Toledo Express Airport

On October 29, 1960, a Curtiss C-46 passenger aircraft crashed shortly after take-off near Toledo, Ohio. The aircraft, a veteran of World War II, was carrying the Cal Poly Mustangs team of college football to a game against Bowling Green State University. Of the 48 on board, 22 were killed, including both pilots, 16 players, a student manager, and a Cal Poly football booster.

On February 15, 1992, the Douglas DC-8 operating the flight crashed during a second go-around attempt at Toledo Express Airport, killing all four people on board. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) determined that the accident was caused by pilot error due to the aircraft's control not being maintained.

Most of the park is an oak savanna ecosystem, characterized by alternating wetland and vegetated dunes.The park hosts the Beuhner Center, an interactive nature center. There are over fifty miles of trails in Oak Openings Preserve.The park gets its name from the region in which it is located. Oak Openings Preserve lies within the larger Oak Openings Region. The region hosts over 180 rare species of plants and animals. This is over one-third of all rare species found in the state of Ohio.According to The Nature Conservancy, the Oak Openings Region is one of the 200 "Last Great Places on Earth".

Anthony Wayne High School is a public high school in Whitehouse, Ohio, a suburb of Toledo. The school has an enrollment of approximately 1,330 students in grades 9–12 as of 2019–20. The school is named for General Anthony Wayne, who led troops in the nearby Battle of Fallen Timbers during the Northwest Indian War. The Anthony Wayne High School was established in 1951. It is the consolidation of Monclova, Waterville, and Whitehouse Schools. The school was featured in the 2010 MTV reality series If You Really Knew Me.
