Ashburn Colored School

Ashburn Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church located in Ashburn, Loudoun County, Virginia. It was built in 1878, and is a one-story, rectangular wood-frame building in the Carpenter Gothic style. The church measures 33 feet wide by 50 feet long, and is topped by a steep gable roof.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Belmont Manor House, formally known as Belmont Plantation, is a two-story, five-part Federal mansion in Loudoun County, Virginia, built between the years of 1799–1802 by Ludwell Lee (1760–1836), son of Richard Henry Lee. The land surrounding the mansion, the Belmont property, was handed down to his first wife (also his first cousin), Flora Lee, from their grandfather, Thomas Lee. Located in the Belmont census-designated place, the Belmont Manor House and property have been owned since 1995 by Toll Brothers, Inc. It uses the Manor House as the clubhouse in a gated golf community. The property and house are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Ashburn is a census-designated place (CDP) in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, its population was 43,511, up from 3,393 twenty years earlier. It is 30 miles (48 km) northwest of Washington, D.C., and part of the Washington metropolitan area. Ashburn is a major hub for Internet traffic, due to its many data centers. Andrew Blum characterized it as the "bullseye of America's Internet".

Broad Run High School is a public secondary school in Ashburn, an unincorporated area in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. Broad Run is part of the Loudoun County Public Schools system (LCPS). It was ranked as the #1 Best Public High School in Loudoun County and the #9 Best Public High School in Virginia by U.S. News in 2020. Originally a rural school serving all of eastern Loudoun County, the growth of the county's population beginning in the mid-1990s has resulted in systematic reduction of Broad Run's attendance area as it spun off eight of the district's high schools from within its original boundaries. Initial surroundings of farm fields have been replaced by housing tracts and the school now possesses one of the most culturally diverse student populations in the region. Broad Run High School is also located in one of the most affluent zip codes and counties in the country with recorded median income of more than $100,000 per household. After a period of high construction in the early 2000s, the number of high schools in the area stayed the same until Briar Woods and Freedom High School opened in 2005, John Champe High school in 2012, Rock Ridge High School in 2014, and Riverside High School completed construction in 2015.In 1969, Loudoun County opened its third public high school amidst corn fields in Ashburn to accommodate the growing student populations resulting from new housing developments in the unincorporated communities in the eastern half of the county. Since then, the county population has increased nearly sevenfold (most of it in the east), straining education budgets, infrastructure, and local politics. For Ashburn, this has resulted in constantly shifting attendance boundaries as new schools are constantly being opened, at all levels, elementary, middle, and high. The area's student demographics have significantly changed as well: Loudoun County's residents are now the country's most affluent (per capita), and its ethnic composition continues to diversify as foreign immigration into Northern Virginia increases. Before the 2011–2012 school year, additional lockers were installed due to increases in the school's population.

Belmont is a census-designated place (CDP) in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2010 United States Census was 5,966. It is 5 miles (8 km) southeast of Leesburg, the Loudoun county seat, and 31 miles (50 km) northwest of Washington, D.C. The Belmont Manor House, built between 1799 and 1802 by a son of Richard Henry Lee, is in the northeast part of the CDP and is now the clubhouse for a gated golf community. The Belmont CDP is situated along the east side of Belmont Ridge Road (State Route 659) between State Route 7 and State Route 267 (the Dulles Toll Road). The CDP extends north to VA 7 and south to include Middlebury Street and the Washington and Old Dominion Trail, while to the east it is bordered by Stubble Road, Claiborne Parkway, and Ashburn Road. Two major subdivisions make up Belmont: Belmont Country Club in the east is the larger of the two, and Belmont Greene, in the west, is the smaller. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Belmont CDP has a total area of 2.7 square miles (7.1 km2), of which 0.03 square miles (0.08 km2), or 1.20%, are water. The area drains mainly east via several streams toward Broad Run, a north-flowing tributary of the Potomac River, while the westernmost part of the CDP drains west to Goose Creek, which also flows north to the Potomac.

Janelia or Janelia Farm is a mansion and former farm near Ashburn, Virginia, built in 1936 for artist Vinton Liddell Pickens and her husband Robert Pickens, a journalist. The farm property has become the Janelia Research Campus of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, which surrounds the house.

Since 2000 it has awarded over $175 million in scholarships to nearly 2,300 students and more than $97 million in grants to organizations that serve outstanding low-income students.

One Loudoun is a census-designated place (CDP) in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. It is a mixed-use development just south of Virginia State Route 7, 29 miles (47 km) northwest of Washington, D.C., and 7 miles (11 km) southeast of Leesburg. One Loudoun was developed since the 2010 census, so it was not recognized as a census-designated place until the 2020 census. The community has an Ashburn mailing address. As of the 2020 census, the population was 2,285.

Janelia Research Campus is a scientific research campus of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute that opened in October 2006. The campus is located in Loudoun County, Virginia, near the town of Ashburn. It is known for its scientific research and modern architecture. The current Executive Director of the laboratory is Ronald Vale, who is also a vice-president of HHMI. He succeeded Gerald M. Rubin in 2020. The campus was known as "Janelia Farm Research Campus" until 2014.

Ryan is an unincorporated community in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. The community was once at the corner of Shellhorn, Ryan, and Waxpool roads. It is now a part of the Ashburn communities.

The African American Burial Ground is a historic cemetery for the enslaved, located in Ashburn, Virginia, off Harry Byrd Highway (Virginia State Route 7) in Loudoun County, Virginia. Most of the enslaved buried there were from nearby Belmont Plantation. The abandoned site was rediscovered in 2015 by Rev. Michelle Thomas, in 2019 president of the local NAACP chapter. That year, Governor Ralph Northam appointed her to the Commission on African American History Education in the Commonwealth. In 2017 the real estate developer Toll Brothers, which owned the land, donated 2.75 acres (1.11 ha) to a new Loudoun Freedom Center. In 2021, it agreed to donate an additional 4 acres (1.6 ha), which will be used to re-create a schoolhouse and other structures used by enslaved people.There are also to be a columbarium and a scatter garden, where people can scatter ashes of their loved ones. In 2020 Michelle Thomas buried the first free Black in the cemetery: her 16-year-old son, dead of drowning.

Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) is a branch of the Loudoun County, Virginia, United States government, and administers public schools in the county. LCPS's headquarters is located at 21000 Education Court in Ashburn, an unincorporated section of the county.Due to rapid growth in the region, LCPS is one of the fastest-growing school divisions in Virginia and the third largest school division in the state. For the 2019–2020 school year, LCPS educated approximately 84,000 students.
