It lies along Oregon Route 234 northeast of Gold Hill, in the Medford area.Originally named "Moonville", the community takes its name from a valley that was named after Chief Sam of the Rogue River tribe of Native Americans. Sams Valley had its own post office from 1873 until 1953. Today, the communities of Beagle, Antioch, and Table Rock are all considered part of Sams Valley.

Dardanelles is an unincorporated community in Jackson County, Oregon, United States. It lies opposite the city of Gold Hill on the south side of the Rogue River. Interstate 5 and Oregon Route 99 pass by Gold Hill and Dardanelles.William G. T'Vault, who founded the community in the 1850s, chose the name apparently because the river here runs through a narrow stretch between hills and may have reminded him of the Dardanelles between Asia and Europe. T'Vault was the first postmaster of a post office established here in 1852 and which operated intermittently until 1878. Although a place of importance in early Oregon, little of the community remains. Author Ralph Friedman says in In Search of Western Oregon, "Today most people in Gold Hill know of Dardanelles only because a [local] service station bears that name."

The Oregon Vortex is a roadside attraction that opened to tourists in 1930, located on Sardine Creek in Gold Hill, Oregon, in the United States. It consists of a number of interesting effects, which are gravity hill optical illusions, but which the attraction's proprietors propose are the result of paranormal properties of the area.

Galls Creek is a stream in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is a tributary to the Rogue River. Galls Creek was named in the 1850s after one Jacob Gall.

Fort Lane Military Post was a U.S. Army fort in Jackson County in southern Oregon built in the fall of 1853. The Fort was occupied by several companies of the 1st Regiment of U.S. Dragoons during the Rogue River War. Its site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

Bear Creek is the name of a stream located entirely within Jackson County, Oregon. The stream drains approximately 400 square miles (1,000 km2) of the Rogue Valley and discharges an annual average of 114 cubic feet per second (3.2 m3/s) into the Rogue River. It begins near Emigrant Lake and travels 28.8 miles (46.3 km) through the municipalities of Ashland, Talent, Phoenix, Medford, and Central Point.
