day Santa Clara County, California given in 1835 by Governor José Castro to José Joaquín Higuera. The origin of the name is the subject of debate. The word "pala" translates as "shovel" in Spanish, but means "water", in many native American dialects. The grant was a narrow strip of land east of San Jose, and extending southward along the foothills from Penitencia Creek to Norwood Avenue.

Story station is a planned Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) light rail station in San Jose, California. It is proposed as an elevated station located on Capitol Expressway at Story Road. The VTA light rail Orange Line is planned to be extended to the Eastridge Transit Center from its current terminus at the Alum Rock Transit Center, with Story station being the intermediate stop. This is part of the Eastridge to BART Regional Connector Project. The extension would offer rail connection to the Milpitas Transit Center and the Mountain View Transit Center, providing access to Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and Caltrain. After utility relocation for the project is complete in September 2022, construction would commence in fall 2023 and revenue service is expected to begin in 2029.
