Gawler railway station

Gawler Racecourse railway station is located on the Gawler line. Situated in the northern Adelaide suburb of Evanston, it is 39.3 kilometres (24.4 mi) from Adelaide station.

Gawler West, (postcode 5118) is a suburb of the South Australian town of Gawler, located in the northern Adelaide metropolitan area region, 43 km north of Adelaide. It is bordered by the Gawler River and the Gawler railway line and the suburbs of Gawler South, and Evanston. During the 2000s period, part of the suburb was renamed Reid by the South Australian Geographical Names Advisory Committee, replacing the Gawler Bypass Road as the western boundary by the Gawler River on the west and north.

Evanston, formerly Evans Town, is a suburb south of the town of Gawler, South Australia. It contains the Gawler and District College and Gawler Racecourse as well as a supermarket and homemaker centre containing bulky goods stores such as carpet, fishing, electrical and bike and motorbike shops.

Gawler and District College is a public early learning centre and primary and secondary school located in the suburb of Evanston on the southern side of Gawler, 45 kilometres (28 mi) north of the city centre of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. The college offers education from birth to year 12.

Gawler is the oldest country town on the Australian mainland in the state of South Australia. It was named after the second Governor (British Vice-Regal representative) of the colony of South Australia, George Gawler. It is about 40–44 km (25–27 mi) north of the centre of the state capital, Adelaide, and is close to the major wine producing district of the Barossa Valley. Topographically, Gawler lies at the confluence of two tributaries of the Gawler River, the North and South Para rivers, where they emerge from a range of low hills. Historically a semi-rural area, Gawler has been swept up in Adelaide's growth in recent years, and is now considered by some as an outer northern suburb of Adelaide. It is counted as a suburb in the Outer Metro region of the Greater Adelaide Planning Region.

Gawler was an electoral district of the House of Assembly in the Australian state of South Australia from 1938 to 1970.The polling places in the Electorate of Gawler for the 1938 were Cockatoo Valley, Gawler, Gawler Blocks, Gawler South, Loos, Lyndoch, One Tree Hill, Rosedale, Roseworthy, Rowland's Flat, Smithfield, Wasleys, Willaston and Williamstown.Gawler was abolished in a boundary redistribution in 1970, John Clark represented the newly created district of Electoral district of Elizabeth from 1970.The town of Gawler is currently represented by the seat of Light.

Reid is a northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia in the Town of Gawler. It is a sliver of land bounded by the Gawler bypass road, the Gawler River, and the Gawler-Roseworthy railway line. Reid was excised from Gawler West in 2004 in response to a petition by residents who felt that a different name would make it easier to find their area. It is named after a Mr Reid who was an early landholder in the area.

The corporate town was established in 1857 due to the township's residents' dissatisfaction at being governed by three different district councils. The Town of Gawler is located within the officially declared boundaries of the Adelaide metropolitan area. As of 2001 1.0% of the population were Indigenous Australian, and 76.3% were born in Australia. The current mayor of Gawler is Karen Redman (elected November 2014), the first elected female mayor in the town's history.
