Spencer-Sharples Local School District was a small, impoverished district about six miles (10 km) west of Toledo, Ohio. Through a unique act of the Ohio General Assembly, Spencer-Sharples was absorbed into the non-contiguous Toledo Public Schools on Jan. 1, 1968.

On October 29, 1960, a Curtiss C-46 passenger aircraft crashed shortly after take-off near Toledo, Ohio. The aircraft, a veteran of World War II, was carrying the Cal Poly Mustangs team of college football to a game against Bowling Green State University. Of the 48 on board, 22 were killed, including both pilots, 16 players, a student manager, and a Cal Poly football booster.

Toledo Express Airport, officially Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport (IATA: TOL, ICAO: KTOL, FAA LID: TOL), is a civil-military airport in Swanton and Monclova townships 10 mi (16 km) west of Toledo in western Lucas County, Ohio, United States. It opened in 1954–55 as a replacement to the Toledo Municipal Airport (now Toledo Executive Airport) southeast of Toledo. Toledo Express is near the crossing of State Route 2 and the Ohio Turnpike (Interstate 80/Interstate 90, exit 52). TOL is used by passenger and cargo airlines, general aviation, and is home to the Ohio Air National Guard's 180th Fighter Wing. The airport is a secondary airport for Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) and the surrounding region, including as a primary diversion point for DTW. The airport is operated by the Toledo–Lucas County Port Authority on a lease agreement from the City of Toledo. The airport also serves as headquarters and ground cargo hub for BX Solutions. Through the 1980s and 1990s the airport saw considerable airline service with as many as seven airlines at any given time operating over 40 flights per day to fourteen destinations. Traffic peaked in 1997 then began a downfall as many passengers began driving to nearby Detroit Metropolitan Airport, a major hub airport. By 2011 all but two airlines had discontinued service. Traffic bottomed out in 2012 then began a slow growth. In 2015 Toledo Express recorded its third straight year of passenger growth, reaching 179,911.In 2018, buoyed by growing service to and from Charlotte, air travel through Toledo Express Airport increased by more than 22 percent for its sixth straight year of growth. Total passenger service reached 241,299 passengers in 2018. The airport was officially renamed to honor retired NASA flight director and Toledo native Gene Kranz in September 2020.

Air Transport International Flight 805 was a regularly scheduled domestic cargo flight from Seattle to Toledo operated by Burlington Air Express. On February 15, 1992, the Douglas DC-8 operating the flight crashed during a second go-around attempt at Toledo Express Airport, killing all four people on board. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) determined that the accident was caused by pilot error due to the aircraft's control not being maintained.

The superintendent is Chris Lake, and the current board of education consists of Kris Oberheim – (president), Ben Remer (vice president), David Smith and John Schaller.

Oak Openings Preserve Metropark is a nature preserve located in Swanton Township, Ohio, owned and operated by Metroparks Toledo. Most of the park is an oak savanna ecosystem, characterized by alternating wetland and vegetated dunes.The park hosts the Beuhner Center, an interactive nature center. There are over fifty miles of trails in Oak Openings Preserve.The park gets its name from the region in which it is located. Oak Openings Preserve lies within the larger Oak Openings Region. The region hosts over 180 rare species of plants and animals. This is over one-third of all rare species found in the state of Ohio.According to The Nature Conservancy, the Oak Openings Region is one of the 200 "Last Great Places on Earth".

Swanton High School is a public high school in Swanton, Ohio, USA. It is the only high school in the Swanton Local School District.

WJUC ("The Juice") is a commercial urban contemporary music radio station in Swanton, Ohio, broadcasting to the Toledo area on 107.3 FM. The station's studios are located in Toledo, and its transmitter is located north of Swanton. WJUC is the Toledo area affiliate of The Chubb Rock Show, Tisha Lee in the Midday, The Jeff Foxx Show, and Love and R&B With Al B. Sure!. WJUC, which began broadcasting in 1997, was the first African-American owned-and-operated radio station in the Toledo market and is one of the few radio stations in the area that is still locally owned and operated. "The Juice" began as a station playing a wide variety of musical styles appealing to African-American listeners, including rap, soul oldies, gospel music, and blues. Today, the station's playlist consists almost exclusively of R&B and urban contemporary hits, aside from a Sunday-morning gospel music program. Connecting to Community and Hometown Live are part of the Saturday Morning Juice, a community engagement show that consists of interviews and community topics. WJUC is the brainchild of Charles "Charlie Chuck" Welch, a former disc jockey at the now-defunct WKLR-FM (now WKKO). WJUC primarily competes with Urban Radio Broadcasting's WIMX (Mix 95.7) for the ears of urban AC listeners in Toledo. The Juice's ratings have fallen in recent years due to competition, which is now usually the higher-rated (12+) of the two stations. WJUC also suffers from a signal that becomes scratchy in the eastern portion of the Toledo metro area and under certain weather conditions is sometimes swamped by co-channel interference from WNWV in Elyria, Ohio, although the station continues to enjoy respectable ratings despite its limited reach. This is due to the station’s reputation as the “hometown” station that engages the community. The most recent endeavor of WJUC is a partnership with aMAYSing Kids Broadcasting and Media Mentorship Program, a 501(c)3 reading literacy program created by longtime WJUC radio personality Tisha Lee-Mays and husband Dante Mays. The program works to improve reading through teaching broadcasting fundamentals. Effective May 25, 2017, Welch Communications assigned the license for WJUC to Fleming Street Communications, Inc., a corporation controlled by Charles Welch's children. Welch’s daughter, Debra Hogan serves as President of Fleming Street Communications.
