Washington Borough Public Schools

Washington is a borough in Warren County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 7,299, an increase of 838 (+13.0%) from the 2010 census count of 6,461, which in turn reflected a decline of 251 (−3.7%) from the 6,712 counted in the 2000 census.Washington was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 20, 1868, from portions of Washington Township. The borough was named for George Washington, one of more than ten communities in the state of New Jersey that were named for the first president. The Borough of Washington is surrounded by Washington Township, which is one of five municipalities in the state of New Jersey with the name "Washington Township".The borough had the 26th-highest property tax rate in New Jersey, with an equalized rate of 4.206% in 2020, compared to 2.967% in the county as a whole and a statewide average of 2.279%.

The Pohatcong Valley Groundwater Contamination superfund site is located in Warren County, Franklin Township, Washington Township, and Washington Borough in New Jersey. It was recognized in the 1970s but not designated into the National Priorities List until 1989. It is a contamination of the Kittany Limestone Aquifer underlying the Pohatcong Valley. This toxic site stretches across 9,800 acres of land. The chemicals that are polluting the groundwater and soil are trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE). If someone were to be exposed to these harmful toxins for a short amount of time it can result in unconsciousness. Long term effects unfortunately include liver and kidney problems. The plans to clean up this superfund site are costing the companies involved, Pechiney Public Packaging Inc., Bristol Meyers Squibb Company, Albea Americas Inc, and Citigroup Inc, about $92 million, and the situation still has not been completely resolved.

The Washington Township School District is a community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade from Washington Township, in Warren County, New Jersey, United States.As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprised of two schools, had an enrollment of 422 students and 46.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 9.2:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "GH", the third-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.Public school students in seventh through twelfth grades attend the schools of the Warren Hills Regional School District, which also serves students from the municipalities of Franklin Township, Mansfield Township and Washington Borough, along with those from Oxford Township who attend for grades 9-12 only. Schools in the district (with 2018–19 enrollment data from the National Center for Education Statistics) are Warren Hills Regional Middle School located in Washington Borough with 542 students in grades 7-8 and Warren Hills Regional High School located in Washington Township with 1,205 students in grades 9-12.

First Methodist Episcopal Church, also known as United Methodist Church, is a historic church at 116 East Washington Avenue in Washington, Warren County, New Jersey. It was built from 1895 to 1898 with a Richardsonian Romanesque architectural style. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places for its significance in architecture on July 17, 2017. The parsonage, built 1892, is also included in the listing.

The Warren Hills Regional School District is comprehensive public school district located in Warren County, New Jersey, United States, that serves seventh grade through twelfth grades. The district includes students from the municipalities of Franklin Township, Mansfield Township, Washington Borough and Washington Township, while students from Oxford Township attend the district's high school for grades 9-12 as part of a sending/receiving relationship.As of the 2020–21 school year, the district, comprised of two schools, had an enrollment of 1,745 students and 156.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.1:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "FG", the fourth-highest of eight groupings. Bowerstown is an unincorporated community in Washington Township, Warren County, New Jersey near the Morris Canal and the Pohatcong Creek. It was founded in 1829 by Jesse Vanetta and Michael B. Bowers with the building of an iron foundry. The Bowerstown Historic District, encompassing the village, was listed on the state and national registers of historic places in 1996.

Warren Hills Regional High School is a four-year public high school located on Jackson Valley Road in Washington Township in Warren County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as part of the Warren Hills Regional School District. The school offers a comprehensive education for students in ninth through twelfth grades. The student population includes students from Franklin Township, Mansfield Township, Oxford Township, Washington Borough and Washington Township. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 2014.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,126 students and 97.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.5:1. There were 83 students (7.4% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and none eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Pleasant Valley is an unincorporated community located in Washington Township, Warren County, New Jersey, west of Washington, along the Pohatcong Creek. The hamlet was built around a mill on the creek during the mid-18th century. The Pleasant Valley Historic District, encompassing the village, is listed on the state and national registers of historic places.

Washington is a former commuter railroad train station in the borough of Washington, Warren County, New Jersey. The station serviced trains operated by the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad on three different lines. Washington station handled the Lackawanna Old Road, which came from Port Morris Junction and continued to Portland, Pennsylvania; the Hampton Branch, which went to Hampton's Central Railroad of New Jersey station in Hunterdon County; and the Phillipsburg Branch, which operated to Phillipsburg Union Station. Washington station contained a single large brick depot and multiple platforms. Railroad service to Washington began with the opening of the Warren Railroad on May 27, 1856, between Delaware and Hampton. The Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad took over operations the next year when they agreed to a perpetual lease. Service from the Morris and Essex Railroad joined in 1864, with an extension to Phillipsburg opening in 1865. The railroads built a new station depot in 1867 that would remain until 1900. On December 24, 1911, the Lackawanna Cut-Off opened between Slateford Junction, Pennsylvania and Port Morris, resulting in the station becoming part of a branch. Through the 1920s and 1940s, the Lackawanna started discontinuing passenger services. Passenger service between Washington and Hampton ended on March 20, 1926, and service to Phillipsburg ended on June 20, 1943. The former main line alignment stopped operations north of Washington on March 15, 1944. Service to Washington officially ended on September 30, 1966, when the line from Washington to Port Morris ended service as part of cuts made by the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad.Washington station joined the National Register of Historic Places on July 3, 1979, as Washington Railroad Station. The station was demolished in 1982.

Vacchiano Farm is a winery in the Port Colden section of Washington Township in Warren County, New Jersey, United States. A family produce and livestock farm since 1983, the vineyard was first planted in 2004, and began to sell its wine in 2009. Vacchiano has 11 acres of grapes under cultivation, and produces 2,500 cases of wine per year.

The Warren County Technical School District is a technical and vocational public school district serving students in ninth through twelfth grades, along with programs for adult learners, located in Washington borough, and serving the entire community of Warren County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2015-16 school year, the district and its one school had an enrollment of 478 students and 43.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.99:1.The district offers "a comprehensive high school education, athletics, and student life found at a traditional high school setting with the added focus of vocational and career training based on current industry standards"

Brass Castle is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within Washington Township, in Warren County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP's population was 1,555.Brass Castle is named for Jacob Brass, an early settler of the area.
