Lester River Bridge

The Lester River, is a 19.3-mile-long (31.1 km) tributary of Lake Superior, in northeastern Minnesota in the United States. It drains an area of 58 square miles (150 km2).

The Lester River Fish Hatchery was a federal fish hatchery in Duluth, Minnesota, United States. It was built at the mouth of the Lester River in the 1880s to propagate fish for the Lake Superior commercial fishery. The hatchery closed in 1946 and the facility was sold to the University of Minnesota Duluth, which used it as its Limnological Research Station. The surviving four buildings are noted for their Stick and Shingle Style architecture, forming a distinctive landmark to local residents as well as tourists heading to Superior's North Shore.In 1978 the hatchery complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places under the name US Fisheries Station, Duluth, for its state-level significance in the themes of architecture and education. It was nominated for exemplifying the Stick and Shingle styles popular in Minnesota during the 1880s and for its long association with studies conducted on Lake Superior.

Lester Park Golf Course is one of two public golf courses located in the port city of Duluth, Minnesota. The original eighteen-hole golf course was made up the north shore of Duluth, near the Lester Park River. The golf course was established in 1934. The other course, Enger Park, is located near the Duluth landmark, Enger Tower, and was established earlier than Lester in the 1920s. Lester Park is well known around Minnesota for its spectacular beauty and rich history as a golf course because a unique view of Lake Superior is available on 20 of the 27 golf holes. The original 18 holes have been redone four times since their initial design. In 1997, Paul Schintz, a former club pro from St. Paul, took over Lester Park as PGA Golf Professional. In 2003, Schintz became the Director of Golf, overseeing both Lester Park and Enger Park clubhouse operations. The golf courses were split to a 2 golf pro / 2 contract setup in 2005 with the addition of Steve Anderson to Enger Park Golf Course, with Schintz remaining at Lester Park. In 2007, the Duluth city council voted to accept a contract with Professional Golf Management, Inc. The Management company consisted of partners Schintz, as PGA Golf Professional and Jud Crist, Golf Course Superintendent. The management company now operates both facilities for the City of Duluth, overseeing clubhouse and maintenance operations. Management Inc. Lester Park's front and back nines are a full par 72 golf course and has a yardage of 6,828 yards from the hardest tees.

Lakeside – Lester Park is a neighborhood in Duluth, Minnesota, United States. London Road (MN 61), East Superior Street, and Glenwood Street serve as main routes in the community. Lester Park also refers to a large park within the neighborhood. The Lester River and Amity Creek both flow through the neighborhood. Lester Park Golf Course and Lester Park Elementary School are also located in the neighborhood. Until 2016 Lakeside was a "dry neighborhood". No alcohol was sold in store or available for purchase and restaurants. There were no laws against residents consuming alcohol in their own home or at private events. The ban was ended by popular vote in 2016.

The Mayflower was a wooden hulled scow schooner that sank on June 2, 1891, in Lake Superior near Duluth, Minnesota, United States, after capsizing with a load of sandstone blocks. In 2012 the shipwreck site was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Northland Country Club is a private country club in Duluth, Minnesota. It was established in 1899. In 1927, Northland was renovated by golf course architect Donald J. Ross. It features bent grass fairways and greens.

The 1956 U.S. Women's Open was the eleventh U.S. Women's Open, held July 26–29 at Northland Country Club in Duluth, Minnesota. It was the fourth edition conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA). Kathy Cornelius won her only major championship in an 18-hole playoff over amateur Barbara McIntire by a score of 75 to 82.Northland was designed by noted course architect Donald Ross.

Glensheen, the Historic Congdon Estate is a 20,000 square foot mansion in Duluth, Minnesota, United States, operated by the University of Minnesota Duluth as a historic house museum. Glensheen sits on 12 acres of waterfront property on Lake Superior, has 39 rooms and is built in the Jacobean architectural tradition, inspired by the Beaux-Arts styles of the era. The mansion was constructed as the family home of Chester Adgate Congdon. The building was designed by Minnesota architect Clarence H. Johnston Sr., with interiors designed by William A. French Co. and the formal terraced garden and English style landscape designed by the Charles Wellford Leavitt firm out of New York. Construction began in 1905 and completed in 1908. The home cost a total of $854,000, equivalent to more than $22 million in 2017. The home is a crowning example of design and craftmanship of the Midwestern United States in the early 20th century.

Tischer Creek is a stream in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It empties into Lake Superior in the city of Duluth on the grounds of the Glensheen Historic Estate. Its waters supply a 60,000 gallon reservoir and are used to maintain the grounds of the estate.Tischer Creek was named after Urs and Elizabeth Tischer, pioneers who settled the area in the 1850s.

The Northland Country Club and the Glensheen Historic Estate museum are both located within the neighborhood. The area is named after Chester Congdon, who donated land for its establishment in 1908.

Bridge L6113 is a historic bridge in Congdon Park in Duluth, Minnesota, United States. Built in 1925, it carries East 4th Street over Tischer Creek. Structurally it is a reinforced concrete arch bridge with a veneer of local gabbro masonry. Artistically it mixes rustic, uncoursed masonry with neoclassical details in its limestone belt courses and arch ring. Bridge L6113 was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016 for its local significance in the theme of engineering. It was nominated for its high aesthetic value of mixed architectural styles complementing its park setting.
