Ringwood railway station

Ringwood School (opened in 1959) is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form situated in Ringwood, Hampshire, England. It was a specialist Language College and became an academy in April 2011, and gained National Teaching School status in July 2011. The school was one of the first 100 designated a Teaching School in the United Kingdom in July 2011.

The Castleman Trailway is a footpath in Southern England. Portions of the trailway are also used as a cyclepath but the middle section from East Wimborne (close to The Old Thatch public house) to the River Allen bridge (just south of Wimborne) is not cyclable. One trailhead is on Barrack Lane in Ringwood and the other trailhead is the car park at Upton Country Park. (From here, a cycle path runs along the sea front, all the way to Poole railway station). The entire Castleman Trailway path is waymarked. The path passes through the villages of Ashley Heath, West Moors, Oakley, Broadstone and Upton, as well as Upton Heath and Upton Country Park.The trailway is part of the former Southampton and Dorchester Railway line which ran from Brockenhurst to Hamworthy Junction via Ringwood. It was known as "The Old Road". This circuitous route was promoted in the 19th century by the Wimborne solicitor Charles Castleman, and was chosen because of the need to run through populated areas at a time when Bournemouth was a small village. Many people called it "The Castleman Corkscrew" owing to the number of curves.

Ringwood is a market town in south-west Hampshire, England, on the River Avon close to the New Forest, northeast of Bournemouth and southwest of Southampton. It was founded by the Anglo-Saxons, and has held a weekly market since the Middle Ages.

Ringwood Town F.C. is a football club based in Ringwood, Hampshire, England. The club is affiliated to the Hampshire Football Association, and is a FA Charter Standard Community Club. They are members of the Wessex League Division One.

Hightown is a village in the New Forest district of Hampshire, England. Its nearest town is Ringwood, which lies approximately 0.8 miles (1.3 km) north-west from the village. Hightown is located to the southeast of Ringwood where the land rises to 60 metres (200 ft). It straddles the border of the New Forest National Park. The village has one inn called The Elm Tree. The inn is the monthly meeting place of the Wessex Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club.To the east of the village is Hightown Common. This parcel of land consisting of 16 hectares (40 acres) was acquired by the Open Spaces Society in 1929, in memory of George Shaw-Lefevre, 1st Baron Eversley who founded the society. It was passed to the National Trust, together with a memorial seat, designed by architect Elisabeth Scott.

Blashford is a small hamlet of approx. 65 dwellings situated close to the New Forest National Park in Hampshire, England. Its nearest town is Ringwood, which lies approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) south from the village. It is in the civil parish of Ellingham, Harbridge and Ibsley. In the late 1900s the area was subject to a series of gravel extractions and became a landscape of interconnecting open lakes and wet meadows. The area has recovered spectacularly since the days of gravel extraction and become a haven for all sorts of wildlife, including waterfowl, bats, otters and moths. Blashford is home to the Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve. The 490 acres (200 ha) wildlife reserve is managed by the Wildlife Trust in partnership with the New Forest District Council and landowners Wessex Water and Bournemouth and West Hampshire Water. Blashford Lakes is an internationally important site for thousands of wildfowl. Its importance is recognised by its SSSI, Ramsar, SPA (Special Protection Area) and SINC (Site of Importance for Nature Conservation) protection status. Several other parts of Blashford also have this status, including open lakes and the River Avon and associated flood plain. Linking these sites is an area of wetland known locally as Blashford Wet Meadows.

Poulner (/'paʊnə/) is a small village in the civil parish of Ringwood in the New Forest district, in Hampshire, England, although its northern fringe lies in the adjacent civil parish of Ellingham, Harbridge and Ibsley. It is 1 mile (1.6 km) east from the town centre of Ringwood. Poulner is recorded as Polenore in 1300, Polenoure in 1327, Pulnore in 1410, and Powner in 1682. The origin of the name is uncertain, but the second element "ora" or "ofer" means "bank, slope", probably referring to the escarpment now known as Poulner Hill that lies to its east, and the first element might be "polleie" meaning the popular herb "pennyroyal".At one time Poulner was a separate settlement from Ringwood - however 20th century development of housing in the fields and small-holdings that once lay between Poulner and Ringwood have made Poulner effectively a suburb of Ringwood. Today Poulner has a row of shops including a Tesco Express containing a post office, two pubs, a medical centre with an attached pharmacy, two primary schools, a small Anglican church and a Baptist chapel, a Scout group, and an amateur dramatics society called Poulner Players.The site of Royal Air Force Station Ibsley, in use during World War II, is located on the outskirts of Poulner to the north. This site has later been used for motor-racing as Ibsley Circuit and today is a quarry lake area.

Royal Air Force Bisterne or more simply RAF Bisterne is a former Royal Air Force Advanced Landing Ground in Hampshire, England. The airfield is located in the hamlet of Bisterne approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Ringwood; about 85 miles (137 km) southwest of London. Opened in March 1944, Bisterne was a prototype for the type of temporary Advanced Landing Ground type airfield that would be built in France after D-Day, when the need advanced landing fields would become urgent as the Allied forces moved east across France and Germany. It was used by the United States Army Air Force as a fighter airfield. It was closed late in the summer of 1944. Today the airfield is a mixture of agricultural fields with no recognizable remains.

Linbrook Lake, also called Linbrook East, is a lake located just west of the New Forest National Park in Hampshire, England with the village of Blashford extending further west toward the A338 road. The nearest sizable town to this lake is Ringwood, which lies approximately 1.2 miles (2.3 km) south-west. This area is frequented by bird watchers, and the lake can be viewed from the Avon Valley Path.The lake is about 20 acres (8.1 ha), with thick weeds and depths up to 12 feet (3.7 m). It is a top tench fishery, and is also known for bream and carp, and occasional rudd.This lake is adjacent to the Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve.

The Ringwood Waldorf School is a private alternative school standing on the borders of Dorset and Hampshire, with classes ranging from Kindergarten to the Upper school. It educates according to the principles of Steiner Waldorf Education and has an enrollment of over 240 students.

Avon Lodge was a private untimetabled railway station in the county of Hampshire (now Dorset), opened on 13 November 1862 by the Ringwood, Christchurch and Bournemouth Railway. Becoming part of the London and South Western Railway, it was taken into the Southern Railway in the grouping of 1923 and closed on 30 September 1935.
