Treyford to Bepton Down

Didling is a small village in West Sussex, England. On 1 April 1933 the parish was abolished and merged with Treyford. The 824 acre village consists of a few buildings and the historic church of St Andrew's, which dates to the 13th century.

West Dean Woods is a 16.3-hectare (40-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north of West Dean in West Sussex. It is managed by the Sussex Wildlife Trust.These woods have records dating back to the sixteenth century. The ground layer is rich in flowering plants, including white helleborine, fly orchid and around two million wild daffodils. Thirty five bryophytes have been recorded and invertebrates include two rare hoverflies which live on dead wood, Cheilosa carbonaria and Cheilosa nigripes.There is no public access to the site.

Bepton is a village, Anglican parish and civil parish in the Chichester district of West Sussex, England. According to the 2001 census it had 104 households with a population of 249 of whom 117 were economically active. The village is about 3 miles (4.8 km) south-west of Midhurst.

Monkton House, West Dean, West Sussex is an English country house designed in 1902 by Edwin Lutyens for Willie James. It was extensively remodelled for his son, Edward James, in the 1930s. Working with Christopher Nicholson and Hugh Casson, and assisted by Salvador Dalí, James constructed what has been called "the only complete Surrealist house ever created in Britain". The collection of Surrealist art and furniture which James assembled at the house, much of it by Dalí himself, was "one of the largest and most important in the world". A private residence, Monkton is a Grade II listed building.

The Devil's Jumps are a group of five large bell barrows situated on the South Downs 1.2 kilometres (0.75 mi) south-east of Treyford in the county of West Sussex in southern England. The Devil's Jumps site is listed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument and as a Local Nature Reserve. Most barrows along the South Downs have been damaged by agriculture and treasure hunters but the Devil's Jumps are considered to be the best preserved Bronze Age barrow group in Sussex. The barrows are laid out in a line running approximately south-east to north-west. The five barrows vary in diameter from 26 to 34 metres (85 to 112 ft) and stand up to 4.8 metres (16 ft) high. Two smaller barrows were situated close to the five main mounds. Traces remain of a sixth barrow. The Devil's Jumps have been dated to the Bronze Age and they are believed to be between three and four thousand years old. The Devil's Jumps were explored in the 19th century, when bones were found in two of the mounds, although some of the barrows contained no cremated remains at all. The main line of five barrows is aligned with sunset on Midsummer Day.The site is managed by the Murray Downland Trust and is cleared of overgrowth. The land is currently grazed by sheep and cattle as a part of this management. In 2009 permission was given by the landowners to clear trees from the site and return it to chalk downland.

Treyford is a hamlet, Anglican parish and former civil parish, now in the civil parish of Elsted and Treyford, in the Chichester district of West Sussex, England. The hamlet sits on the Elsted to Bepton Road 4 miles (6.4 km) southwest of Midhurst. In 1931 the civil parish had a population of 104.

Elsted railway station served the village of Elsted in the county of West Sussex in England. The village itself was a mile away to the south-west. The station was on the line between Petersfield and Midhurst, which was operational between 1 September 1864 and the last train ran on 5 February 1955. The station building has now been cleared for an industrial development, although nearby railway cottages are still in existence.

Rook Clift is a 10.7-hectare (26-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of South Harting in West Sussex. It is also a Special Area of Conservation.A stream rises in this steep sided valley, which has semi-natural ancient woodland on its slopes. The canopy is dominated by a nationally scarce tree, large leaved lime, with other trees including beech and ash. The rich mollusc fauna includes Helicodonta obvoluta, which is a Red Data Book species.

Iping and Stedham Commons is a nature reserve owned and managed by the Sussex Wildlife Trust. It is a 125.4-hectare (310-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (designated as Iping Common but covering both commons) near the villages of Iping and Stedham, west of Midhurst in West Sussex. It is also a Local Nature Reserve and a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade 2.This is described by Natural England as one of the richest areas of heath in the county. Most of it is dry but there are also areas of wet heath, two ponds, woodland, scrub and grassland. It has a rich invertebrate fauna and breeding heathland birds include nightjars and stonechats.There is access from Elsted Road, which runs between the two commons.

Elsted is a village, Anglican parish and former civil parish, now in the civil parish of Elsted and Treyford, in the Chichester district of West Sussex, England. The village is on the Midhurst to South Harting Road 4.5 miles (7.2 km) west of Midhurst. In 1961 the civil parish had a population of 188. On 1 April 2003 the civil parish was abolished and merged with Treyford to form "Elsted & Treyford".

Elsted and Treyford is a civil parish in the Chichester district of West Sussex, west of Midhurst. It contains the settlements of Elsted, Elsted Marsh, Treyford, Didling and Hooksway. The parish contains two churches, St Paul in Elsted and St Andrew, known as the Shepherds' Church, in the hamlet of Didling. It also contains the site of Treyford church. Hooksway has a 16th-century pub, the Royal Oak.In the 2001 census there were 114 households with a total population of 253 of whom 116 were economically active. At the 2011 Census the population was 246.The Devil's Jumps, Treyford, and Beacon Hill are nearby.

Cocking Railway Station served the village of Cocking in West Sussex, England. It was on the former London Brighton and South Coast Railway line between Chichester and Midhurst. The station was designed by T. H. Myres, in his standardized Domestic Revival style, each formed like a large "Country House", similar to the stations on the Bluebell Railway.
