Oconee Street School

St. Mary's Episcopal Church was an Episcopal church in Athens, Georgia, United States. Completed in 1869, it came to prominence after the musical group R.E.M., then without a name, played its first concert at the location in 1980. Built for the workers at the nearby Athens Manufacturing Company, owned by Robert Lee Bloomfield, the factory's closure in 1892 led to the demise of the church's functionality.

Oconee Hill Cemetery is a cemetery in Athens, Georgia, United States. The extant cemetery opened in 1856 and is located near the University of Georgia.Oconee Hill Cemetery was purchased in 1855 by the city of Athens when further burials were prohibited in the old town cemetery on land owned by the University of Georgia. In 1856, the city formed a self-perpetuating Board of Trustees to hold and manage in trust the original purchase of 17 acres (69,000 m2) on the west side of the North Oconee River as a public cemetery for the benefit of the town.On May 22, 2013, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The University of Georgia Campus Arboretum is an arboretum located across the University of Georgia campus in Athens, Georgia. It is open daily without charge.Today's arboretum is the third near campus. The first (1833–1854) was located east of campus, and the second (early 1900s) was on south campus. The first has entirely vanished, but a few trees remain of the second. Today's arboretum is organized into three walking tours through the North, Central, and South Campus. A free booklet provides maps and tree identification, and more than 150 campus trees are marked by plaques corresponding to the booklet.The campus arboretum should not be confused with Georgia's state arboretum, also operated by the university but located in Thompson Mills Forest, Braselton, Georgia. It is also distinct from the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, organized in 1968 as the university's third botanical garden, and located off campus.

The Atrium Award is an award for excellence in journalism coverage of the garment industry. It is given by the University of Georgia's Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication and AmericasMart, the world's largest permanent trade center for wholesale trade and the only permanent international trade center in the United States. The award was established in 1980 to "recognize outstanding work of writers and photojournalists who cover the nation's garment industry and to encourage them to put forth their best efforts." Past Atrium Award winners include the San Francisco Chronicle, Detroit Free Press, and Los Angeles Times, as well as individuals such as Sandra Eisert (San Jose Mercury-News) and Jeff Wilkerson (St. Louis Magazine).

Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium is the on-campus playing venue for football at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, United States (also known as UGA). The 93,033-seat stadium is the ninth-largest football stadium in the NCAA (and in the United States), and the 17th-largest such stadium in the world. Games played there are said to be played "between the hedges" due to the field being surrounded by privet hedges, which have been a part of the design of the stadium since it opened in 1929. The current generation of hedges were planted in 2023 after the originals were taken out to accommodate the football tournaments for the 1996 Summer Olympics. The stadium is often considered one of college football's "best, loudest, and most intimidating atmospheres". Whereas many college football stadiums have artificial playing surfaces, Sanford Stadium from the outset had, and continues to have, a natural grass surface, planted with Tifton 419 Bermuda Grass.

Woodruff Hall was a 3,000 seat multi-purpose arena on the University of Georgia campus in Athens, Georgia. It opened in 1923, and was located on North Campus in the area bounded by Baldwin Street, Sanford Drive, and Hooper Street now occupied by the Psychology-Journalism Complex. The building was named for George Cecil Woodruff and his brother Harry, both of whom were football players, with the former becoming coach in the mid-1920s. The building featured a gabled wood roof, many windows, and wrap around bleachers and a balcony. It was home to the University of Georgia Bulldogs' basketball team until it was replaced when Georgia Coliseum opened in 1964. The Hall was one of the buildings that was used for the training of servicemen in the Second World War.Prior to the building of the gymnasium, the Bulldogs had played in a variety of locations, including the Athens YMCA (now the site of the Georgia Theatre) from 1905 to 1911, the then-partially-completed Memorial Hall from 1911 to 1918, and the off-campus Moss Auditorium from 1919 to 1923.

Jackson Street Cemetery, also known as Old Athens Cemetery, was the original cemetery for Athens, Georgia and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was in official use as the town cemetery from about 1810 to 1856, until Oconee Hill Cemetery opened. The last known burial was in 1898.

The Franklin House is a three-story brick historic building located at 464-480 East Broad Street, in Athens, Georgia. It was built in three phases between 1845 and 1860. Originally a mercantile building with an antebellum hotel on the upper floors, from 1865 to 1972 it was a hardware store. In the 1970s it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and in the 1980s it was restored and turned into office space and apartments.

The J.M. Tull School of Accounting is a department within the Terry College of Business at University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. The School was founded in 1977 and was one of the first five schools of accounting in the United States. In 1982, the school was named after Georgia businessman J.M Tull. In 2018, graduates from the School of Accounting ranked 1st in the nation in terms of first-time pass rates for all sections of the CPA exam.

The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences is the oldest and largest college of the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens, Georgia. Established in 1801 following the American Revolution, the college was named in honor of American Founding Father Benjamin Franklin. Today, Franklin College comprises 30 departments in five divisions: fine arts, social sciences, biological sciences, physical and mathematical sciences, and the humanities. From its founding Franklin College was the sole college of the University of Georgia, and the names of the two institutions were often used interchangeably to describe the fledgling university until 1859, when the university's colleges and schools were confederated starting with the establishment of the College of Law.Franklin College has produced distinguished alumni from a wide array of fields, including Time Inc. editor-in-chief John Huey, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Natasha Trethewey, R.E.M lead vocalist Michael Stipe, chef and television host Alton Brown, actor Wayne Knight and former Georgia Governor Roy Barnes.
