Garfinckel's was a prominent department store chain based in Washington, D.C. that catered to a clientele of wealthy consumers. Its flagship store at 14th and F in the city's F Street shopping district is listed on the National Register. It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June 1990 and ceased operations that year.

The Westory Building is an historic structure located in Downtown Washington, D.C. It was listed on both the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites and on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. The building was designed by architect Henry L.A. Jekel and built between 1907–1908. The present structure includes an expansion of the original structure. The expansion was designed by Shalom Baranes Associates and completed in 1990. The building is now twelve-stories above ground rising to a height of 155.62 feet (47 m). It also has three-stories below ground.

It was located near the Metro Center station of the Washington Metro system. As of 2015, owner Quadrangle Development Corp. intended to raze the building and replace it with a 283,000-square-foot, 13-story building.As of 2019, a small food court with 9 vendors, branded "Eat at National Place", operates in a portion of the space, but the court closed in May 2020. A few retail shops face the street.

The National World War I Memorial is a national memorial commemorating the service rendered by members of the United States Armed Forces in World War I. The 2015 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the World War I Centennial Commission to build the memorial in Pershing Park, located at 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. The park, which has existed since 1981, also contains the John J. Pershing General of the Armies commemorative work. In January 2016, the design commission selected the submission "The Weight of Sacrifice", by a team consisting of Joseph Weishaar, Sabin Howard, Phoebe Lickwar, and GWWO Architects, as the winning design, which is expected to be completed by 2024.On April 16, 2021, the flag was raised at the memorial and President Biden spoke at a virtual ceremony opening it to the public.
