The Universidad Científica del Sur or Scientific University of the South (UCSUR) is a private institution of higher education, located at 19 km south from the city of Lima, nearby Pantanos de Villa Reserved Zone. The university was founded and recognized in 1997 by education representatives, led by José Carlos Dextre. It started activities by offering Medicine and Systems Engineering programmes. Their curriculum was characterized by personalized education and early introduction to the career. The university had presented an important growth in population and in academic offer. Today, it has 18 bachelor and 13 master's degrees programmes, as well as several specialization courses.

Chorrillos is a city and middle-class suburb of Lima, the capital city of Peru. Chorrillos has a hot desert climate (BWh) according to the Köppen climate classification and two of Lima's most popular public beaches called Agua Dulce and La Herradura, therefore since its establishment from a village beach resort in 1824, to a town in 1856, to a city in 1901, it became one of Lima's most popular tourist destinations, along with its district. However, along with the rest of Lima, Chorrillos is prone to natural disasters, especially earthquakes: for example, in 1940, Chorrillos received a major earthquake that rendered enormous damages to some of Chorrillos' private clubs and infrastructures, and a military history, when during the War of the Pacific, it was sacked and burned by Chilean Forces; along with this, Chorrillos also contains Peru's national military school.

The Officers' School of the National Police of Peru (Spanish: Escuela de Oficiales de la Policía Nacional del Perú "Mariano Santos Mateo", EOPNP) is a police academy in charge of training law enforcement recruits in Peru. It is based in the Chorrillos District of Lima, and is considered the alma mater of the police officers of the country. Training at the school is carried out for 5 years, with the first year of education being carried out as an aspiring cadet and the remaining 4 years as a cadet. The school's stated mission is to train cadres of police officers with the level of university higher education, recognized by law. It plans, organizes, directs; coordinates; permanently executes and evaluates educational activities, aimed at imparting humanistic knowledge and police science, as well as developing skills, abilities and attitudes necessary for the efficient performance of the police function within the legal and disciplinary framework; ethical; and institutional values. Currently, by Legislative Decree No. 1318 of January 3, 2017, the Officers' School is part of the National Police Professional Training School (Spanish: Escuela Nacional de Formación Profesional Policial).

On January 23, 2020, a gas leak from a truck transporting liquefied petroleum gas caused an explosion in Villa El Salvador, Lima metropolitan area, Peru. The subsequent fires affected at least 20 homes and several vehicles.

Chorrillos is a district of the Lima Province in Peru and part of the city of Lima. It gets its name from the Spanish word for "trickle of water". The district was founded as San Pedro de los Chorrillos and served as a deluxe beach resort until the late 19th century, when it was almost completely destroyed by Chilean forces during the War of the Pacific. The current mayor of Chorrilos is Augusto Miyashiro Ushikobo.

Morro Solar (morro in Spanish means: a rounded promontory) is a headland, situated in the district of Chorrillos, to the south of Lima, Peru.: 3, 842  Morro Solar is notable for being a site of the Battle of San Juan and Chorrillos between Peruvian and Chilean forces in 1881. Notable landmarks include an astronomical observatory and a monument to an unknown soldier. Its geological formations are rich in silver which is being extracted by several mining companies.

The Battle of San Juan, also known as the Battle of San Juan and Chorrillos, was the first of two battles in the Lima Campaign during the War of the Pacific, and was fought on 13 January 1881. This battle is really a group of smaller, yet fierce confrontations at the defensive strongholds of Villa, Chorrillos, Santiago de Surco, San Juan de Miraflores, Santa Teresa and Morro Solar. The Chilean army led by Gen. Manuel Baquedano inflicted a harsh defeat on the Peruvian army commanded by the Supreme Chief Nicolás de Piérola. The Chilean triumph eliminated the first defensive line guarding Lima, and almost obliterated the Peruvian army defending it. At the end of the battle, the town of Chorrillos was burnt to the ground by the Chilean army trying to eradicate the Peruvian defenders garrisoned there. During the night, civilian abuses were committed by drunk soldiers. Despite this result, another battle had to be fought in order that the Chilean army could enter the Peruvian capital city at Miraflores, two days later.

It was inaugurated on 28 April 1990 as part of the first section of the line between Villa El Salvador and Atocongo. However, commercial service only started on 18 January 2003, was suspended in July 2003 due to the lack of funds and resumed only on Saturdays and Sundays on 17 January 2004. The full revenue service started on 3 January 2012, with trains running to Miguel Grau.

It was inaugurated on 28 April 1990 as part of the first section of the line between Villa El Salvador and Atocongo. However, commercial service only started on 18 January 2003, was suspended in July 2003 due to the lack of funds, and resumed only on Saturdays and Sundays on 17 January 2004. The full revenue service started on 3 January 2012, with trains running to Miguel Grau.

Cristo del Pacífico, "the Christ of the Pacific", is a 37-metre-high (121 ft) statue of Jesus erected in Lima, Peru, in 2011. Its erection was a gift from a consortium of Brazilian companies to the city of Lima, under former President Alan García, and described as a parting gift to the nation on occasion of his leaving office after the 2011 presidential election. It was inspired by the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro.
