Southwest Legacy High School

On June 27, 2022, 53 migrants were found dead in and around a tractor-trailer near Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, United States. The deaths, caused by heat exposure and asphyxiation, reportedly occurred during an apparent illegal migrant smuggling attempt across the U.S.–Mexico border. It is the deadliest smuggling incident of its kind in United States history.

The university was established on May 23, 2009, and held its first classes as a stand-alone university on August 20, 2009. Texas A&M–San Antonio has 161 full and part-time faculty. Texas A&M–San Antonio is the first Texas A&M University System institution to be established in a major urban center.

It is a part of the South San Antonio Independent School District located in southwest Bexar County. South San Antonio High School opened in a new building on August 26, 2013. The Baptist University of the Américas (BUA) is a private Baptist university in San Antonio, Texas. It was founded in 1947. It was previously known as the Mexican Baptist Training School, the Mexican Baptist Bible Institute, the Hispanic Baptist Theological Seminary and the Hispanic Baptist Theological School. Kelly Field (formerly Kelly Air Force Base) (IATA: SKF, ICAO: KSKF, FAA LID: SKF) is a Joint-Use facility located in San Antonio, Texas. It was originally named after George E. M. Kelly, the first member of the U.S. military killed in the crash of an airplane he was piloting. In 2001, pursuant to BRAC action, the former Kelly AFB runway and land west of the runway became "Kelly Field" and control of this reduced size installation was transferred to the adjacent Lackland Air Force Base, part of Joint Base San Antonio. The base is under the jurisdiction of the 802d Mission Support Group, Air Education and Training Command (AETC). Kelly Field was one of thirty-two Air Service training camps established after the United States entry into World War I, being established on 27 March 1917. It was used as a flying field; primary flying school; school for adjutants, supply officers, engineers; mechanics school, and as an aviation general supply depot.Kelly Air Force Base and its associated San Antonio Air Logistics Center of the Air Force Materiel Command (formerly Air Force Logistics Command) was closed as an independent installation and its assets realigned by the 1995 Base Realignment and Closure Commission.

The Kelly Field Historic District is located in southwestern San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. It is the center portion of the base, east of the runways. The boundaries of the 1600 buildings are Billy Mitchell Road on the north, Wagner on the east, England on the south and S. Frank Luke Drive on the west. The 1700 block of officer quarters are bounded on the north by Chennault Street, the east and south by Chennault Circle, and Van Nostrand Drive on the west. The historic district contains 58 contributing and non-contributing buildings, structures, objects and sites, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.Camp Kelly was established on May 7, 1917, to be a US Army training facility for pilots and support staff during World War I. The first airplanes arrived on April 5, and on April 6 the United States declared war on Germany. The increased training activities necessitated more facilities and the acquisition of additional land. The original field became Kelly Field No. 1. The new facilities became Kelly Field No. 2. Military cut-backs followed the 1918 Armistice with Germany, and the two facilities ceased training pilots but functioned as supply depots. The two fields were re-designated in 1925 as Duncan Field (Kelly No. 1) and Kelly Field (Kelly No. 2). The latter included the Air Service Advanced Flying School where Charles Lindbergh earned his wings, graduating first in his class on March 14, 1925.In 1926, the Army Air Corps Act authorized a 5-year period of expansion to begin July 1, 1927. As a result, both Kelly No. 1 and No. 2 began being developed as permanent aviator training facilities. During World War II, the facilities were consolidated as San Antonio Air Depot and was the largest maintenance and supply facility in the United States. The property was renamed Kelly Air Force Base after the National Security Act of 1947 established the United States Air Force as a separate branch of the military. Kelly eventually became the largest employer in San Antonio. In 1995, the United States government began realignment of military facilities. Kelly was closed in 2001, partially combined with Lackland Air Force Base. The remainder was taken over by the Greater Kelly Development Authority of the state of Texas and redeveloped as a commercial and military industrial center.

United States Air Force Basic Military Training (also known as BMT or boot camp) is an eight-week program of physical and combat training required in order for an individual to become an enlisted Airman in the United States Air Force or enlisted Guardian in the United States Space Force. It is located at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

The Port Authority of San Antonio (doing business as Port San Antonio) is a public entity created to redevelop some of the land formerly occupied by Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. The port's 1,900-acre (7.7 square kilometer) campus is the single-largest commercial/industrial property in Bexar County.Over 80 tenant customers lease facilities (both former Air Force and newly built spaces) from the Port and employ around 15,000 people throughout the property, generating approximately $5.6 billion in annual economic activity for the region. While long-standing industries such as aerospace, logistics and manufacturing continue to thrive at the Port, the campus has become a global center for cybersecurity and advanced technology in recent years by strengthening a unique ecosystem that grows connections and collaboration among tech innovators. The Port is regarded as a notable example of base redevelopment. In 2010 it was named Base Redevelopment Community of the Year by the Association of Defense Communities — a Washington, D.C.- based group that supports the transition of former military facilities to serve other public and commercial uses. Additionally, Port San Antonio was named the region's Business of the Year for 2019 by the San Antonio Business Journal.

Cannon Field (FAA LID: 53T, formerly 53TX) is a privately owned, public use airport located six nautical miles (7 mi, 11 km) east of the central business district of Somerset, a city in Bexar County, Texas, United States. It is a small airport on the south side of San Antonio, located at the southwest corner of the intersection of Loop 1604 and Applewhite Road.
