Chorrillos District

Morro Solar (morro in Spanish means: a rounded promontory) is a headland, situated in the district of Chorrillos, to the south of Lima, Peru.: 3, 842  Morro Solar is notable for being a site of the Battle of San Juan and Chorrillos between Peruvian and Chilean forces in 1881. Notable landmarks include an astronomical observatory and a monument to an unknown soldier. Its geological formations are rich in silver which is being extracted by several mining companies.

Chorrillos is a city and middle-class suburb of Lima, the capital city of Peru. Chorrillos has a hot desert climate (BWh) according to the Köppen climate classification and two of Lima's most popular public beaches called Agua Dulce and La Herradura, therefore since its establishment from a village beach resort in 1824, to a town in 1856, to a city in 1901, it became one of Lima's most popular tourist destinations, along with its district. However, along with the rest of Lima, Chorrillos is prone to natural disasters, especially earthquakes: for example, in 1940, Chorrillos received a major earthquake that rendered enormous damages to some of Chorrillos' private clubs and infrastructures, and a military history, when during the War of the Pacific, it was sacked and burned by Chilean Forces; along with this, Chorrillos also contains Peru's national military school.

Cristo del Pacífico, "the Christ of the Pacific", is a 37-metre-high (121 ft) statue of Jesus erected in Lima, Peru, in 2011. Its erection was a gift from a consortium of Brazilian companies to the city of Lima, under former President Alan García, and described as a parting gift to the nation on occasion of his leaving office after the 2011 presidential election. It was inspired by the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro.

The Monument to the Unknown Soldier is a memorial located on a plain on the slopes of the northern side of Morro Solar in the district of Chorrillos, in Lima, Peru. It is dedicated to those killed during the War of the Pacific.

La Herradura is a beach located in the Chorrillos District of Lima, Peru. It has been used as a balneario since the beginning of the 20th century and for surfing since the 1960s. Until the 1980s it was one of the most popular beaches in Lima, visited especially by the city's wealthy families. The construction of the road to La Chira beach changed the configuration of the beach and the shore, which was previously sandy, was filled with stones. Since December 28, 2016, La Herradura has been part of the National Reef Registry (RENARO), a registry of protected waves in the country covered by the law on the preservation of reefs appropriate for sports (law no. 27280).

José Castro Mendivil Digital Planetarium (Spanish: Planetario Digital José Castro Mendivil), also known simply as the Morro Solar Planetarium (Spanish: Planetario del Morro Solar), is a planetarium and site museum dedicated to astronomy in the Morro Solar of Chorrillos District, Lima, Peru. It is named after the engineer who designed it. It is administered by the Peruvian Astronomy Association (Spanish: Asociación Peruana de Astronomía, APA), founded on August 15, 1946, and then headed by Peruvian astronomer Víctor Estremadoyro Robles. Besides its 360° theatre, it also features remnants of the Battle of San Juan during the War of the Pacific.

The Chorrillos Military School (Spanish: Escuela Militar de Chorrillos) is the institution in charge of the undergraduate education of officers of the Peruvian Army.

The Officers' School of the National Police of Peru (Spanish: Escuela de Oficiales de la Policía Nacional del Perú "Mariano Santos Mateo", EOPNP) is a police academy in charge of training law enforcement recruits in Peru. It is based in the Chorrillos District of Lima, and is considered the alma mater of the police officers of the country. Training at the school is carried out for 5 years, with the first year of education being carried out as an aspiring cadet and the remaining 4 years as a cadet. The school's stated mission is to train cadres of police officers with the level of university higher education, recognized by law. It plans, organizes, directs; coordinates; permanently executes and evaluates educational activities, aimed at imparting humanistic knowledge and police science, as well as developing skills, abilities and attitudes necessary for the efficient performance of the police function within the legal and disciplinary framework; ethical; and institutional values. Currently, by Legislative Decree No. 1318 of January 3, 2017, the Officers' School is part of the National Police Professional Training School (Spanish: Escuela Nacional de Formación Profesional Policial).

Las Palmas Air Base is a military airport in Santiago de Surco District, city of Lima, Peru. It is administered by the Peruvian Air Force (abbreviated FAP), one of three branches of the Peruvian Armed Forces. The United States Air Force began operations there on June 1, 2023. The runway length does not include a 150 metres (490 ft) displaced threshold on Runway 02. The Lima VOR-DME (Ident: LIM) is 11.7 nautical miles (21.7 km) northwest of the runway.

Santiago de Surco, commonly known simply as Surco, is a district of Lima, Peru. It is bordered on the north with the district of Ate Vitarte and La Molina; on the east with San Juan de Miraflores, on the west with San Borja, Surquillo, Miraflores and Barranco, and on the south with Chorrillos. Due to its relatively large area, it is a very heterogeneous district, having inhabitants belonging to all socio-economic levels. The northern parts of Santiago de Surco, which are close to the districts of La Molina and San Borja, are known as Monterrico and Chacarilla, and considerably more developed than the southern side of the district, having more upper-class housing and all four major shopping centers of the district.

The Hermitage of Barranco (Spanish: Ermita de Barranco), formerly known as the Templo de la Santísima Cruz and later as Santísima Cruz de Barranco, is a Catholic church building in Barranco District, Lima, Peru. It is located in the district's historic centre and once served as the district's capital and cathedral, next to the Bridge of Sighs, and has been closed since 1974 due to the damages caused by that year's earthquake.The Plazuela Chabuca Granda, named after the Peruvian singer who dedicated a song to the bridge, serves as the main public area outside the church and features two statues by sculptor Fausto Jaulis dedicated to Granda and José Antonio de Lavalle y García, the subject of another song of hers.
