Kingston, Glasgow

Kingston Halls is a municipal structure in Paisley Road in the Kingston area of Glasgow, Scotland. The structure, which is used as the headquarters of a charity which provides accommodation and support to homeless people, is a Category B listed building.

The Kingston Bridge is a balanced cantilever dual-span ten lane road bridge made of triple-cell segmented prestressed concrete box girders crossing the River Clyde in Glasgow, Scotland. Carrying the M8 motorway through the city centre, the Kingston Bridge is one of the busiest bridges in Europe, carrying around 150,000 vehicles every day.

Shields Road subway station is a station of Glasgow Subway, serving the Pollokshields and Kingston areas of Glasgow, Scotland. Nearby is Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Scotland Street School Museum. This was one of four (now three) stations which has Park and Ride facilities. The station has been left in an industrial area by post-war reconstruction and is isolated from surrounding areas by the M8 motorway and approach roads for the Kingston Bridge. There were 460,000 passengers in the 12 months to 31 March 2005. These trips were largely generated by the adjacent 'Park & Ride' car park. The car park was rebuilt with over 800 spaces in a project that ended in September 2006. The east end of the car park is closer to the entrance of West Street subway station. The station is actually on Scotland Street, not Shields Road. There has been some consideration of changing its name. Shields Road is one of the stations mentioned in Cliff Hanley's song The Glasgow Underground.

The Cheapside Street whisky bond fire in Glasgow on 28 March 1960 was Britain's worst peacetime fire services disaster. The fire at a whisky bond killed 14 fire service and 5 salvage corps personnel. This fire was overshadowed only by a similar fire in James Watt Street (also in Glasgow) on 19 November 1968, when 22 people died.

Scotland Street School Museum is a museum of school education in Glasgow, Scotland, in the district of Kingston. It is located in a former school designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh between 1903 and 1906. The building is one of Glasgow's foremost architectural attractions. It is located next to the Shields Road subway station.

Shields Road railway station was a railway station in Pollokshields, Glasgow, Scotland. Opened in 1870, it was expanded in 1925 when the adjacent Pollokshields and Shields stations were amalgamated into it. It closed in 1966.

Anderston railway station serves Glasgow's financial district of Anderston and, across the M8 motorway, the housing schemes of both Anderston West and the Blythswood Court estate of the Anderston Centre. It is also close to both the Hilton and Marriott hotels. It is a staffed station with an island platform and most of it is underground.

Pollokshields railway station was a railway station in Pollokshields, a district of Glasgow, Scotland. The station was originally part of the Glasgow and Paisley Joint Railway. It was opened in 1840 and amalgamated into the neighbouring Shields Road station in 1925.

Our Lady and St Margaret's Primary School is a former Catholic primary school located at Stanley Street, Kinning Park, Glasgow, Scotland. In earlier years it was a junior secondary school. The annex of this school was located in the nearby Admiral Street Infants School. The school, designed by the architects Bruce & Hay, was established in 1910. Bruce & Hay were known for their work designing warehouses and offices and critics have compared the school's appearance to that of a warehouse. It was closed in 1996–97.This is a Category C(s) listed building as a good example of a school building on a palazzo scale. In addition to the school, there was a presbytery in the building that was opened in 1882. Of particular interest are the upper-storey playgrounds. The school building is still intact at present.

The Argyle Building is a mid-rise residential skyscraper in the Anderston district within the centre of Glasgow, Scotland. Started in 2005 and completed in 2008, it is among the highest buildings currently standing within the city's central area and occupies a prominent spot next to the Kingston Bridge and the M8 motorway. It can be seen prominently in the background of BBC Scotland television news bulletins.
