On 1 January 1937 the parish was abolished to form Billericay.Prior to 1066, North Benfleet was owned by King Harold, and transferred to William the Conqueror afterwards.The Church of All Saints is a mixture of 13th, 14th and 15th century construction, which was rebuilt during the 17th century. Although it had fallen into disrepair after many years of disuse, it was returned to regular use in March 2013 by the Orthodox Church, and now has weekly services. The parish of "Bowers Gifford and North Benfleet" was formed on 1 April 2010.

Pitsea Marsh is a 94.6-hectare (234-acre) Site of Special Scientific Interest in Pitsea in Essex. The southern half is the Wat Tyler Country Park, and the northern half is private land.The site has a variety of habitats, such as grassland, scrub, reedbed, fen, ponds and saltmarsh. It was reclaimed in the seventeenth century, when Pitseahall Fleet was excavated to construct sea walls. The Fleet has a large and varied bird population. Dykes and ponds support the scarce emerald damselfly, and other rare invertebrates include Roesel's bush-cricket, a harvestman Leiobunum rotundum, a hoverfly xanthandrus comtus, and a ground beetle dyschirius impunctipennis.There is access to the country park from Pitsea Hall Lane.

Pitsea railway station is on the London, Tilbury and Southend line, serving the small town of Pitsea in the borough of Basildon, Essex. It is situated at a junction where a loop via Grays re-joins the main line via Basildon. Down the main line it is 26 miles 42 chains (42.7 km) from London Fenchurch Street; via the loop it is 32 miles 37 chains (52.2 km) from Fenchurch Street. Its three-letter station code is PSE. It was originally opened in 1855 by the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway but was replaced by a new station on an adjacent site in 1888 when the line from Barking to Upminster fully opened. The station was renamed Pitsea for Vange in 1932, but reverted to the original name Pitsea in 1952.The station and all trains serving it are currently operated by c2c.

Pitsea waste management site is a large landfill site on the north side of the Thames estuary 0.7 miles (1.1 km) from Pitsea in Basildon, Essex. It is the second largest landfill site in the UK operated by Veolia Ltd. receiving 800,000 tonnes of solid waste per year, mostly from the London conurbation. The decomposition of organic matter within the landfill generates a gas rich which is rich in methane. This landfill gas is collected by a network of pipes and since 2001 has been used to power generators producing 16.2 MW of electricity. The electricity is sent into the National Grid; this amounts to about 94.4 GWh per year sufficient to power 14,300 homes.After the site closes in the early 2020s, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds plans to convert it to a nature reserve.

Wat Tyler Country Park is a country park located to the south of Pitsea, Essex within the area of Pitsea Marsh. The area was inhabited from the Bronze Age onwards and at one time was the location of the Pitsea Explosives Factory. The park is named after Wat Tyler, the leader of the Peasants' Revolt in 1381, which started in nearby Fobbing before spreading to London. The Revolt failed and Tyler was killed, but he is remembered as a people's champion against the rich and powerful. Facilities include the RSPB Wildlife Garden and Visitor Centre, and a miniature railway. Little Coopers Farmhouse that was originally located in Takeley was designated a Grade II building in 1980. In the late 1980s due to redevelopment, the whole structure was dismantled and re-built at the Wat Tyler Country Park.The park contains a miniature railway which in 2012 had four platforms and 1.2 km of track. It has not been used since before 2020.

Chalvedon School and 6th Form College was a Specialist Technology College in Pitsea, Essex, England. It was a comprehensive school educating pupils aged between 11 and 18 years of age. Chalvedon had over 1800 pupils on roll including 196 sixth formers. The school was first opened in 1966 and operated on the same site until its formal closure. Mr A S Roach became the Principal of the school in 1988. In January 2006 Chalvedon School federated with another local comprehensive school, Barstable School, to form The Federation of Chalvedon School and Sixth Form College and Barstable School. In 2009 the school formally closed with pupils transferring to the newly created Basildon Academies, who use the former site for the Upper Academy.

The Battle of Benfleet was an 894 battle between the Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons commanded by Edward the Elder and Æthelred, Lord of the Mercians, the son and son-in-law of Alfred the Great respectively. The battle was part of a campaign started by the Vikings in 892 to raid and potentially occupy lands in England, having been defeated by the armies of France. As part of this campaign the invaders were supported by those Vikings who had settled in England following an earlier invasion launched in 865. The battle was a victory for the Anglo-Saxons who successfully captured a number of women and children, as well as capturing or destroying the Viking ships. After their defeat the Vikings continued to raid England until they disbanded in 895 after being forced to abandon a series of camps. The rest of Alfred's reign was peaceful, and he was succeeded by Edward as King of Wessex in 899. In time Edward would become the ruler of Mercia, uniting the two kingdoms.
