Werra-Suhl-Tal

Berka/Werra is a former Verwaltungsgemeinschaft in the district Wartburgkreis in Thuringia, Germany. The seat of the Verwaltungsgemeinschaft was in Berka/Werra. It was disbanded in January 2019, when its municipalities were merged into the new town Werra-Suhl-Tal. Berka/Werra (also Berka an der Werra) is a town and a former municipality in the Wartburgkreis district, in Thuringia, in central Germany. Since 1 January 2019, it is part of the town Werra-Suhl-Tal. It is situated on the river Werra, 19 km west of Eisenach. Within the former municipality there are the following municipal districts: Berka/Werra city center Fernbreitenbach Gospenroda Herda (with Hausbreitenbach and Kratzeroda) Horschlitt (with Auenheim-Rienau) Vitzeroda (with Abteroda and Gasteroda) Wünschensuhl

Suhl is a river of Thuringia, Germany. It flows into the Werra near Berka/Werra. The river has its source in the municipality of Moorgrund, west of Etterwinden on the western slope of the Pfaffenberg. The Suhl then flows through Kupfersuhl, Ettenhausen an der Suhl, where it is crossed by the Werra railway, and the Lindigshof to Marksuhl. Between Ettenhausen and Lindigshof, the Suhl is dammed up in the Ettenhausen dam, which was built at the end of the 1980s. Marksuhl is the largest town in the Suhl valley. West of Marksuhl follow the villages of Wünschensuhl, Fernbreitenbach, Hausbreitenbach and Herda, all districts of the Werra-Suhl valley. In Hausbreitenbach the Suhl fed a pond which surrounded the former moated castle of Breitenbach. Below the Berka industrial estate the Suhl then flows into the Werra between Berka and Gerstungen. The last 500 metres or so of the Suhl are shown on the topographical map as the Kleine Werra, after a former branch of the Werra. Like almost all small rivers, the Suhl has been used as mill water by the neighbouring communities since the Middle Ages.

The Weihe river is an 11.5 km long western tributary of the Werra River in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in Hesse and the Wartburg district in Thuringia, Germany. It flows into the Werra in Gerstungen. The Weihe has a catchment area of about 64 km², of which about 60% is accounted for by the Suhl; its discharge is 344 L/s.

Dippach is a village and a former municipality in the Wartburgkreis district of Thuringia, Germany. Since 1 January 2019, it is part of the town Werra-Suhl-Tal.

Gerstungen is a municipality in the Wartburgkreis district of Thuringia, Germany. It is 42 kilometers southwest of the geographic center of Germany, located in Niederdorla. In July 2018 the former municipalities of Marksuhl and Wolfsburg-Unkeroda were merged into Gerstungen.

Gerstungen station is located in the town of Gerstungen on the western border of the German state of Thuringia on the Halle–Bebra railway. The station has been particularly notable for its history as a border station between different states and railway administrations.

The Weihe Viaduct (German: Weihetalbrücke) is a bridge of the A 4 motorway near Richelsdorf, Germany. It is located in the stretch of the A 4 between Bad Hersfeld (Hesse) and Eisenach (Thuringia), between the exits Wildeck-Obersuhl and Gerstungen. It crosses the valley of the small river Weihe. The bridge was intended to have been built at the beginning of the 1940s, but it wasn't finished then: only a few columns were built. Instead for the motorway a provisional route through the valley was constructed. In the 50 years to follow its construction was cancelled due to its location near the former border between the German Democratic Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany. After the 1990 German reunification, traffic increased considerably, and in 1992 construction of a new bridge was started. One of the old columns was kept as a monument. The new bridge (45 million DM construction costs) was inaugurated in 1994. It is a prestressed concrete bridge of 584 m, which rest on 8 columns.

Dankmarshausen is a village and former municipality in the Wartburgkreis district of Thuringia, Germany. Since 1 January 2019, it has been part of the town of Werra-Suhl-Tal.

Heringen (Werra) is a small town in Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in eastern Hesse, Germany lying right at the boundary with Thuringia.

Monte Kali and Kalimanjaro are local colloquial names for the spoil heap or spoil tip that towers over the town of Heringen, Hesse, Germany. It is one of a number of sites where the K+S chemical company dumps sodium chloride (common table salt), a byproduct of potash mining and processing, a major industry in the area. The names are puns of Kali (shorthand for Kalisalz, German for "potash") on "Monte Carlo" and "Kilimanjaro." The heap lies directly next to the border with the state of Thuringia, and hence next to the former inner German border with what was once East Germany. The heap rises over 250 metres (820 ft) above the surrounding land, its summit reaching 520 metres (1,710 ft) above sea level. According to the Werra Potash Mining Museum in Heringen, Monte Kali has been in operation since 1976; as of August 2016, it covered 98 hectares (240 acres) and contained approximately 201 million tonnes of salt, with another 900 tonnes being added every hour and 7.2 million tonnes a year.
