Richmond Ward

Waimea County was one of the counties of New Zealand on the South Island. During the period 1853 to 1876, the area that would become Waimea County was administered as part of Nelson Province. With the Abolition of Provinces Act 1876, Waimea County was created, taking over administration of its area in January 1877. The county council's administrative headquarters was located in Richmond. Waimea County existed until the 1989 local government reforms, when the Tasman District was formed through the amalgamation of the Waimea County, Golden Bay County, Murchison County and Richmond Borough administrative areas.

Richmond (Māori: Waimea) is a town and the seat of the Tasman District Council in New Zealand. It lies 13 kilometres (8 mi) south of Nelson in the South Island, close to the southern extremity of Tasman Bay. The town, first settled by Europeans in 1842, was named in 1854 after the town of Richmond on Thames near London. The town has an estimated population of 19,200 as of June 2023.Although most of Richmond lies outside the boundaries of Nelson City and the town is considered a separate urban area, Richmond is part of the wider Nelson metropolitan area along with nearby Brightwater, Hope, Māpua and Wakefield. The two unitary authorities (Nelson and Tasman) co-operate for tourism-marketing purposes via "Latitude Nelson". As of 2020 Richmond forms part of the Nelson parliamentary electorate.

Tasman District Council (Māori: Te Kaunihera o te tai o Aorere) is the unitary local authority for the Tasman District of New Zealand.The council is led by the mayor of Tasman, who is currently Tim King.Tasman elects its 13 councillors from five different wards: three from Motueka, three from Moutere/Waimea, four from Richmond, one from Murchison and two from Golden Bay.

Waimea Intermediate is a co-educational intermediate school in Richmond, Tasman District, New Zealand.

Waimea College is a co-educational secondary school in Richmond, Tasman District, New Zealand. Opened in 1957, the college has over 1500 students, and is the largest school in the top of the South Island.

Garin College is a New Zealand Catholic, integrated, co-educational day and boarding secondary school in Nelson on the northern outskirts of Richmond. The college opened on 28 January 2002 to serve the Catholic community, particularly in the upper South Island. The college is named after Father Antoine Marie Garin (1810–1889) who was the founding pastor of the Catholic Church in Nelson. The proprietor of the school is the Catholic Archbishop of Wellington.

Saxton Oval, also known as Saxton Field, is a cricket ground in Saxton, Stoke, Nelson Region, New Zealand. Saxton Oval was one of the venues for the 2015 Cricket World Cup. It hosted three matches during the tournament.

Waimea Inlet is a section of Tasman Bay / Te Tai-o-Aorere, in New Zealand's South Island. It is at the southern end of the bay, and separated from it by the partial barriers of Rabbit Island and Bell Island to the west and Monaco Peninsula and the reclaimed land of Nelson Airport to the east. The southern suburbs of Stoke and the town of Richmond lie close to the shore of Waimea Inlet.

Hope, previously known as Ranzau, is a small settlement in the Tasman District of New Zealand. It lies south of Nelson city, between Richmond and Wakefield. Hope began as a German settlement, founded by many of the families on the barque Skjold, which left Hamburg on 21 April 1844 and arrived in Nelson on 1 September. The voyage was underwritten by German nobleman Count von Rantzau; in appreciation, Carl Kelling, an early farmer and Count von Rantzau's representative, gave his homestead the name "Ranzau", a name used for the entire village until it was renamed after Jane Hope, another early settler. The German influence survives in Ranzau Road, which itself houses Ranzau School (dating from 1848) as well as a Lutheran church (established in 1849) opposite the newer Hope Community Church.Today the settlement remains largely rural, dominated by farms and orchards. There are two primary schools (Ranzau School and Hope School), scattered speciality shops (many operating from an orchard or market garden), a restaurant/bar, a convenience store, and a park with tennis courts and a recreation hall.

Saxton is a suburb of Nelson, New Zealand, south of Stoke and northwest of Richmond. Saxton covers a land area of 3.99 km2 (1.54 sq mi). Its principal feature is the Saxton Field sports complex, which includes Saxton Oval – the main cricket ground of Nelson.The area had a relatively small population at the start of the 21st century, with only 10 residents in 1996 and 20 residents in 2001. The estimated population reached 54 in 2006, 60 in 2013, and 57 in 2018.

Monaco is a small suburb of Nelson, New Zealand, west of town centre of Stoke. It lies on a narrow peninsula which extends into Tasman Bay / Te Tai-o-Aorere immediately to the south of Nelson Airport, southwest of central Nelson.The Broadgreen-Monaco statistical area, as defined by Statistics New Zealand, covers a land area of 1.14 km², including the peninsula.

Bell Island, or Bell's Island (unofficial) is an island in New Zealand. It functions as a wastewater treatment plant for the nearby city of Nelson and town of Richmond.Bell Island is a low-lying triangular island, being formed from a raised sandbank in the delta of the Waimea River. It lies to the west of the city of Nelson in the Waimea Inlet, an arm of Tasman Bay / Te Tai-o-Aorere, at the northern end of the South Island. It lies immediately south of the larger Rabbit Island and northeast of Best Island. The island is dominated by the treatment ponds of the sewage plant, which cover much of the east of the island. At the western end, a long narrow spit extends into the mouth of the Waimea River. A smaller, unnamed island and wide sandbank protrude into the inlet at the eastern end of the island. Bell Island is not to be confused with Pakatoa Island, which previously was known as Bell's Island, nor with Waiheke Island, which was also known as Bell's Island.
