The Sorbian Institute (German: Sorbisches Institut; Sorbian: Serbski institut, Upper Sorbian: [ˈsɛʁpskʲi instʲiˈtut] , Lower Sorbian: [ˈsɛrpskʲi instʲiˈtut]) is a research facility focused on Sorbian languages, culture and history. It is an extra-university institute collecting and archiving Sorbian texts and cultural artifacts making them available to the public. Originally founded as Institute for Sorbian Ethnology (Institut für sorbische Volksforschung; Institut za serbski ludospyt) by Pawoł Nowotny in 1951, it was then integrated into the German Academy of Sciences at Berlin in 1952. In 1992, the Sorbian institute was established by a treaty of the two German states Brandenburg and Saxony.

Upper Sorbian Gymnasium in Bautzen (Upper Sorbian: Serbski gymnazij Budyšin, German: Sorbisches Gymnasium Bautzen), is a coeducational gymnasium (e.g. preparatory high school or grammar school) in Saxony, Germany. The school is acting under the slogan "Develop Sorbian identity and cultivate humanistic traditions".

Bautzen/Budyšin (German: Bahnhof Bautzen; Upper Sorbian: Dwórnišćo Budyšin) is a railway station in the town of Bautzen, Saxony, Germany. The station lies on the Görlitz–Dresden railway line and the Bautzen–Bad Schandau railway line, the latter now not running to Bautzen. The station is also on the former Bautzen–Hoyerswerda railway.

Bautzen (German pronunciation: [ˈbaʊ̯t͡sn̩] (listen)) or Budyšin (Upper Sorbian pronunciation: [ˈbudɨʃin] (listen)), until 1868 Budissin, is a town in eastern Saxony, Germany, and the administrative centre of the district of Bautzen. It is located on the Spree river, is the eighth most populous town in Saxony, and is the seat of Saxony's largest district. Bautzen lies in the bilingual Sorbian settlement area (Serbski sydlenski rum) of Lusatia, and is Lusatia's third-largest town after Cottbus and Görlitz, as well as the second-largest town in Upper Lusatia. The town lies in the hilly Upper Lusatian Gefilde (Hornjołužiske hona), a part of the northwesternmost foothills of the Sudetes, just north of the Lusatian Highlands. Bautzen is the first larger town on the Spree River (Spree→ Havel→ Elbe→ North Sea), and the Bautzen Reservoir (Budyska rěčna zawěra) lies in the north of the town. In 2021, Bautzen had a population of around 38,000. Although Görlitz is larger, it is Bautzen that is regarded as the historical capital of Upper Lusatia. Bautzen is the political and cultural center of the entirety of the Slavic minority of the Sorbs (Upper and Lower), although Lower Lusatia and the Lower Sorbian-speaking Sorbs have an own, second center, which is Cottbus. About 10 percent of Bautzen's population is Upper Sorbian-speaking. The use of the language is more widespread in the countryside surrounding the town than in the town itself. Bautzen is the seat of several Sorbian institutions like the Domowina, the German-Sorbian People's Theater (Němsko-Serbske ludowe dźiwadło), and Sorbian Broadcasting (Sorbischer Rundfunk, Serbski rozhłós). From 1346 until 1815, the town was a member of the Lusatian League. The Bautzen Wenceslaus' Market (Bautzener Wenzelsmarkt, Upper Sorbian: Budyske Wjacławske wiki) is Germany's "oldest christmas market mentioned in a chronicle". Asteroid 11580 Bautzen is named in honour of the city.

St. Peter's Cathedral is an interdenominational church in Bautzen (also Budessen), Germany. It is among the oldest and largest simultaneum churches in Germany. Located in the heart of the city's "Old Town", the church and the square it is situated within is a major tourist attraction.

Protschenberg (Sorbian Hrodźiško) is a mountain of Saxony, southeastern Germany.

The Bautzen Reservoir, (German: 'Talsperre Bautzen') is a reservoir on the River Spree in Germany. It is situated just north of the city of Bautzen in the state of Saxony. The dam was built from 1968 to 1975, and has been in operation since 1977. The dam is used to provide domestic water supplies and to regulate water levels in order to conserve water and reduce flood risk. Importantly, it ensures a constant water supply to the Boxberg lignite-fuelled power station down stream on the River Spree and also provides for fishing and other water based leisure activities.

Thromberg (sorbian Lubin) is a mountain of Saxony, southeastern Germany. It is situated six kilometres south-east of Bautzen and part of the Upper Lusatian mountains.

Kleinwelka (Sorbian: Mały Wjelkow) is a subdivision of the city of Bautzen, Germany. It was first mentioned in 1345. Since the mid-18th century it has been the site of a settlement congregation of the Moravian Church, the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeinde; for many years it was the seat of a boarding school for the children of missionaries from all over the world. Kleinwelka is a station of the Osterreiten, a regional Easter procession on horseback, from Bautzen to Radibor. Its main sites of interest are the Saurierpark Kleinwelka and the adjacent Irrgarten (hedge maze).

Obergurig (German) or Hornja Hórka (Upper Sorbian) is a municipality in the district of Bautzen, in Saxony, Germany. The municipality is part of the recognized Sorbian settlement area in Saxony. Upper Sorbian has an official status next to German, all villages bear names in both languages. The villages of Singwitz (Sorbian: Dźěžnikecy), Mönchswalde (Mnišonc), Lehn (Lejno), Schwarznaußlitz (Čorne Noslicy), Großdöbschütz (Debsecy) and Kleindöbschütz (Małe Debsecy) belong to the municipality.
