South Para River

The North Para River is a river located in the Barossa Valley of the Australian state of South Australia. The river's name is based directly on the Kaurna word pari which means river. The "north" descriptor distinguishes it from the South Para River with which it merges.

The Town of Gawler is a local government area located north of Adelaide city centre in South Australia containing Gawler and its suburbs. The corporate town was established in 1857 due to the township's residents' dissatisfaction at being governed by three different district councils. The Town of Gawler is located within the officially declared boundaries of the Adelaide metropolitan area. As of 2001 1.0% of the population were Indigenous Australian, and 76.3% were born in Australia. The current mayor of Gawler is Karen Redman (elected November 2014), the first elected female mayor in the town's history.

Gawler is the oldest country town on the Australian mainland in the state of South Australia. It was named after the second Governor (British Vice-Regal representative) of the colony of South Australia, George Gawler. It is about 40–44 km (25–27 mi) north of the centre of the state capital, Adelaide, and is close to the major wine producing district of the Barossa Valley. Topographically, Gawler lies at the confluence of two tributaries of the Gawler River, the North and South Para rivers, where they emerge from a range of low hills. Historically a semi-rural area, Gawler has been swept up in Adelaide's growth in recent years, and is now considered by some as an outer northern suburb of Adelaide. It is counted as a suburb in the Outer Metro region of the Greater Adelaide Planning Region.

Gawler was an electoral district of the House of Assembly in the Australian state of South Australia from 1938 to 1970.The polling places in the Electorate of Gawler for the 1938 were Cockatoo Valley, Gawler, Gawler Blocks, Gawler South, Loos, Lyndoch, One Tree Hill, Rosedale, Roseworthy, Rowland's Flat, Smithfield, Wasleys, Willaston and Williamstown.Gawler was abolished in a boundary redistribution in 1970, John Clark represented the newly created district of Electoral district of Elizabeth from 1970.The town of Gawler is currently represented by the seat of Light.

Gawler Central railway station is the terminus station of the Gawler line. Situated in the South Australian town of Gawler, it is 42.2 kilometres (26.2 mi) from Adelaide station.

Willaston is a northern suburb 39 kilometres (24 mi) northeast of the Adelaide city centre in South Australia. It is located in the Town of Gawler.

Gawler South is a suburb of the South Australian town of Gawler, located in the northern Adelaide metropolitan area region, 43 km north of Adelaide. It is bordered by the South Para River and the suburbs of Gawler, Gawler West, Evanston, Evanston Park and Bibaringa.

Gawler railway station is located on the Gawler line. Situated in the South Australian town of Gawler, it is 39.8 kilometres (24.7 mi) from Adelaide station.

Gawler East is a northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia in the Town of Gawler. It is on the rising ground of the Adelaide Hills east of the town of Gawler. Some parts of the suburb date from as early as the settlement of Gawler. Other parts including newer housing estates up to still being developed in the 2010s. Gawler East has private and public primary schools. It is also the site of the Gawler Hospital and an aged care facility. Gawler East is bounded on the northern side by the Barossa Valley railway line and traversed by the Barossa Valley Way (known locally as Lyndoch Road) and Calton Road both providing access from the higher land down to the town of Gawler. There is also proposed to be a new road built from Gawler East to Evanston Park, bypassing the Gawler town centre and providing a new bridge across the South Para River gorge.

Gawler West, (postcode 5118) is a suburb of the South Australian town of Gawler, located in the northern Adelaide metropolitan area region, 43 km north of Adelaide. It is bordered by the Gawler River and the Gawler railway line and the suburbs of Gawler South, and Evanston. During the 2000s period, part of the suburb was renamed Reid by the South Australian Geographical Names Advisory Committee, replacing the Gawler Bypass Road as the western boundary by the Gawler River on the west and north.

Gawler Racecourse railway station is located on the Gawler line. Situated in the northern Adelaide suburb of Evanston, it is 39.3 kilometres (24.4 mi) from Adelaide station.
